I also applied for the Interior FCU 24mo 3.14% CD.
I just called & was told I must wait for another e-mail that will give me the instructions. I don’t know how to down-load my DL, but I can e-mail it when they give me an e-mail address.
As soon as I can get an account #, I’ll set up the ACH process for depositing the funds.
I guess this is as good as it gets these days.
I’m reading it a tad bit differently, famewolf. The 20 month bump CD jumbo pays the same rate as the 24 month NON-jumbo.
Anyhow, that is how I’m seeing it.
I DO believe a 20 month CD today, generally, is better than a 24 month. Hence I continue to like that 19 month at Hanscom and plan to go forward with that if I’m able. 19 months is better than 20 months. Neither is as good as pattyb53’s 18 month. But you do the best you can.
But their 2 year jumbo pays the highest interest rate of all . . . again the way I read the data. Not seeing a 20 month that pays that much.
That’s what my post tried to say Shinobi which is why I stated the one that matched was $100,000+ and the rate for $500-99,999 was 2.80. I just used the dollar amounts without the jumbo/non jumbo terminology.
In any case thanks for pointing out the credit union.
Well, again, the APY at USPSFCU is slightly higher. And a great many others are going that route despite being forced by the CU to use the US Mail. We have choices and we all make our choices. I myself prefer to operate online. I also found several of the USPSFCU application questions unnecessarily intrusive. So I’m content at Hanscom and Interior FCU. And being able to charge over $2700 on my Alliant card is not difficult, either. That is tax-free reward money in my pocket!
Shinobi,
What is the max you can fund with CC at Interior? Might jump on the 24mths deal before it’s gone. I am trying to ladder my cds and I dont have any 24mths one yet. Thanks for your post!
This is something with which I have a great deal of experience. There are no hard and fast rules. You try and hope for the best, keeping your eyes WIDE open as the charge goes through.
I myself have had very good fortune. But I’m aware of others who have NOT! I will say this:
Your chance for success is sufficiently large to where it makes sense to try, provided you exercise due diligence. But keep track of and check everything, and assume nothing. More likely than not you will like the outcome. However I make no promises.
It looks like the “bump up” CDs are only available for HSA and IRA accounts? Otherwise I dont know why they’d only note it’s available for these two specific account types.
I’d probably jump in on the 24 month $100k option for 3.14%, but I dont have $100k I’m scrambling to find a home for at the moment.
Well, my life has become simpler. Hanscom just turned me down flat. They do NOT want me as a member. They got me on some sort of ChexSystems rap.
Q: Any clue on the specifics?
None whatsoever. Unless they are reacting to my recent CC account closures. Other than that I have a clean record. I mean, no defaults or late payments or anything of that sort. Nothing at all.
Guess I need to pull my ChexSystems report and try to figure out what happened to me. Tough one. I really liked that Hanscom 19 month. Oh, well. Gotta move on. Hope Interior does not also think I’m dirt.
Thanks. I have been researching and, of course, I have requested a copy of my Chex report. But it will not arrive in time to help.
Insofar as I was able to determine, Chex does not get into credit cards at all. It focuses on banking, especially checking. If one of your bank accounts was closed by a bank or CU, that is a Chex negative. If you bounced even one check, ditto.
But I have none of that going on. All of my many banking relationships are in good order. Course I worry that might be the problem. I have at least two dozen such relationships, and good order or not Hanscom might have found me unacceptable simply because I have too many accounts already.
No. On the CC side I was a bad boy and got shut down. But, again, I do not think Chex gets into credit card stuff. If they do I am unable to locate, on the net, any reference to it.
Just a brief heads up for anyone else applying at Interior FCU:
I received an email from them asking where I learned about (i.e., heard about) Interior FCU. The email said this question was supposed to be part of the formal application but was inadvertently omitted from same. They held up my application until I responded to their question. For me this was only a VERY brief holdup or delay. However:
If you applied to Interior FCU keep a sharp eye on your email and respond as quickly as you can to their inquiry. Otherwise you will be delaying things for yourself, which is probably not a good idea at this point.
I applied yesterday & received the e-mail fairly quickly. Everything was approved but they needed a copy of my Drivers L. I e-mailed it right back & am waiting for what’s next. That should come today.
Unlike a credit report, ChexSys does NOT maintain a record of all your accounts. It only shows various bad things, and inquiries. If you denial was based on ChexSys, it was likely the number of recent inquiries.
And no, your credit card accounts are not relevant to your ChexSys report.
I have contacted Hanscom and, you’re right glitch99, this was what they did not like. Thing is:
My research on the net indicates financial institutions are only supposed to report negative events to ChexSystems. I have no negative events in any of my banking relationships, to include checking, savings, money market, certificates of deposit, etc…
However, based on what the rep at Hanscom shared with me, a couple of my financial institutions are reporting non-negative events. And it is all those reports, a great many of them, which deep sixed my prospects at Hanscom. I appealed and they are having another look. Am uncertain at this point whether or not they will change their mind.
I still really like that 19 month Hanscom CD, and their Thrive account as well. But if they continue to reject me at least I am in at Interior FCU . . . so I have a place to go. I’d like to split the money I have to invest. Realize now must accept that might not be possible.
They appear to have a good process, pattib53. Do not think you will have to wait very long.
However, this Interior deal finally went up this morning on Ken’s website. Course everyone here is well ahead of that crowd. But just keep on galloping and don’t look over your shoulder. There might be a large wolfpack a ways back there and going in the same direction you are.
