CD Discussion Thread

Santander is a very old account that I used many years ago. I don’t think  I can even find it in my “cast away” accounts. Nice reminder.

Hi everybody. Patti I know you like CD’s but I do banks with 5%+.and no CD for me. Republic bank of Chicago is small family owned at 5.2% also NYC on LI (I used to live near them years ago in Westbury LI.) they owned the Westbury Music Fair now called NYCB Theater. They have a 5% savings which I have.
The best thing is their brand new checking acct with a 350.00 bonus with 1 500.00 DD. Wife and I opened last week but many hassles to get it open
So we should get 2 350.00 bonuses. Just keep 500.00 in the acct. Hope this helps somebody. Took about 3 hours to get 2 accts setup online and on phone. High school kid must have done the application page.

Meant NYCB not NYC.

Link to the new checking account with $350 bonus?

Checking Bonus Offer | NYCB (mynycb.com) hope this works. remeber, its a tedious process due to having a web site by high school kids… I think… But I have used this bank for over 25 years for high-rate cd’s back 2 years ago, and regular saving at 4-4.8%. Quite good at what they do, but terrible at opening accts online. My dad even had a mtg with them from 30 years ago! latest is that they sent a link to sign a sig. card. link does not work. I emailed them and asked if I could print and snail mail. They said “great” and i printed the sig card and mailed it. Wife and i opened 2 sep checking accts, now we have to see about what counts as a DD. Im trying Schwab Money Link and wife is trying Alliant. Ill keep you informed.

NYCB, what do they offer besides the bonus deals? Those bonuses would be nice  as a plus for opening an account at this new bank.

But I don’t think  I’m in need for another bank. lol

they offer nothing except the bonus. I don’t know if they consider Schwab Moneylink as a DD. My wife and I did slightly over 500.00 “DD” and it codes as “Moneylink transfer deposit” on both accts. Wife also xferred 502.00 from Alliant and it coded as ACU transfer. Have to wait 90 days to find out. Doctor of credit has no data on these.

Pelican State Credit Union has a 12-month CD at 5.64% APY and a 24-month CD at 5.90% APY. The 24 month is especially notable. Membership is nationwide if you join partner associations for as little as $5.

More info here: https://www.depositaccounts.com/banks/pelican-state-credit-union/offers/
(read the comments at the bottom for annoyances)

Connexus has a 12 month CD at 5.61% APY (5.76% Jumbo) and 24 month at 5.01% APY (5.26 jumbo).

I think a lot of people here already have memberships in Connexus. I may do a 12 month myself.

About all you can do is call and start the process, and see what your proceeds will be.

Being almost a year into my new 5-year CDs, I’m considering trying another early withdrawal, to then open a new 4-year 5.12% CD. Same remaining term, but another .3% rate bump.

Thx for reply.
Did they tell you your proceeds before it was completed so that you had a chance not to proceed? I think (I may be wrong) you posted earlier that you had already wihdawnyour interest (which is always penalty free to do)?

I have never done an early withdrawal from my CD’s. But I’m seriously considering doing it. Checking out some older CD’s I have, with a 2/3% rating is pretty pathetic. Laziness on my part…

I’m reading on Ken’s site this morning and I noticed kaight/shinobi writing about some old 6/7% CD’s that he has. Interesting .

Doubling the rate being earned can negate some pretty hefty early withdrawal penalties.

Miss that @shinobi :disappointed_relieved:

A lot of recent posts have been mostly focused on shorter term 9-18 month CD terms. Is GTE still the leader at 5.12% for longer (4+year) term offers? I’m getting itchy with some 5% liquid funds and am thinking about locking in a long term rate on another tranche. Even though my gut is saying to wait for a unicorn 6% long term rate - I think the odds of eventually seeing one (even for just a short time) is greater than the odds that liquid rates will drop back below 5% any time soon.

American 1 Credit Union is offering a 6.00% APY rate on a 12-month CD. Minimum $1,000 to open. Seems like this is available nationwide. There is a hard pull to join the credit union and there is a $3-$8 cost…

According to Looney Tunes on doctorofcredit, per customer service: “In order to become a member, you will need to fill out an application and undergo a hard credit pull (verification). You must be a United States resident with a valid Social Security Number and Government-issued photo ID. There is a start-up cost of eight dollars. $3.00 is for the Co-Op membership fee, and $5 will be deposited into your savings account to keep the membership open.”
