Ally is still holding strong at 1.5% savings. Better than Alliant’s recent 1.35% drop. I’m not currently rate chasing so much but usually Alliant takes a slight lead and Ally matches. Opposite this time. Ally’s slow and steady horse has pulled ahead…

Today’s update:

Western Bank rate drop showed up today. Was 1.85% now 1.60%.

Only two liquid accounts that I’m aware of that are 1.80% and above:

CFG Bank Money Market 1.90%

CIT Bank Money Market 1.80%
https://www.cit.com/cit-bank/bank/money-market-account/

Patriot Bank Money Market at 1.75% remains the only liquid account I’m aware of with any sort of a rate lock. Rate is locked at 1.75% for new accounts through 5/31/20.

Pickings are slim to say the least…

Seeing a post elsewhere that Northern Direct will pay 1.75% on savings account deposits of $5k and above. That was as of two days ago.

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks, glitch99. Wow that is a high rate and I already have an account there! Gotta take a really close look at that one. One thing, though: no rate lock.

Yes, I also have an account there. Just checked & I have $25 in the mm acct 1.75%. So any amount will get that rate.

I had to call them because my id wouldn’t open the account. After the rep asked me some questions, she cleared the acct. No guarantee of how long rate will last. :rage:

It’s 5k minimum to open a new account with them but there is no ongoing minimum balance for the account to earn the 1.75%. NBD was the bank that paid 2.5% for quite some time with a rate lock if I remember correctly, but when they lowered to 1.75% they did not continue any type of rate lock. I have all my liquid money at Patriot 2.22% until July but am looking at where to go after that. Would prefer a rate lock, however, as we all know it’s slim pickings out there. Ken did feature a MMA through TIAA yesterday with a rate lock of 1 year at 1.40%. I will open this to have a guaranteed floor but I sure hope to not have to use it.

I’m in right now at PurePoint and at NBD. When one or both of those go south I’m in a world of hurt. And I think it’s gonna happen. Do have Alliant as (not a very good) backup.

Good news at NBD, but something you most likely took for granted:

NBD is paying interest from day of ACH deposit. Made a sizable deposit yesterday via ACH, called just now to ascertain my accrued interest. It was right.

On background:

I run this check routinely after having been scammed at Virtual Bank. There, they do not pay interest the day ACH funds are received. And they do not tell you about this practice, either! I found out by accident. Never take anything for granted.

Trust. But verify.

Two drops today:

Vio Bank High Yield Savings was 1.75% now 1.70%
Smarty Pig was 1.50% now 1.40%

Also noteworthy - Ken is featuring a bank that I was not familiar with until I read his post. ConnectOneBank Online Savings Account pays 1.75% on balances $2,500 to $250,000. No rate guarantee but rate has held fairly steady, was at 1.82% in March before the drop to the current rate of 1.75%. Ken warns the rate is not a blended rate so if you go above the $250k max, the entire balance in the account earns the next tier rate which is only 0.30%.

Ken screwing the pooch today at NBD. He is featuring the 1.75% APY MM account at the top of his blog this morning:

If they were unaware before, now everyone knows about NBD

This is not helpful to those of us, like everyone here, who already knew. :anguished:

I decided to place some of my matured funds into Northern Bank this morning. 1.75% I guess is about the best rate for liquid funds.
