It seems everyone is having different experiences with Alliant ACH transfers.
I was up early this morning to check on several transfers made yesterday. These transfers involved $$'s coming into Alliant accts as well as $$'s on the way out.
Everything was processed perfectly, One day transaction.
The reason this movement can be difficult is because I have 3 separate Alliant accts. Also I needed the transfers, $$'s for sure, to arrive in Alliant today (Thursday). Next, these very funds are ACH transferred today & expected to arrive at final destination Friday. Holiday Monday.
I had a fun new Alliant issue crop up a few days ago. When checking my Experian credit report, I noticed my Alliant Visa (Rewards, no annual fee) showed no limit, no payment history, no status, and the following message:
“Account in dispute – reported by subscriber (fcba)”
I did not dispute the account, so I’m not sure what went wrong, but am concerned by the fact that something went wrong. My TransUnion report shows a similar result.
I emailed Alliant about this and they let me know that they submitted a request for the reporting to be reviewed and updated if necessary.
This ACH posted at around 6.15am ET. So things appear to be normal again. I’m not sure of the reason why the ACH yesterday posted late (probably after I sent in an inquiry).
And i did two transfers on thursday into Alliant and both were pulled from the other banks AND posted to my Alliant Checking today…so i would say the 1 day transfers are still in effect…
As of tonight, my points are now once again worth $0.01 each, bringing the card back to a 2% cash back card. I wonder if this is a glitch? Can anyone else confirm this as well?
EDIT: This is in reference to the Rewards Visa 2x points card.
After fwshack mentioned this, i went to the Alliant Rewards link from the credit card…My card is relatively new and i don’t have enough points to see what the amount of cash redemption i would get but when i clicked on some gift cards i saw that the value was restored…
For example: an AMC Theatres Gift Card for $50 costs 5,000 points…This was not the case when i checked the last few weeks after the points had been devalued…
So it looks like they have restored the full value of the points and made this a true 2% cashback card again…
I was just wondering, fwshack, if it showed the full points value if you wanted to cash out the points as well…(say to your checking account for example)…
And if anyone else here has the card…please also check and confirm…
If they did, it must be because the saw a huge drop in members using it, so that inspired them to “make amends” LOL
The “cash out” amount still seems to be set at $50 but still…if it is 2% cashback again then instead of using the card just occasionally i will go back to regular use of the card…
More likely, a coder decided to get a jump on programming in a pending value change and accidently made the changes live. There’s no way “pushback” would prompt them to reverse course in a mere 30 days, I doubt most users would’ve even noticed the change that quickly.
If that were the case…when i secured emailed them about it, they confirmed the value had been changed…why wouldn’t they say it was a programming error…and that it would be restored within the next few weeks…
Just wouldn’t make any sense that they would change it (even if prematurely by accident) change it back and within the next few weeks they are going to drop it again…
If the plan was to drop the points…they would have just left it that way…not temporarily change it back and confuse everyone! (LOL)
Looks more like they changed their mind and decided to restore it…
Prior to yesterday, if cashing out cash or points for anything else, it showed the lower value. So, you seeing $50 gift cards for 5,000 points means you should also be able to get $50 cash for 5,000 points. Let’s see how long this stays!
Why bother with Alliant BP or their CC? I only use the savings to xfer funds to new bank accts for the bonuses. Most code as DD. Cancelled cc that was 2.5 % years ago. I do BPO via my online bank accts. AND they code GoBank as a dd to keep it fee free.
Alliant offers one of the best online checking/savings combos in the business, imo. The rates are competitive, the funds availability policy is generous with most checks clearing instantly, and ACH transfers are quick and just work. I agree with you on the CCs - I’ve never been impressed enough with their rewards cards that I have applied for any of them.
I got the Signature at 3% one year with no fee. There was no limit so I bought a used vehicle that year for $15.4K and got $460 cash back.
Then it changed to 2.5% with a $59 fee, still worth it to me.
Then they raised the fee to $99 (although they’ve been charging me $59 so far. I don’t know why.)
Then they limited the rewards charges to $10,000 per month. This doesn’t bother me since I’ve spent that much only once when I purchased a vehicle.
There are no foreign transaction fees.
It’s no longer a great card but it has enough benefits for me to keep and use it. With the $59 fee I paid last year I gross 2.2% in rewards for $20K spend. With the $99 fee, it will be just 2% at $20K
And now that it seems they have restored the points value to the Platinum Rewards card, what’s bad about a card that gets 2% on everything? A lot of people have Citi Double Cash, Fidelity 2% card, etc…And No Annual Fee…
I agree with you, Argyll. I max out that Alliant 2.5% card nearly every month, making much more than enough to cover the $99 yearly fee.
There are quite a few 2% cards around now, though, all having no annual fee. The best of them are the ones that pay your reward most quickly. On that basis, PenFed is best, Citi is worst. Of course you end up with a 2% reward regardless. But I’m not keen on waiting.
I use the Discover miles card 3% on everything first year only. You need to wait for 13th month and then they double the 1.5%. I close the card and then get same card for wife. After her year is up i reapply again for me. Worked for 3 years so far. For groceries and online groceries I use the blue cash preferred 6% but 95.00 fee and capped at 6k yearly. Wife and i each got 300 bonus last year on the bcp. As long as everyone stays healthy…this is fun. Since I am a mser i got 3800 after gift card fees in a check from first Disc. Miles card and wife 2400 but less buying gift cards due to pandemic. And Disc does not care about buying online from vanillagift.com when they have fee free days.
There are better alternatives available if you are willing to look beyond cash, imo.
While the amount of air travel we’ve done has gone down, only taking a single RT flight since the start of the pandemic, we’re still staying in quite a few hotels on road trips and staycations. And that makes Chase → Hyatt transfers really valuable for us. I value 1 UR point as worth about 2.3 cents, and with CFU earning 1.5UR per dollar on general purchases, that’s about 3.45% back on general purchases, with no AF. That is at pandemic rates as well; I can eek out a few tenths more during regular or holiday rates. With an 80k UR sign-up bonus on the CSP, and the Chase Freedom rotating bonus categories, it is really easy and quite lucrative to get into the Chase ecosystem.
I have the grandfathered Priceline card as well, which nets 3.33% back when redeemed for Priceline or Airline purchases with no annual fee. Understandably, this is quite generous and thus is no longer available.
As Barry mentioned, the Discover Miles gambit of 3% back for the first year, with alternating between cardholders, is another alternative cash cow that’s better than the Alliant card.
I just can’t see myself paying a $99 annual fee on a card that offers no sign-up bonus, no perks like the Chase cards do (DoorDash, etc), and requires 11k in spend to break even. That’s why Alliant’s cards never piqued my interest.
I was actually curious to know who you use for checking and savings, since I think Alliant’s offering is pretty awesome there.
Alliant Signature’s sign-up bonus is no fee the first year – a full 2.5% cash back the first year from the first purchase.
I prefer cash back as it doesn’t lock you into having to buy something you might not want to buy, and the return is almost immediate (a few days after each statement).
Their other cards have 0% APR introductory rate on purchases for 12 months.
