How is spending a portion of funds that Congress allocated specifically for paying for vaccines on actually paying for ordering vaccines “due to Trump”? Just because he didn’t block them being used for what they were allocated, like the CDC funds that he blocked? He does deserve credit for not completely screwing it up, that’s the one thing he has at least mostly done right…
Obviously the USA Federal government had the greatest ability to expend funds to implement useful mitigation and development of testing/tracing (a complete botched disaster). And we spent the most funds. With bottom-of-the-barrel outcomes on death and destruction from incompetency. The least we could have done was bid the most for the vaccine candidates… And that obviously would put us at or near the front of the line for the vaccines.
Well sure. Like the trillions that were pissed away with intentional sabotage, so out of that significant spend we still obtained among the worst outcomes in the world in overall death and destruction from the virus instead of the funds being used to get things under control.
Sure. But in this case the funds were approved and directions for their use provided by a different branch of the government. Trump’s only successful part of the task was to follow through with the directions. He failed miserably at the other crisis response that didn’t have explicit directions provided by the other branch. Yes, he does get credit for that. Just like a kindergartener gets credit for coloring within the lines in a coloring book. But doing that one task right doesn’t make up for smearing shit all over the walls in the restrooms or for pushing classmates out of a third-story window.
Trump is already personally responsible for many thousands of deaths of Americans. Imagine if the hospitals and medical community actually behaved like he and his vicious adherents were telling the truth about the coronavirus. Many tens of thousands more would die.
Trump is a clear and present, and proven and disgusting danger to all Americans.
Yeah, it really terrible how we just blew past the initial projections of 2.5 million deaths by summer…
Which, in case it’s not obvious, is to say that without the blind hatred, most of the time actual results that beat the projections by 90% would be considered extremely successful.
The number you are referencing is HIGHER than the high side of the range given if nothing was done whatsoever… Obviously after the Trump admin stopped hiding that the virus was already here, or even as the hospitals passed breaking point and the freezer-trucks for morgue overflow were seen, people would have even taken some mitigation steps all on their own. The 400k-500k we’ll be at by the time he is escorted out of the white house is around a third of the low end of their estimates for deaths with doing nothing whatsoever.
You are right, the 300k+ excess deaths so far has already blown past the higher end of the estimate range given by Trump for only minimal but consistent mitigation measures while ramping up testing and tracing capacity and then moving to surveillance testing and containment of small outbreaks. Maybe encouraging idiots to disregard public health directives and “tell[ing his] people: Slow the testing down, please!” has something to do with that?

Of course he is responsible. His irresponsible behavior is responsible for people not believing the virus is real, not wearing masks, having mass gatherings, and then dying, but not before claiming with their dying breath that COVID is a hoax. He is MOST responsible for that.
