Social credit in America - Politics invades personal finance

Yeah, it’s an opinion, and opinions can change with new / better information

SpaceX engineers? Who all moved to Texas from Southern California?

While that may work for some Floridians, I can’t imagine all of Miami or any high rises on stilts. Must also keep in mind that global warming may cause wind speeds for hurricanes and tornadoes to increase, so primitive building codes may no longer be sufficient. Might have to use the Venetian model, and I’m not sure if it’s fiscally sustainable.

The change is notable. And so what if people know what 4chan is? The effect exists anyway.

Yeah, you need to beef up for the wind and elevate things or the land will in time be uninhabitable. As it is cities are building 10-figure storm surge defenses and that only works when the high waters are infrequent enough you can afford to cut off the city during the storm. Such defenses will be non-viable once such waters are more common.

Stop subsidized flood insurance and people won’t be able to rebuild. Let the market sort it out without taxpayer subsidies for building in dumb places.

The NFIP provides most of the nation’s flood insurance, covering nearly 5 million properties. It also has historically charged discounted premiums that do not reflect the actual flood risk of properties. The discounted rates have been criticized for encouraging development in flood-prone areas and discouraging property owners from undertaking flood protection.

Here’s a similar case of social media censorship coordinated by the Feds, and the judge not only didn’t toss it, they ordered Fauci, etc to testify. So the evidence is good enough and we’ll see what comes out.

The complaint in Schmitt v. Biden , No. 3:22-cv-1213 in the District Court for the Western District of Louisiana alleges that Facebook and Twitter coordinated their censorship programs with government officials. I have previously written about what some of us view as a “censorship by surrogate” system used on social media. This discovery could help understand some of those back channel contacts.

Judge Terry Doughty granted a request to require Fauci, former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and others to sit under oath for up to seven hours each.

Once again, you’re assuming because it’s in court it has a solid basis.

No, I am assuming that the judge has already reviewed the evidence presented and determined it’s sufficient to proceed to testimony.

Here’s another case that Twitter settled (instead of losing) after discovery produced emails that proved they had been censoring people for no good reason except that the feds want them to.

No, judges don’t review the evidence before trial. All that’s needed is for the attorney to state they can prove X. They can be sanctioned if it turns out they knew they couldn’t hope to prove X.

Speaking of Twitter, we already have a fact check of Biden, so the tables are turning (and he needs a lot more, since he forgets and makes up stuff so often). This is about his “inflation reduction act” claims.

There’s definitely a new chief Twit in town

We’ll find out whether that’s true or not…

Not from NBC news you won’t.

I wonder if the moderators will put the chief Twit’s account into Twitter jail? LOL

Certainly more credible than a conspiranoic website.

This is, IMO, the first of many click-and-tweet baits from Elon. The current true financial value of Twitter is much lower than what he had to fork out. Same can be said of other social media companies: their current value is much lower than what it was half-year ago. Time to stir controversy, stimulate tweet wars, and hopefully increase traffic/bring back advertisers.

Yes, Musk is a master of generating publicity. And annoying the left. LOL

The strategy might backfire as soon as people from either or both sides realize the real purpose is his own financial gain.

Chief Twit trolls NYT. It’s been a while since we lost the Troll in Chief, good to have someone taking up the mantle.

He was great in response to these two jokers impersonating recently fired Twitter workers.

Pranksters posing as laid-off Twitter employees trick media outlets
One of the pranksters said his name was “Rahul Ligma” — a reference to a popular internet meme — and held a copy of Michelle Obama’s book “Becoming” aloft while speaking to reporters…
” Listen, I gotta touch base with my husband and wife. I gotta get out of here, alright."

If you can read his mind, so can I. I think he’s doing it to show that Twitter is a free speech site. And he’s also having a hell of a lot of fun.

There’s nothing new in this article. But there are quite a few quotes - am I the only one who sees a pretty distinct contrast in the nature of the quotes, depending on the perspective being given? The anti-Musk quotes can all be summerized as “We are afraid we will see things we dont like!”, while the pro-Musk quotes are all about the end of preferential treatment, not pushing agendas, and encouraging actual discussion and debate of all opinions. It continues to be pretty sad when in a conflict between “All opinions are welcome” and “My opinion should be the only one allowed”, the “all opinions welcome” side is the one being labeled as the radical intollerant hate-filled facists trying to silence free speech.

They just know that engaging in an actual debate where they arent given huge handicaps by handcuffing opposing viewpoints is not going to go well for them. So it’s more temper tantrums about how it’s so unfair they arent getting their way, rather than making any effort to convince others that their way is best.

I’m pretty sure everyone realizes this on all sides. Best case it’s financial success by accomodating the actual national viewpoints on issues rather than minority partisan political agendas, worst case it’s success by accomodating those who actually pay the bills rather than the entitled idealistic freeloaders.

Liberals are afraid of his potential financial gain because it would only show that taking away their bully pulpet really was good for the country as a whole.
