Does the coronavirus merit investment, or personal, concern or consideration?

Not sure where the 10 min comes from. The exposure dose in mRNA is not ascertained yet and virus density in air is very variable based on respiratory events. One normal breath contains only a dozen of those virus mRNA strands but one cough is a few 100k mRNAs and one sneeze could carry millions. Additionally, we’re not even sure about how much of the virus is in droplets vs airborne. If airborne, those could remain suspended for a few hours according to NE journal of medicine, meaning several class changes.

So if this scenario of mixing up with 100s of others breathing the same SARS-COV2 particles in close proximity repeats over 8 class changes per day for weeks, I’m not sure how you can be so certain nobody will get high enough exposure dose to become sick.

This is a preventable failure any way I look at it. If corridors cannot be less packed than that, then at some point, an adult in the room should grow some balls and decide that mandating mask at class changes should be the bare minimum to attend school. Masks have proven to reduce transmission rates and for 5 minutes between classes, would not kill anyone to wear to protect themselves and others.

“Prolonged contact”. “Drive-by” casual contact is very low risk. And I’m sure the air quality in those hallways is less than ideal, but again, kids are just passing through and not lingering in that environment.

Fearing that hallway is fearing potential exposure, not likely infections. I’d be more hesitant about standing at their locker with the person next to them, for a prolonged time, even if they were the only two people in the hallway.

Knowing kids, why wouldn’t a student post this photo on his or her computer? It’s normal, IMO, that students talk & post daily.

Unless the school district had informed students of posting photo’s not being allowed. It seems to me that the district was caught not prepared for this type of activity.

As a parent, I would very much be upset with the school for suspending my child for this.

I hope we can all agree that their reaction wasnt remotely appropriate. It was pure retaliation for causing the school some bad publicity.

That’s standard policy for both public and private schools.

You don’t remember signing an NDA on your first day of kindergarten?

The New Zealand warning is definitely absurd, but the second part makes sense – North Korea and Turkmenistan can’t be trusted with their zero known cases.

Though it’s off the topic, I wonder if it’s OK to make photos of underage students public without their consent? Most people are facing away in that photo, but not everyone. My concern is for the privacy of students. Does going to a public school (i.e., public property) mean they have no privacy? How about a private school?

No. It doesn’t really have to do with being public property or in a business open to the public. Going to a public restroom in a school does not mean other students are free to take pictures of you on the toilet and post them.

Being in a public space where there’s no reasonable expectation of privacy does mean anyone can take a photo, with few exceptions (harassment of an individual, etc), not a crowd photo. Being in a public area where there is an expectation of privacy (restrooms, etc.) is a different situation. Or businesses using pictures of individuals for marketing/profit.

They quickly rescinded the suspensions yesterday after they indicated ‘substantial national interest’ in how stupid they looked.

I live in the county just east of Paulding (Cobb) and can tell you that Paulding is run by plenty of people that like to ignore facts.

Since 2010, with the passage of the Affordable Care Act, coverage of pre-existing conditions is required by law.

On Friday night, Biden said he’ll be working on an executive order to require health insurance companies to cover those with pre-existing conditions. Did he forget? Does he know the law?

Does he understand he has no ability to order anything?

Trump has the ability to order cheeseburgers at McDonald’s. The tiny hands impairment doesn’t take that ability away.

You mean it wasn’t Jim Biden? But I have a very good memory! I remember names!

Maybe you should take this test:

~300k by December 1

From Trump’s “speech” today: “And the beautiful thing about this difficult time is we’re now coming back and setting records.”

Yes. Setting records.

Following up on the rapid testing approach, here’s a quick 5min version of the basic idea and some of the biological motivation behind it.
