The 2020 USA POTUS election politics, the civil war, and the world war (Part 1)

The following post falls within the “civil war” portion of this thread (please see thread title):

I would take issue with anyone who believes the focus in Seattle now is the CHAZ. I listened last evening to the anguished voice of a Seattle police officer, a woman, who called in to a Boston radio show. “Anguish” really does not adequately cover what she was experiencing. It was gut wrenching.

But the real story, again, is not the CHAZ but, instead, the reaction to the anarchists by the Seattle mayor and also by Governor Inslee. Both the Governor and Mayor Durkan are clearly on the side of those perpetrating the insurrection. The police officer, whose voice I heard, stated attacks on her and her fellow officers were coming straight from the top.

And that is the real story: This insurrection is being conducted with the full support, dare I say even encouragement, of elected authorities. For such as this to be happening anywhere in the USA is an abomination.

Note:

On chance you might be unaware, since this is being covered only tenderly by the American mainstream media:

CHAZ

The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, also known as Free Capitol Hill, is a self-declared autonomous zone in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The Zone, covering approximately six city blocks, was established on June 8, 2020

Xerty excellent post! And amazing stuff, too.

But also amazing:

When asked recently, in a news conference, about CHAZ, Governor Inslee claimed not to know anything about it!!!

I guess that lie was easier than having to try to explain how he could allow such a thing to take place right under his nose.

Your post does help me to understand even better why that police officer, whose voice I heard live last night, was so incredibly upset.

We are witnessing a state and city government sanctioned total breakdown of law and order. And if Trump tries to intercede he will be decried by Inslee and the media as a Nazi.

I’m a little bit of a cynical centrist. I await what CHAZ will become in a few months. Kind of a cautionary tale for everybody to see.
This is bonkers:
CHAZ Community Control

“Go back to your bunker”, Black Lives Matter… :rage: CRAZY…

“Senator John Cornyn, who is up for reelection in Texas in November, said in 2019 that if Texas becomes a Democratic state, “we’ll never elect another Republican president in my lifetime.” Senator Ted Cruz, a Texas staple, called it “game over” if Republicans lose Texas.”

“In the poll, Texas voters picked Trump to handle the economy by 54 to 40 percent but choose Biden to handle health care by 49 percent to 43 percent. Biden has a slight lead over Trump in handling the pandemic by 47 percent to 45 percent.”

Thanks for posting that. I think I’ll bookmark that for when reading polls. Not that I care about what others think but still, that could help make sense of what appear like contradicting polls.

Not really. Predicting a high % chance of one winning the election and the other wins does not mean the statistics were wrong.

Few (if any) were at predicting 100% chance of Hillary winning. There were several at ~95%, but that still means they saw a chance of the election going the other way.

538 had a pretty high chance (15%? going from memory, I’m not bothering to go look it up) chance of Trump winning given the available polling data. 1 in 6 is a pretty significant chance.

Yes. Really.

Seriously? The entire world thought HRC was gonna win that election. Come on, give us a major break here. Also:

I admit at the last gunfire, within only a few days of the election, some pollsters began to waver a tiny bit. But the change was not widely trumpeted. Virtually everyone believed HRC was gonna be victorious. I mean, what the heck, she still to this day thinks she won.

That stuff always bugs me. They all do that when their PR department did not write them a pre-rehearsed answer yet on an embarrassing topic. Pathetic and spineless. It just proves them fake and/or incompetent, hard to tell which is worse.

Personally, I like the CHAZ experiment in a grabbing popcorn kinda way. Very far from my own backyard and perfect to find out what would happen to the prosperity and peace of an area once law enforcement goes away. I’m thinking we’ve seen the scenario unfold - say in Somalia - and I don’t think it’ll end well but the proverbial you know what hitting the fan should be entertaining.

The whole world hoped that would happen. After Brexit, many feared there was a possibility of the other outcome. It’s not true that no one thought it was a possibility.

Anyways not a point arguing what you feel everyone thought. Can’t change that.

Going into election day, trump was definitely the underdog in expectations. Low chance is just not the same as no chance.

Meanwhile, not on Fox News and pro-Putin* sites.

Fox is photoshopping armed guards into CHAZ

While people are hanging out and making art.

And it’s open air movie night

At some point they will indeed need some form of police, but not currently. It’s looks like Burning Man in the city.

  • “By his own account, Lokey was writing as many as fifteen posts a day, among them most of the political pieces. The gig had a certain formula, he told Bloomberg: “Russia=good. Obama=idiot. Bashar al-Assad=benevolent leader. John Kerry= dunce. Vladimir Putin=greatest leader in the history of statecraft.””

What an interesting take!

Personally I feel very sorry for the good, decent, people who live or who make their livings within those seven blocks.

