Any Florida homeowners here? What are you doing about insurance rates?

I’m quite looking forward to the look on their face when when wealthy red-staters who own coastal property no longer get the benefit of “Socialism“ on the rating of their federal flood insurance.

That’s what they should be building in Florida. Deep supports, the first floor or two contains nothing of importance or can be protected when the storms come around. (For example, use it as a parking garage–the cars drive off in the evacuation.)

It’s impossible to stop the water intrusion, they should be building to live with the hurricanes rather than keeping putting up the same old stuff that’s going to get smashed and drive insurance through the roof. We know how to build to basically shrug off a cat 5, all new construction there should be such buildings.

I think that was part of the impetus for the new rating plan. There was no facility in fema 1.0 to punish people who would rather have repetitive flood claims than to rebuild higher. Down here there are places where they flood every year, $500 deductible, business as usual.
