Does the coronavirus merit investment, or personal, concern or consideration?

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly, they only indicate the amplification that the state lab uses, which is 37. They also don’t require any lab, including the state lab, to tell the doctor what cycle showed a positive result. :slightly_frowning_face:

Although this info helps, it probably won’t alleviate her concerns for the next two days before her test, and the following 3 - 4 days for the results. I suspect that she is more liable to get sick from worrying than the flu.

ETA: If my feeble brain can grasp a technical doc, it looks like LabCorp is at 40.

Chinese vaccine is so good the leadership there ordered 100M doses of the PFE one. I bet those go to the important people.

Impossible! The CCP leaders are probably sacrificing themselves, going for the PFE vaccine so that their own Chinese product can be redirected to poorer countries. They’re the incarnation of Mother Theresa, I tell you.

Plus i thought they’d stamped out that US military virus through their dedicated population and safety measures. The only articles they run on the virus are how a few cases show up from foreigners traveling inbound.

I also saw the WHO would be investigating the origin of the virus in Wuhan in January… 2021. Timeliness not exactly one of their priorities.

In better news, US rapid home testing kits get their first approval / EUA so they can be sold to consumers.

Does anyone on earth (other then Trump and his fanatic followers) think crippling the CDC in the midst of a pandemic is a good idea?

https://news.yahoo.com/hand-grasping-trump-appointees-describe-133636121.html

“,what they witnessed during the coronavirus pandemic this year in the CDC’s leadership suite on the 12-floor headquarters here shook them: Washington’s dismissal of science, the White House’s slow suffocation of the agency’s voice, the meddling in its messages and the siphoning of its budget.”

“Last week, the editor-in-chief of the CDC’s flagship weekly disease outbreak reports — once considered untouchable — told House Democrats investigating political interference in the agency’s work that she was ordered to destroy an email showing Trump appointees attempting to meddle with their publication.”

The White House insisted on reviewing — and often softening — the CDC’s closely guarded coronavirus guidance documents…

“One of Campbell’s responsibilities was helping clear the agency’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports, a widely followed and otherwise apolitical guide on infectious disease renowned in the medical community. Over the summer, political appointees at the health department repeatedly asked CDC officials to revise, delay and even scuttle drafts they thought could be viewed, by implication, as criticism of President Donald Trump.”

“Every time that the science clashed with the messaging, messaging won,” McGowan said.

Episodes of meddling sometimes turned absurd, they said. In the spring, the CDC published an app that allowed Americans to screen themselves for symptoms of COVID-19. But the Trump administration decided to develop a similar tool with Apple. White House officials then demanded that the CDC wipe its app off its website, McGowan said."

The funding the CDC did receive this year was cannibalized. Redfield told lawmakers that $300 million was steered from the CDC’s budget to a vaccine public relations campaign that recently collapsed under scrutiny from reporters and lawmakers"

This is like treason by Trump. The Number One job of the President is to protect the American people. He has not only failed, he is actually working to harm and kill Americans.

We don’t need an impeachment. We need a trial for treason. Or, at the very least, conspiracy to harm and assault Americans with an intentionally destructive attack on the institutions that help Americans, that defend Americans against disease.

Well, herd immunity is in fact the only endgame. Be it from natural infections or artificial infections via vaccine. And some of these vaccines seem to have “side effects” pretty similar to the mild symptoms most would expect from becoming infected.

It gets real tiresome to keep hearing the implication that an infection equates to slaughtering people.

Definitely. People are tired of covid. Covid covid covid covid. That’s all anyone talks about! No one wants to hear about it.

No harm in hiding information until after the election.
" Clyburn said that the documents — which the Trump administration only released to his subcommittee after the election, more than two months after his probe began — underscore why HHS must cooperate with his investigation and that CDC Director Redfield must appear for an interview about an email that he allegedly told staff to delete. Otherwise, “I will be forced to start issuing subpoenas,” Clyburn said."

And No harm in making our public institutions less effective during a pandemic.

"McGowan, the former CDC chief of staff, said that Alexander was effective at delaying the famed Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports and watering down guidance that came from his agency.

“He absolutely put pressure on the CDC on different guidance documents, on MMWRs,” McGowan said. “He wanted to change MMWRs that were already posted, which is just outrageous.”

While McGowan said that even though agency officials fended off Alexander’s demands to edit the morbidity and mortality reports, “it’s the type of political meddling that delayed guidance, delayed MMWRs from getting them out as quickly as possible to be effective,” McGowan added."

I missed this a couple days ago. Looks like at least by end of Q2 (meaning maybe administered/effective by August), we’re at 150M people potentially vaccinated between moderna and pfizer/biontech if they both make their deliveries on time. Less than 50%, but there’s still hoping the AZ vaccine can be more effective at a different dosage or that some of the other candidates pan out.

Town in Brazil where they are using HCQ and ivermectin early for covid cases.

The article tells you how bad it is, how unproven everything is, and doesn’t like the guy, but hey, look at the results. One of these death counts is not like the others.

Does anyone have a clue how these at-home tests work? Looks like magic a miracle!

The vaccine is not an infection – it does not contain the virus. It’s more like a simulation. And the vaccines aren’t supposed to (and haven’t yet) result in people dying or requiring an ICU bed for 2-4 weeks.

So yes, compared to mass vaccinations, herd immunity via viral infection, which is what Trump and a few of his lackeys were implying, is very much slaughter.

Yeah OK. Both NY and CA have ~4340 cases per 100K, NY had 185 deaths, while CA had 55 (per 100K). I’m pretty sure CA isn’t treating its residents any different than NY. It just didn’t get overloaded early on. Has the article accounted for such variables?

Not sure which stats you’re citing, but I’m seeing over 3x the mortality rate per capita in NY vs CA. NY had a disastrous nursing home policy that killed tons of elderly.

Regarding ivermectin, see the studies cited in my previous post as well as this one from the summer describing the proposed biological mechanism.

As for why the US hasn’t done any trials (unlike several third world countries), well, like HCQ, the fact that ivermectin is generic and there’s no money in it might have something to do with that.

Here’s another site that profiles… under appreciated covid treatments, all of which suffer from the lack of large marketing departments.

You can see all the studies and the relative risk / benefit for that treatment in the given trials as well as links to the results. Zinc, Vit D, and HCQ are similarly profiled.

I took the numbers from the same site you just linked (worldometers) and converted them to PER 100K to make them comparable to the stats in the Brazil article you linked earlier. And yes, 185 is 3.36x more than 55. The number of confirmed cases per capita are the same in both states.

Ok, I see. I thought you were comparing NY vs CA rather than these vs the Brazilian numbers and got confused by the units.

Nice graphs on US excess deaths split up vs natural vs other causes, flu, age profile, etc. really shows a good perspective on the pandemic impacts.
