Hmmmm. Seems like anyone willing to work can find a decent job.

I’d say property and spending taxes are better. They are much more difficult to avoid, unlike income.

CA isn’t a bad place to retire, particularly if there isn’t much taxable income.

Property taxes can be manipulated through fraud, see ex POTUS.

Middle class gets hit with full (or excessive, because it rarely makes sense for them to expend opportunity costs past the easy/ voluntary protest stages for less than multimillion dollar properties) property taxes while rich can optionally falsify records to lower theirs.
