Infections with the new variant… were associated with an increased risk of death (P<0.001) in people testing positive for covid-19 in the community. The increased hazard ratio between 1.32 and 2.04, higher than for other variants, translates to a 32% to 104% increased risk of death, with the most probable hazard ratio estimate of 1.64, or a 64% increased risk of death. The absolute risk of death in this group of community identified participants, however, remains relatively low, increasing from 2.5 to 4.1 deaths per 1000 cases.
Wow! Let’s shut down Western economies again!!! This is another d̶u̶m̶b̶d̶e̶m̶i̶c̶ pandemic … wait, wait, channeling Herbie … here it comes … Oh, the humanity.
I’m not sure what the R group is, but I’m not refusing to go for the vaccine. I am just so young and have so many years ahead of me that I don’t care for the long term side effects.
OTOH, if Uncle Joe will pay me enough, I will give serious consideration to considering it.
ETA: Congrats on getting access after the distribution fiascos.
Masks for thee and not for me, the Climate Envoy edition.
“I salute our Very Special Presidential Envoy for Climate for not flying private, but instead flying first class commercial with the rest of us common folk,” said the passenger. “And while he can’t bring himself to follow his own party’s mask restrictions, we should cut him some slack.”
“Being an elite hypocrite is hard work!” the passenger added. The plane was mostly full, the passenger said.
With this or that variant of COVID-19 resurging all around the world, I have to wonder how much longer America will be able to avoid this latest tidal wave.
Perhaps our higher level of vaccinations, together with the onset of warmer weather, will save us. I hope so.
Huh? I read that we were fs,m near dead last in the world, at least thru January. We now have a higher level of vaccinations? Who said the truth isn’t malleable? Maybe it was WHO.
For vaccinations? Don’t think so. US has been probably in top 10 since mass vaccinations started in Dec (at least for bigger countries, some tiny islands have done it quicker I think).
I can understand Israel being way high, but Chili is at the top level.
Wonder why US being upper middle level? Guess I expect our own country to always lead the pack. Not sure, but I think President Trump & “warp speed” vaccine was the fastest.
Back to Chili being the leader. Surprises me, but I’ve done quite a bit of traveling in Chili in the past years. Great country with fine people.
Love to travel though their vineyards & beautiful farming areas.
So “6 feet” suddenly becomes “3 feet” to allow schools to “safely” reopen. But “3 feet” will still kill everyone anywhere else. Glad the virus decided to back off and allow kids to get an education.
Where are the “So we were wrong, and all this remote stuff may not have been all that necessary after all. Sorry for ridiculing all of you who have been saying this all along.”?
So it’s cold, but you travel north & it. warms up. I don’t know if geese fly that far down hill.
Chili is a wonderful country to visit. Go on a cruise around the cape, weather & sights are unbelievable. Take another land trip to really see the beautiful country.
