Does the coronavirus merit investment, or personal, concern or consideration?

I’d also assume that if you’re so sick you need dialysis, it’s likely Covid-19 would be pretty serious for you.

In any case, while Trump has done a mediocre to poor job during the pandemic, it’s evident most MSM are pouncing at every opportunity to highlight his shortcomings. Conveniently, no real comparison with the situation in many other Western countries like France, Spain or UK.

This is a good overview of the current state of the global infection, treatment advances, vaccines, and improving outcomes. A bit long but well done.

And the sheep are less scared. :upside_down_face:

Lots of nice charts for various types of economic activity recovering (or not) across different countries - jobs, dining, movie going, air travel, industrial pollution, etc.

a case controlled study by the CDC - symptomatic people were divided based on PCR test outcomes (+/-) into case/control groups, and asked about their activities and exposures in the preceding two weeks. The chart below shows how much more likely you are to get a positive result if you did the activities listed, where 1 = just as likely, 2 = twice as likely etc.

Restaurant dining was correlated with positive test outcomes (2-3x more likely), and bars gyms and churches look risky too, if not meeting the 95% significance standard. The gray odds ratio bars are for the sample subset with no “close contact exposure” which makes them perhaps a better indicator of risky behavior. This is because, as expected, close contact exposure was much higher in positive cases meaning they likely got sick from that rather than their lifestyle activities. Mask wearing adherence was analyzed, but not featured prominently in the study for some reason, and showed no effect.

Fauci interview. highlights - less concern about outdoor well-ventilated situations, surface transmissions; primarily person-to-person.

Might be worth making sure you’re getting enough zinc. You don’t want to end up like the people in this study, who had either low-end-of-normal or very lower zinc levels respectively. On average, the former ended up in the hospital for a bad case a covid and the latter ended up dead.

Researchers then examined the zinc levels recorded in 249 of the patients, including 21 who succumbed to the illness. And they found a stark difference between them: Survivors had 63.1 micrograms per deciliter of zinc in their blood, while those who died from COVID had only 43.

Zinc, long suspected to be helpful against covid for its antiviral and immunomodulatory effects (especially in conjunction with HCQ), has been correlated to better covid outcomes. Average zinc blood levels are around 65-70 mcg/dL, and the recommended range is something like 65-110 with the higher end of this being thought to be healthier.

I can’t watch a football game in person due to Covid restrictions. But Denver was able to let an entire town attend their game Sunday?

Link to the very unfair attendance policy

And they’re not wearing real masks either! WTH!

It may be a result of the limitation in settings where it’d make a difference. At gym, restaurant, bar, you’d have to have your mask off for a while so it’d make sense that mask wearing general adherence would have little impact. Same for home settings.

The other reason may be that wearing a mask is more effective at preventing you from infecting others compared to providing you with protection against infection from others.

Those creators, Trey Parker & Matt Stone, stole the show at Mile High Stadium. Yesterdays game had a jam packed arena & I loved the appearance.

Way to go gang! :relaxed:

FYI, Google Maps has an overlay (layer) that shows new covid19 cases in past 7 days by areas (at multiple zoom levels) and increasing/ decreasing trend.

I don’t know when they added it, but just noticed it.

"The CDC report confirmed what many public health experts have long warned: Infections in young adults lead to infections in older people who are much more likely to be hospitalized and die from COVID-19 than people in their 20s and 30s.

In Southern states over the summer, rising infections among young adults preceded increases in COVID-19 — by four to 15 days — among people over the age of 60."

Another reason to check out bing maps.

Leave it to NPR to state the obvious. Why didn’t they say and the reverse is true. I guess they’ll wait a week and spend another million of public dollars to explain that part of the story. :frowning:

Those dollars are not as public as you think.

No kidding. They have tons of ads during their broadcasts. Was listening to Planet Money podcasts and they have 3 ads in a 10 minutes segment. :unamused:
