Also note that hospital data is laggy and, like US reported deaths, increases for dates that have past as the reporting comes in, so it’s probably somewhat worse than it looks now for recent time points.
O - hitting S. Africa fast. Positive tests jumped from 1% to 20%, estimates are that the R value is over 6, even more transmissible than Delta at about 5, and it seems to have a much higher ability to reinfect people who had survived prior covid cases. Cases there are doubling every 3 days, and 3/4 of sequenced cases were Omicron.
