Sams has no way of knowing if you are a current member or have been a former member in the past 6 months or not as long as the email address you use when you sign up isn’t associated with a previous membership. The promotional giftcard can be used to partially pay for another membership. With each new membership, you get a free berry sundae from the Sams foodcourt. They put way too much icecream in the sundaes, it overflows and drips everywhere right away. If you are unsatisfied with your sam’s club membership for any reason within the first year, they will refund you the full value of your membership (either $45 or $100 depending if you are regular or plus). In other words, they don’t deduct the giftcard you received from the amount they refund.
