…at least he’s not making up excuses to try to justify, say, burning down a CVS.
He was just minding his business when he got pushed inside by the antifa mob, fell over and accidentally landed in a full set of riot gear. He almost tumbled off the balcony, but managed to save himself just in time. What a survivor!
Please note my consistency… If he feels there’s reason to file such charges, then that’s his duty and we should let that process play itself out.
My problem is with the rabble-rousers on soap boxes unilaterally assigning themselves the roles of judge, jury, and executioner. And expecting anyone they paint with a target to bow down to their faux (ie, baseless) authority.
Dems are seeking to push Pence into invoking the 25th. Clearly Pence and Trump have now broken with one another. But I think the VP will hang onto that club and not employ it unless Trump tries to do something he should not, e.g. try to nuke Iran or something akin to the seriousness of that, in an effort to “wag the dog”. Otherwise Pence, a rather low key guy after all, will just sit on his powder, keep it dry, and allow the clock to run out.
More than 200 congressional Democrats, including House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, quickly coalesced around the plan to force Trump’s resignation or press ahead with removing him. But privately, some Democratic aides and operatives are fearful that trying to push Trump out of office rather than letting him serve out the final few days of his term could backfire politically and create an unwelcome legislative distraction during the opening weeks of President-elect Joe Biden’s Administration.
Biden shares these concerns, according to three advisers. While he is publicly deferring to Congress, he knows Democrats’ efforts are highly unlikely to remove Trump from office early, does not want to distract from his legislative agenda and prefers to stay above the fray as he seeks to unify the country, the advisers say.
“He’s indicated, I think rather clearly, that he doesn’t see any great value in it, in that the Senate is never going to convict,” says former Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd, a longtime Biden adviser. Dodd thinks an impeachment push at this moment would rally the GOP around Trump. “Engaging in a futile effort at this juncture could play into his predictable hands and would be the subject of all the major news and conversation for the next 10 days,” Dodd says. “We ought to be talking about Joe Biden and his new Administration and what it means for people here and abroad.”
Dodd is very close to Biden. I know this to be true beyond doubt
Ultimately, the decision is not Biden’s to make. “He can’t really quite frankly do much about what Pelosi and Schumer are going to do,” says one longtime Biden adviser, who requested anonymity to speak candidly. “Because, quite frankly, they’ve got to take care of their base and their caucus too.”.
A Senate trial could occupy the first weeks of Biden’s term at a time when Democrats narrowly control all three branches of government, imperiling both their legislative agenda and Biden’s Cabinet confirmations. Some Democrats think it could jeopardize their support among the moderate voters the party will need to retain control of Congress in the 2022 midterms.
Does anyone else remember, back early in 2017 four years ago, how Senate Democrats led by Schumer slow walked every one of President Trump’s cabinet pick confirmation efforts? It was part of the “Resist” movement then being executed on the Democrat side. The Turtle (McConnell) did what he could, but under the arcane Senate rules there was not a whole lot he could do!
Fast forward to right now. At this point the Democrats are running a slow walk campaign against their own newly-minted POTUS. It is called “impeachment”. This will slow Biden’s confirmation efforts down significantly. And the Democrats are executing this all on their own. The Turtle is not having to lift a finger.
What’s best politically doesn’t come into the discussion. It’s about what’s right. Law and Order.
The unhinged Trump has demonstrated he is a clear and present danger to all Americans. Removing the threat is more important than potential political costs. At least that’s the oath everyone in Congress has taken, as has Pence.
But beyond even what is in that Time writing, the Democrats are failing to consider whom it is they are wanting to impeach at this pivotal time. Trump is gonna eat this up. He will LOVE the attention, make a huge deal out of defending himself, and occupy as much time as he can knowing it is harming Biden’s new administration. Like I just posted, Trump is well aware of Biden’s need to get off to a quick start, he will remember well what was done to him back in 2017, and he will revel in the remarkable opportunity to throw sand in the gears of the Democrats.
Fact: left alone with no trial, Trump loses all his power to influence events, he is out of the news, and he becomes just history. But instead the Democrats are playing right into his hands, and Trump will milk this opportunity to mess with them for all it is worth!! Heck, Trump will have nothing else whatsoever on his plate once the trial starts. He will devote himself entirely to making the Democrats pay, and dearly.
If we were six months out instead of eight days, no question you would be correct. But a week from Wednesday Trump will be gone . . . . unless they impeach him and force a trial where he can return from the grave.
Seriously? You’re just going to keep doubling down on the same attitude that resulted in all this crap? Just for the self satisfaction of “getting rid of him” after he’s already gone anyways…
In a couple weeks, you’re not going to have Trump the scapegoat to blame for all the unintended consequences of your crusades. Someone needs to take a calculated, long term view, or Democrats are going to end up just keeping the seat warm.