I guess the “experiment” is OK so long as you pack an AR15. But for me that would be quite outside the capabilities of my personal tiny collection of firearms which are, by comparison, peashooters.

In any event, the studied indifference of our mainstream media to this outrage, which does not at all fit their template, is noteworthy . . . but unsurprising.

Trump has rescheduled has upcoming OK rally to the twentieth. While I agree with this change, it would have been better had he never made the original scheduling mistake in the first place.

That said, if Trump cannot hold rallies he cannot possibly win. I’m glad he is boldly going forward with the campaign.

I wrote that earlier today. Afterwards I turned off my computer and went out and mowed the lawn.

But somehow that set me to thinkin’ and what I was thinking is not at all good for Trump. Please consider:

First think about what the Republicans did a while back regarding their convention. They planned it to take place in Charlotte. But the governor of NC is a Democrat. Using the virus as an excuse, he messed up the Republican’s convention plans and forced 'em to move the big doings to Jacksonville.

This was an exercise of raw political power by the Democrat NC Governor. Resist, disrupt, do whatever is necessary to create problems for the opponent. And it worked!!

Now on that same principle, let’s look beyond the convention on out to the campaign season. As I wrote earlier, Trump needs his rallies badly. They are how he connects with his voters. Of course the upcoming rally in OK is almost silly. Trump has the same chance of losing OK as Biden has of losing CA . . or NY . . or IL. But all right, Trump is seeing OK as a kickoff event. I can understand that.

Now let’s look deeper. The states that REALLY matter to Trump are MI, WI, PA, and NC. He loses those states and Biden wins. Trump must campaign very hard in those states to have a chance. But consider:

MI: Democrat governor. WI: Democrat governor. PA: Democrat governor. NC . . well . . we already discussed NC has a Democrat governor. All those governors have to do is to declare the Trump rallies too dangerous, using the virus as their excuse . . . and Trump is toast. He cannot campaign effectively if he cannot rally his base. And those rallies in too many critical instances are under control of Democrats. They can shut Trump down just as the Republican convention was shut down. And I doubt there would be any hesitation whatsoever to wipe Trump out this way.

Trump also needs FL and TX. In those states, because they are under Republican control, he will be able to campaign without restriction. But those states alone will not win Trump the electoral college . . . which is all that matters.

We can only hope that Trump has some very intelligent staff helper’s. Those people should be able to have a great plan working right now.

Of course a debate with Biden will turn the tables. (that’s if he is allowed to meet)

I dunno, pattyb53. I’m seeing his rallies as being pivotal for Trump. They offer him direct access to his voters. Twitter was doing that for him earlier. No longer. And obviously the mainstream media will spin any effort by Trump to reach his voters in a negative way. His rallies are the key.

Further analysis:

You might argue Trump could gain some access to those key states from neighboring, adjacent states. Let’s look at that.

There is some access to southern NC from SC, a friendly state. There is no access from VA. There is not important access from either TN or from GA, both friendly, because most North Carolinians live further to the east. You get out much west of Asheville and, well, not a great many folks live there.

WI? Fuggetaboutid. Maybe a tiny amount of access from Iowa. Probably not worth the trouble. The other border states are not friendly to Trump.

PA? Seriously! Don’t even think about it. OK, maybe a small amount of help from OH and WV, but not enough to really help Trump.

And finally, MI. LOL What’s Trump gonna do, hire a large boat!! All right, maybe some cross border events in both OH and IN. But he really can’t draw his MI fans to a rally in a serious way without being in MI.

So bottom line, cross border stuff will only help Trump, at best, on the margins. If he cannot rally his base inside those important states, he will be in a world of hurt.

All right, a minor miscalculation above. I forgot MD now has a “Republican” governor. I forgot because Governor Hogan is a Republican in the same way Mitt Romney is a Republican . . . same as John McCain used to be a Republican. These guys all are Republicrats.

Nevertheless, it is just possible Hogan might allow POTUS to rally in MD, which could help in pivotal PA. I dunno. Just as likely he would not. Flip a coin.

I can’t decide how I would feel about this if it were to pass. One the one hand, the pandemic, which doesn’t care about your party affiliation, is still raging. On the other this kind of partisan politics would be deeply unfair and likely set an undesirable precedent. But then again, the stunt McConnell pulled to block Merrick Garland was just as bad as far as undesirable precedents go. And it would be better if he HAD his rallies and then lost bigly than if he was blocked and lost.

This was a good article on how the far left and fear of purges of anyone against the current riots is destroying free speech and rational discourse in the public sphere, and especially academia and news reporting.

There’s a reason the article isn’t in a newspaper or on social media too. it’s on a publishing platform not subject to censorship where the author is only accountable to their paying subscribers.
