Alliant Credit Union

Just this week I found I can setup recurring Alliant CU credit card payments via their website! Thank goodness!

On July 1, interest rates dropped again to 0.75%. Very uncompetitive and I moved most of my money out to Ally, which has similar fund availability by check if I use my grandfathered GMAC MMA account.

I canecelled the Allinat CC last week as the fee was coming up in Aug. Not worth the 99.00 anymore and the return on VGC in groceries is not great as I have those Amex OBC for 5% in groceries.

We find ourselves this morning less than one week away from first of August. It is edifying, and not just a bit frightening, to consider our Alliant savings interest rate will once again be likely to descend.

How low will it go?

I don’t wanna know. :anguished:

Well, we’re at .75% right now. Looking at past declines, I’ll put my prediction in at .6%.

Edifying, how?

I’m not sure what to think of this. Is this good news, bad news, or will this be business as usual?

Dear sullim4,

As an Alliant Credit Union member-owner, your support and trust are of the utmost importance to our success. Our first priority has been, and always will be, making your banking experience simple, rewarding and reliable.

After 17 years, I have made the bittersweet decision to retire as CEO and President. Since 2003, we grew from a small credit union to a best-in-class national digital financial institution, all while providing excellent rates. MONEY recognized Alliant as the Best Credit Union of the Year in 2019 and Bankrate named Alliant Best Credit Union in 2020. NerdWallet also recognized Alliant for the Best Bank for Online Experience in 2020. I am incredibly proud of how far we have come, and what we have been able to accomplish together.

I am genuinely excited to introduce you to my successor, Dennis Devine, who joins Alliant as its new Chief Executive Officer and President. Dennis previously served as President of Consumer Banking at KeyBank. Dennis shares my passion for building a great digital member experience, and I am confident he will drive Alliant forward with the same dedication to its members. You can read more about Dennis here.

It has been my great pleasure, privilege and honor to serve our member-owners. Thank you for being part of our member-owner community.

Many thanks and best regards,

David W. Mooney

Additionally, Weiss has downgraded Alliant to a C- following Q1, where Alliant’s “net income” was -$27.03 million. BECU also lost money, but not a single other bank or CU I looked up had a negative net income. Something’s amiss, it seems.

That is very interesting, thank you for the information. @shinobi, you track these ratings pretty closely. Any idea what the previous rating was? It’s behind a paywall on the Weiss site.

Not sure if this belongs in the Alliant thread…

Curious if anyone has more info on this. I did a transfer today from Alliant to Pentagon Federal. I noticed that it is showing at Penfed 10 PM central time. With most banks and CU’s, it would not show until the next day.

Very sorry do not have that data. I track ratings at many (too many) credit unions where I have significant exposure. But Alliant is only my hub account. I do not have a lot of money there. Just one heck of a lot of activity. :grinning:

Nevertheless I hope we do not take too harsh a hit tomorrow on our Alliant savings rate. Life is less complicated when I can leave money in my Alliant savings. Hoping for the best.

Alliant OSA not showing any rate change. Maybe it’s because they don’t update their website on a weekend or did we get a reprieve this month?

It’s now Monday. It looks like Alliant is not cutting this month and staying at 0.75%.

“We will be performing system maintenance on Saturday, August 15th from 10:00pm - 3:00 am Saturday, August 16th CT.”

Hmmm…

Alliant just closed our August Visa Signature statements. Whew . . . close call!

They got me on a charge I did on Thursday hoping it would not make the cut. But it did! Small money so no great loss. But definitely lesson learned.

A MUCH larger charge from yesterday remains pending . . . . . . . thank goodness. That was my intent.

Just sort of thinking out loud:

It is an Alliant advantage that they never close our Visa Signature CC statements later than the fourteenth of the month. This is because Federal and state tax payments routinely are due on the fifteenth of the month. You pay on the fifteenth and Alliant carries your payment for an extra month while your dough remains in the bank earning interest . . . . though not very much these days, sadly.

FYI, about 2 months ago the minimum Alliant CC Rewards Redemption went up to $50 (from $25). This was a bit of a surprise as I didn’t see it mentioned anywhere. Normally I expect a Change of Terms notice on or attached to the CC bill, but I can’t find anything like that.

I see it was changed July 29th in the Terms and Conditions, which say Alliant can change the Terms and Conditions at any time with or without notice.

About 50% of my redemptions have been less than $50. The higher minimum is less convenient, but many other cards have this minimum level for cashback.

There is an important post regarding Alliant appearing currently on Ken’s website. For Alliant members and followers here, this is the link:

Important? Not really.

Alliant is still refusing to go along, and is still enforcing the Reg D limits of 6 per month.

All it means is that they continue to enforce their account terms.
