There’s a story in the Chinese media about this woman that runs back to China when she knew she was infected since she don’t have health insurance.
Is this a preview of the green new deal?
For being protected from the virus.
Have you met my wife?
She’s already taken her temperature twice today. ![]()
need help?
It’s very diifficult to get tested. I’ve been trying for over a week, Called doctors who refer me to Health Departments who refer me back to doctors, who say they haven’t been told how to get it done and the labs they normally use don’t do it.
Can you though? I thought you could get reinfected by this thing rather quickly?
This looks to me more and more like all this lack of preparation, testing, healthcare system coverage is all a clever plan by the government to solve our Medicare and Medicaid deficit issues naturally… Not really the solution most of us would have picked though.
I’m not an expert on this virus nor an immunology researcher, but from everything I’ve read most scientists expect your antibodies to protect you from possible reinfection once you’ve had the virus once. That’s pretty much how it works with nearly all viruses, and the reason you get “the cold” or “flu” again a year or two later is that the old virus (which you are still immune to) has mutated enough that your body’s defenses don’t recognize it so you have to fight that battle again.
The thing about testing for this virus, regardless where in the world it is done:
It’s a snapshot . . . a moment in time. You could submit to the test this morning and be swabbed, leave the test site, go elsewhere and be exposed and infected, and then several days later receive your test outcome saying you are in the clear.
An interesting wrinkle in the Canadian news last evening. I monitor events there:
BC is nearly apoplectic because Trudeau’s border closure did not include the USA. People in BC are a little kooky anyway. But have to say I agree with them on this one.
People there looking south, and not very far south at all, and noting our coronavirus hot spot in the State of Washington. The fear is some smart Washington citizens will head north as an escape move, and also to take advantage of Canada’s free health care.
BC is up in arms based on report I heard. They are pissed, and they want that border closed pronto.
Coronavirus: Man in Japan tests positive again after recovering from illness
There are some sporadic report of that. It is still CONSISTENT with what we do know, that some immune compromised people might be reinfected again. Yes, we need to be extra careful but it’s too soon to draw any conclusions.
It is not free.
If you do not have a provincial health card, you pay an “out of country” rate at the time of service. Those rates are significantly more than their resident rates.
I don’t know the exact percentage, but the U.S. is Canada’s largest trading partner - by far. With just-in-time logistics being all the rage, I wonder how long the country’s food supply would last, particularly fresh food. If the U.S. / Canadian border were closed, Canadians might be eating fish, potatoes, and maple syrup pretty soon. During the summer, and early fall, they have a lot of home-grown food, but right now, the ground may still be frozen. ![]()
Lets not tempt fate.
Nope
The population density of Italy is 532 popn/sq mi
We have several states higher. New Jersey is over 1000
The vast majority of Americans and Italians live in densely populated cities. We’re not going to fare better than Italy just because of the vast empty areas of the US which don’t matter.
Our geography may change how “lockdown” or quarantine works.
Also, the population density of South Korea is 1300
compare S. Korea & Italy in the pandemic
If you’re being tested and awaiting results then you should be in quarantine at that time that you’re waiting test results and not running around getting infected.
Your scenario could happen if if maybe your house has residual virus but the risks are low and you shouldn’t be exposing yourself to the virus while waiting results.
Nope. To be like Italy, we’d have to have a population of about 1.5 billion, I think.
Oh, and speak Italian. ![]()
Korea got extensive testing to pinpoint the extend of the outbreak, yes, TESTING! TESTING!
Italy also got a lot of older people.
So what you’re saying is that once tested you should remain in quarantine indefinitely? Because a negative test result doesnt immunize you from “running around getting infected” regardless.
