Does the coronavirus merit investment, or personal, concern or consideration?

You can bring your own pen that triggers those touchscreens for things that other people would touch. Carry it in your bag for outside travels and just leave it there when not in use. Same with a little key or similar device for pushing elevator buttons, pulling open doors that don’t need knobs, etc.

That’s a great idea. Every business seems to have a touchless payment setup, but only so that “they” don’t have to touch it.

I started using google pay because I did not want to insert my CC into a slot where others have put theirs or use pin pads. I just remove one of the nitrile gloves I use before doing the transaction so I don’t put germs on my phone. If your phone is not setup for that, many credit cards now can do tap-and-pay contactless payment and they also won’t require a signature or PIN.

Really hardly any reason to swipe or insert you card nowadays since virtually all the stores have at least one contactless option (again at least around here).

Or you can just use hand sanitizer as soon as you can afterwards. As long as you don’t touch your mouth/nose/eyes before you do that, you should be fine. Consensus is also that exposure dose matters.

No officer, it’s not an open container of alcohol. I finished that beer last week and you saw it at my lips because I was using it as an emergency spit cup. The can is cold because it was sitting in front of the AC vent.

I don’t see any indication that he is drinking, In fact, he’s had time to put the water bottle down (if he actually picked it up), and start using his phone. Additionally, his mouth is open and it appears that he is laughing, which expels more potentially deadly virus laden breath right into the face of someone who isn’t socially distanced. That recipient of his non-masked exhalation also doesn’t have eye protection. Thus, unless the good doc knows … [switch from sledge to tack] If Dr. Fauci can’t take criticism, he should be more aware of how he behaves in light of what many consider to be his mountain top commandments.

Initial reaction - Charlie Brown.
Less comic reaction - if this is what constitutes an attack, Portland’s rioters actions must be an insurrection. Also if he can’t take the heat, …

I feel like James Dean, living fast but not dying anywhere near young. I am the exact opposite of everything listed. I wear a mask when the preponderance of the population is wearing one, or required by law (legal or not).

I don’t breathe that well, but it’s self-inflicted from smoking for 40 years. My good fortune may be due to the fact that I interact with less than 50 different people per week.

OTOH, my lovely wife is about as scared as the local news reporters appear to be. She is very mask aware and very liberal with the sanitizer.

Companies Start to Think Remote Work Isn’t So Great After All
PW:DR

Now, as the work-from-home experiment stretches on, some cracks are starting to emerge. Projects take longer. Training is tougher. Hiring and integrating new employees, more complicated. Some employers say their workers appear less connected and bosses fear that younger professionals aren’t developing at the same rate as they would in offices, sitting next to colleagues and absorbing how they do their jobs.

Months into a pandemic that rapidly reshaped how companies operate, an increasing number of executives now say that remote work, while necessary for safety much of this year, is not their preferred long-term solution once the coronavirus crisis passes.

Sounds like you have a very high risk comorbidity and should be more cautious than you are. Your wife probably fears more for your life than her own.

I saw somewhere that this pandemic is causing people to quit smoking in higher numbers than anything else ever did. There’s an investment concern for ya – short Altria & PMI .

Here is another subject that is driving me crazy. Women in Sports!!

Early this morning I heard on CNN. (yes, occasionally I watch) They were promoting a women’s basketball game. The team practiced in shirts that read BLM on front & their name on back with Brianna — (can’t remember last name).

Later on they came back out on the floor for introductions. As soon as that was over & the National Anthem started to play, the whole team rushed back off the floor. (in mass)

What a rude display. I don’t approve of the soccer gal that goes on her knee for the NA. Now the Women’s Basketball. No respect!!

They won’t see me watching much in Women Sports. I do enjoy our Women in The Olympics. (please don’t knell for the National Anthem)

What does that have ANYTHING to do with this thread?

Your right. Should have put this the Political War. Guess I offended you. Sorry…

“Plandemic”. Didn’t you know Fauci made up the hoax just to damage Trump? So it’s the same as the “fake” BLM. There are no racial problems, that’s a hoax too

QAnon! Find the “truth” for yourself!

Thanks for your concern, seriously.

I have several high risk activities, much more than not wearing gloves, but figure I’m about as cautious as necessary. Although your second statement is correct, she would be just as cautious if I weren’t around.

Between all of the news and everybody under the sun accepting, if not outright promoting the fear, we left for a couple of months. We received more weather reports than news and it was wonderful … but a real downer / eye-opener upon our return.

As for smoking, I made a serious effort to quit at least a half dozen times, using almost as many methods. My doc recommended Chantix as soon as it hit the market. Within 12 hours of my last cigarette, I knew it worked.

Were you also moon walking?

Now the baseball season, already shortened, is threatened. This young man, a BoSox pitcher, contracted COVID-19 and the infection has worked its way into his heart:

Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez confirms he’s dealing with heart issue stemming from COVID-19 infection

This chap is only 27 years of age. With luck he will eventually recover and be OK. But I think for much older persons, in the same circumstances, the outlook might not be so good.

Also the Marlins, following a road trip to Philly, ended up with fourteen team members contracting the virus. Such as that does give pause. You have to hope they were being careful. But apparently not careful enough.

Pfiezers vaccine is aiming for approval as soon as October.

Phase 2/3 study of up to 30,000 participants aged 18 – 85 years started in the U.S. and expected to include approximately 120 sites
Assuming clinical success, Pfizer and BioNTech on track to seek regulatory review as early as October 2020 and, if regulatory authorization or approval is obtained, plan to supply up to 100 million doses by the end of 2020 and approximately 1.3 billion doses by the end of 2021

That does not bode well for other sports or schools. MLB bubble was supposed to prevent this and it took very little time before it exploded.

The MLB bubble was supposed to only include around 8k people. Our school district is about the same size counting students, teachers and admin. With a lot less financial resources than MLB in terms of affording and enforcing safety precautions, I don’t know how they can feel confident that the same is not going to happen in schools 2-3 weeks after re-opening. Not a good sign for things to come.

IMO, MLB is not really in anything close to a bubble. Neither is the NFL

NBA is in sort-of-a-bubble (except it’s in the USA, and Florida in particular) but the local area still has out of control community spread of the virus.

NHL is in one, and in a country without such widespread virus spread due to government negligence.

This COVID-19 corona virus is not one you want to contract:

JAMA Cardiology: 78% of those in study, who recovered from even mild COVID-19 infections, sustained lasting heart damage

COVID-19 is bad totem even when you do not perish. Avoid!!

Yeah its not good.

However I would point out that this is “mild” infections only among people who were hospitalized. I don’t think hospitlization is a ‘mild’ case. 90% of people in the US who have the virus aren’t hospitalized. So if you’re already hospitalized then thats not ‘mild’ in my mind. They are talking about ‘mild’ cases relative to the worst folks in the hospital in the ICU.

But yeah if you go to the hospital with it seems its bad enough you may very likely leave with lasting heart problems. :frowning:
