I recently used Amex Offers $15 off $115 spent on wireless, i.e. T-Mobile. With 1% reward it’s 14% off the $115 credit to T-mobile. You can do this twice.
Could anyone with Citi Rewards+ confirm – is the 10% TYP redemption bonus per calendar year or card membership year? When is the bonus paid?
I.e., if I get Rewards+ in November and redeem 100K points in December, when can I expect to get 10K back?
Your Points Back will post to your ThankYou Member account following your next statement cycle.
As a reminder, you’ll get 10% Points Back for the first 100,000 points you redeem per year (calendar year).
The title was changed from Single Cause … to Metabolic Cancer to be more descriptive, and because Single Cure was not technically accurate.
As to what card I use for medical payments, it is currently the BOA Travel. Once I get a my new BOA Unlimited Cash Back card (converted from Better Balance) I will use that card because the 1.5% with Preferred Status (over $100,000 relationship with Merrill) becomes 2.625%. This is true for both cards, but the travel one requires redeeming against travel which is more work, and I may not have enough expenditures labeled travel (even though restaurants are included as travel).
There is an interesting card that gives points on rent payments, the Wells Fargo Bilt card. I will not apply since I do not pay rent, but for many this could be valuable. Even if the landlord does not accept credit cards, they apparently have a way for you to use the card so that they then issue a check, earning points. It is not clear just how useful the points are but they say they can be used against your next month’s rent and transferred to partners.
One joker I see is that you must use the card at least 5 times each month to earn the points.
They also offer double points on purchases made the first of each month, and several other benefits, such as benefits from using Lyft. This looks like this card could be valuable to renters, and those that work to optimize benefits from cards. For instance, possibly buying gift cards on the first of the month might make it possible to earn 6% on dining for the rest of the month.
A review is at Guide To Bilt Rewards Mastercard | Bankrate.
If anyone has any experience with this card, I would appreciate hearing of it, since I have adult sons who do rent.
The big question is, what counts as a valid “landlord”? I’ll let a pair of your old shoes live in a corner of my closet for a hefty monthly fee “fair rent”.
And you can have one of the 87,000 new IRS gunslingers kicking in your door at 5 a.m. to put their boots on your neck until you explain why this new source of income has not been reported on your T4.
What’s the best and easiest 2% no-fee card? I have the Alliant 2.5% card, but because $1K is required to be kept in checking, that’s about $48.50 in lost interest (Primis savings 5.10%)
The fidelity cash back card pays 2% with no fees. You should have an account there since they pay the cash back to your account, but there’s no minimum balance afaik.
Citi Double Cash Back card pays unlimited 2% on everything with no fees distributed in two stages:
1% back for every dollar spent
1% back for every dollar paid off
Redemption options: Statement credit, bank account deposit or a check. You can also transfer your points to a handful of partners, including JetBlue, Wyndham, etc.
Hopefully you’ve calculated the break-even spend required to justify the “annual fee”. This was discussed in the Alliant thread a few times.
Citi Double Cash Card is my favorite. I’m a long time customer and just about all expenses go onto my Citi credit card. (of course completely paid off each month)
Many options for payouts, but of lately it’s cash check for me. At the moment a $500 check is coming in the mail.
At the moment the extra 0.5% leaves me slightly ahead of a 2% card.
When do you get the cash back and how long does it take? Alliant’s is available with the statement and a deposit to checking takes two days.
The ThankYou points post with the statement, just like Alliant. But the points are awarded in two stages, as turtlebug showed. If you only make purchases during the cycle and no payments, then the statement will only have 1% rewards for the purchases (stage 1). If you pay off the balance in the next statement cycle, then that statement will reflect the other 1% in rewards (stage 2). You can also charge and pre-pay all in the same cycle to get the full 2% reward on a single statement.
The only trick to remember with this card is that if you redeem TY points for statement credits, then that redemption does not count as a “payment” and does not earn the 1% reward for stage 2, which means the rewards become 1.99% instead of the full 2%. Redeem for anything else to get the full 2%.
Do the rewards show up immediately after the statement date? Can you get them i n a day or two?
Discover Miles 1.5% card with a first year match (making it a 3% card). After a year, wash and repeat.
They show up immediately with the statement (i.e., if your statement closes on the 10th, the rewards will show up on the 11th), but how fast you can get them depends on the redemption method. You can redeem for electronic gift cards instantly. I don’t remember how long statement credits or electronic deposits take, but I’d guess a day or two. Checks and physical GCs are mailed out within a few days usually. Don’t know about travel partner transfers.
I’m pretty sure, or at least pretty sure it used to be this way, that redeeming rewards as a statement credit would prevent you from earning the second 1% on that amount. Meaning, the statement credit is not considered a “payment” that earns that half of the reward.
