Best Radar Detector

Google maps also recently (finally!) started showing speed limits… so if you’re not paying attention but have it pulled up, it’s useful.

Just picked up two Uniden DFR7’s from BuyDig. Cheap insurance and seem to be the best detector for the buck. Instead of more than $400-700 for other detectors I got these for 1/3 the cost. From what I have read the DFR7 is one of the quietest detectors out there with the exception of the Radenso Pro M. Does not have the range of the more expensive Unidens (R3 or R7) but since it has less range it is quieter than the other Unidens. The range of the DFR7 is better than the two Escort 9500ix’s they are replacing. I have depended on those 9500ix’s for many years and have more than paid for themselves.

I get the speed limit off from my Garmin GPS. I don’t want to have to pull out and unplug my smartphone every time I enter/exit my vehicle. Using Google maps or Waze drain the battery, on my phone, and I have to plug the phone in to keep a decent charge on the phone. On a long drive I use Waze and find it very useful to warn of traffic, potholes, police and different routes than my Garmin GPS. I prefer Waze over Google Maps. Maybe because I could not get audible directions from Google Maps until I finally found the setting recently. On some trips I get the route on both my Garmin GPS and Waze. I find Waze is more aware of traffic conditions but is also more prone to direct me out of the most direct route to use expressways than my Garmin. I find it both entertaining and informative comparing the different routes.
