A great new service came out today called Movies Anywhere. It’s a collaboration between Apple Itunes, Google Play, Vudu/Ultraviolet, and Amazon that lets you share movies owned on one service, across all services. Built on the backbone that Disney Movies Anywhere has used for years that let you share Disney licenses across digital movie services.
The free movies you get for signing up are mediocre. The real deal is being able to share digital movie rights across platforms. For example, suppose you got a handful of movies on each service. Now you can combine them and pick the best one to stream from. Amazon FireSticks are cheap and effective and your iTunes movies now sync up.
It’s not all movies but it’s a lot of them. Lionsgate and MGM haven’t signed on yet but many of the studios have.
