I dunno about Nevada. But what Michigan is doing is outrageous, an obvious effort to encourage voter fraud. And Michigan is a must win for Trump.

Compare with Pennsylvania, another must win state for POTUS. Pennsylvania permits voting by mail, which is fine. But voters there must request a mail-in ballot be sent to them. This is how mail-in voting should be done.

In Michigan the Democrats there are creating and mailing out over a million UN-requested ballots! Only God knows who will end up executing those ballots; many likely will be sold to Democrat operatives. Trump has no chance for victory under those circumstances . . . . which is the Democrat plan all along.

I hope Trump can put a stop to this Michigan outrage. If not, Biden is very likely to win in November.

Factually false. But, of course, facts rarely matter now. What matters is the narrative from sources of information people trust. In this case, tweeter-in-chief and (I’m assuming) various talking heads on TV.

I did come across this. It is for Nevada:

“All active registered voters in Nevada will be mailed an absentee ballot for the primary election. No action or steps, such as submitting an absentee ballot request application, will be required by individual voters in order to receive a ballot in the mail,” according to the Secretary of State.

I have no huge problem with that for a primary election, though it is generally wrong, however if both parties are agreeable . . well . . so be it.

But in a general election doing this, sending out UN-requested ballots, would be completely unacceptable and a bald-faced invitation for fraud.

I have a disagreement with Trump regarding mail-in voting, which is my own preferred voting method. I would not be caught dead in a crowded polling place . . . or, rather . . . visiting such a venue could certainly result in my death. :wink: So it’s mail-in voting for me. At the same time, however:

I support without reservation the need for each voter to request a mail-in ballot. Where I live this can be accomplished online, which is fine and easier for the voter. But UN-requested ballots should never be sent out.

It’s only fine and easy if you have internet access at home and know where to go to request a ballot.

I’ve voted by mail for several years. My polling place is quite a distance drive, as I live in the country. The ballet comes by mail without request. Automatic, because of years, I probably originally requested.

Interesting, pattyb53. If they are sending out unrequested ballots it could explain why CA is so overwhelmingly Democrat.

No question this COVID-19 virus is changing the way things traditionally have been done . . . . and most often sadly for valid reason. But if millions of unrequested ballots start going out nationwide, it could spell the end of the Republican party.

I mean, people move, people pass on, and so forth. Any place ballots are being sent in absence of a current, recent, request from a live qualified voter at a valid address, those ballots could easily end up being cast by folks with fraud on their minds.

Your post has helped me to understand better a possible basis for Trump’s disagreement with vote-by-mail. If not carried forth carefully and with due diligence, I agree with Trump that chance for fraud is much enhanced.

As I wrote above, where I live we must apply for our mail-in ballots each time. That is the most fraud resistant way of doing things.

In the past, CA allowed permanent vote-by-mail registration (no excuse needed). They’d mail you the ballot, and IIRC you could lose the vote-by-mail status and would have to re-register if you failed to return your ballot for two consecutive elections. This year CA switched all registrations to vote-by-mail. You get the ballot in the mail and can mail it back or drop it off at a ballot box at any polling place. In-person voting is only necessary if you registered too late or made a mistake on the ballot and it’s too late to get a clean one by mail.

You’re right shinobi. I was born & bred in CA, & I hate the fact that we are mostly Democrats. I remember the Thanksgiving after Trump was elected. My daughter-in-law & her friends are democrats. We go around the dinner table & say what we a thankful for. I said, I’m thankful for our new president. No boos but I had a big laugh.

600 American doctors have signed a letter to Trump. Some details follow:

The doctors urged the president to end the nationwide lockdowns as there were “exponentially growing health consequences.”

“We are alarmed at what appears to be the lack of consideration for the future health of our patients”, the letter stated. “The downstream health effects are being massively under-estimated and under-reported. This is an order of magnitude error.”

Patients were reportedly not getting their routine checkups that could help with early detection of diseases like cancer and heart problems. The lockdown was also leading to an increase in substance or alcohol abuse, which could further compromise the body’s immune system.

Pregnant women who needed crucial prenatal care so their babies can develop well were also unable to visit their obstetricians regularly. However, some healthcare providers have shifted to telemedicine to support their patients while minimizing in-person contact.

“The millions of casualties of a continued shutdown will be hiding in plain sight,” the letter continued. “But they will be called alcoholism, homelessness, suicide, heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure. In youths, it will be called financial instability, unemployment, despair, drug addiction, unplanned pregnancies, poverty, and abuse.”

My own preference for Trump over any Democrat in a binary choice situation does not mean I’m without criticism of Trump. As a NYC denizen, Trump lacks the inherent distrust of Democrats possessed by conservative Americans. As such, three weeks ago, Trump brutally condemned Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp when he opened up his state. It has now become clear Kemp was right while Trump and his liberal buddies were full of s**t. Yet I’ve not heard Trump apologize or admit his error. Has he at least learned his lesson, never to go with the liberals? One can only hope, but I doubt it. Those inbred NYC instincts die hard. It’s a pity.

Oh, and by the way, do not look for reports of that shocking letter to be featured on the news by propagandists in the American mainstream media, a wholly-controlled instrumentality of the DNC. Democrats, and their media toadies, want the economy shut down for as long as possible in order to torpedo Trump’s prospects in November.

It will be interesting to see how the lockdown-vs-not plays out politically. There are definitely some who hope to parlay the nation’s pain into a Trump defeat in November, but it looks increasingly like we’ll see a range of responses from the different states. If, as currently seems likely, many more conservative leaning states opening up and IF they end up not suffering dire consequences (my best guess, but who knows), those more left leaning states and their leaders who chose to stay locked down longer will just look wrong. Then it will be easy for Trump to blame those Democratic leaders for their own economic problems (and China of course for everyone else’s).

To you and me, yes that is correct. But for average American citizens consuming mainstream media pablum, definitely not. The errors of those states and their leaders will be downplayed, excused, concealed, or all three.

The politicization of the virus in this election year is escalating big time. It’s not a perfect analogy by any means. But think back to the 1992 POTUS election. We were experiencing a very mild recession that summer. The American mainstream media blew that economic wrinkle up into a full blown depression, so anxious were they to elect Bill Clinton. It worked, and we sadly lost the services of a very competent, though imperfect, Republican, George H. W. Bush. 1992 was a clear cut media victory. It can happen again this year. They continue to try their best right now to defeat Trump, a project which has been ongoing since 2015!!

Trump was stronger than that. I was watching live when he called out Kemp from the podium. He was not nice, or understanding, or offering benefit of the doubt.
