Does the coronavirus merit investment, or personal, concern or consideration?

Would it not be closer to $200B per $1000 check sent to the 200+ million adult Americans? Even if they have income tax to claw back some of it, considering 45% of Americans pay no income tax, it’s still sounds like more than $1B.

But I’m with you on fiscal policy disappointment. All the hope to return to more hawkish fiscal policy after the Obama years evaporated instantly in favor of expediency and complacency this cycle.

Solution: Pretend the previous president is still in office. I suspect you’ll see a lot more bright spots. :grinning:

Americans? Who said anything about that? There was an amendment to require a person have a SS number in order to become eligible for the payment. Guess what happened to that amendment.

No, it’s free money for EVERYONE!! It’ll be MS-13 members in one line, everyone else in the other line. Nobody wants to go near those people. OK, maybe they will be able to convince Nancy Pelosi to line up with them for the coronavirus money . . . she lines up with them for everything else.

That’s crazy. We’d still likely be in a similarly bleak situation.

If not as much sluggish response, we’d be in a slightly less terrible situation or could have avoided it getting to this point, but I have no way of knowing that. Also I voted against the previous president, so…

In other news, one way to deal with it since we didn’t bother taking it seriously earlier (smaller numbers of maintenance tests, contact tracing, tests/ quarantines etc):

Now we just need to magically produce billions of tests and it’s all over in a couple weeks.

Either way, even if it were only adult citizens, it’d be a ton more added to the deficit than a mere $1B. And it just seems to indiscriminately add to the deficit.

Take retirees who were not working before. What loss of paycheck can they claim due to COVID-19? Same with my college kid who did not have to work to pay her college tuition+room&board and was not working currently. I wish it was targeted to people who were actually experiencing a loss of income, not a blanket allowance using yet again cash we don’t have.

Granted it’s a bit better targeted than the payroll tax holiday but that’s a really low bar. I really pray this does not turn into a monthly handout to leeches, aka universal basic income.

But maybe it’ll restart the discussion on federally-mandated paid leave in this country. Because I figure it’d come in handy just about now if we had some form of it like just about every civilized country around the world.

In that case, do what I did - build a panic room.

This is an awfully hard time for me financially.

Last month I was unable to pay the bills to my exorcist and as a consequence I have been repossessed.

You are confined at home but running short on provisions and need to visit a grocery store. Is there a “best time” to do so?

This article relates transmissivity of the virus to temperature and humidity. For me, all other things being equal, I’ll be doing my store trading on warm, rainy days. A few drops of rain never harmed anyone:

Study: High temperature and humidity might help

It appears global warming is once again working to our advantage in the instance of this ongoing pandemic. This is something, given the immediate threat of death, for which we all should be most appreciative and grateful.

Even though we cant drive anywhere, everyone should start up their cars and let them idle every day. Do your part to help save the planet!

Your point is very well taken.

Indeed current restrictions on our activities, because of the pandemic, might for certain contribute to global cooling. This is the antithesis of what is best at this point. We don’t benefit from cooler and dryer. We want warmer and wetter to help fight this coronavirus.

Ha, but there’s a good idea in the joke. I’m moving a battery tender from car to car each day. If you don’t have one, you actually might want to run the car from time to time. Or get a battery tender from Amazon.

Global warming has been working to our advantage since the Ice Age.

Anyone here know of people you know (1 or 2 degree of separation) that got hit with the virus?

One of our work site got one person sick with “flu like” symptom. Of course, there’s not enough test kit to find out.

I’m at home now, no fever*(maybe 1 degree over normal, 98.6-99, monitoring through day. My temp is normally a little lower, usually around 97.). Mainly cough and noise when clearing throat, feel congested, some throat, sore, very tired, etc. I didn’t call in for a virtual visit. I am assuming normal flu or sinus, although weirdly it seems like my sinuses aren’t congested or completely blocked like they usually are. I just feel congested but no runny nose or blockage, is weird. Got onto pseudoephedrine quickly to try to head it off, but might try skipping that and see where I am. So far this season (start last winter) I have gotten off very lightly this year as opposed to most years on sinus issues, although last summer was a killer.

Hopefully clears up in a couple days. Still a juggle to not overreact and at the same time manage to be taken seriously for calling out sick. They explicitly don’t want you to come in sick (always), but on the other hand normally do…

Guy I know in FL got it, starting with his kid and then both parents. He’s not in the stats since no testing was available, but it had all the right symptoms and sucked a lot for him for a few days. He’s almost better now, no hospitalization for any of them so far.

So what’s this mean? There’s some that are common but not required (I see fever occurs ~88% on one site, coughing next most common, sore throat uncommon but happens, soreness, etc.). Only non-cold-symptom I see listed is “shortness of breath” and of course pneumonia and other lung stuff that are under the “serious” signs. Maybe i’m looking in the wrong places.

High fever, dry cough, body aches, no runny nose/congestion.
