“Each bank “concealed from the public that it was reshuffling the PPP applications it received and prioritizing the applications that would make the bank the most money,” each of the four lawsuits said.”
“About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone.”
"Hydroxychloroquine made no difference in the need for a breathing machine, either.
Researchers did not track side effects, but noted a hint that hydroxychloroquine might have damaged other organs. The drug has long been known to have potentially serious side effects, including altering the heartbeat in a way that could lead to sudden death."
“And I say it, ‘What do you have to lose??’, and I’ll say it again: 'What do you have to lose?? Take it. I really think they should take it.” “Try it… if you’d like” “I may take it. I’ll have to ask my doctors.”
Hmm… Still need more data (biggest study so far but far from perfect). But I guess we can answer Trump’s question. What you might have to lose is just your life and/or future health from organ damage. Oh, right, we already determined that “Nobody knew healthcare was so complicated” a couple years ago.
An NIH panel recommends against using a combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin for the treatment of COVID-19 patients because of potential toxicities.
“The combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin was associated with QTc prolongation in patients with COVID-19,” the panel said.
QTc prolongation increases the risk of sudden cardiac death.
There is clear evidence of toxicity but no clear evidence it helps in the case of corona virus, so that’s why they recommend against it.
Although much has been made of corona virus being especially dangerous for the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions, 20% of hospital admissions for COVID-19 have been from ages 20-44. A 5 year old girl died Sunday in Detroit.
Admissions yes, but deaths are running 90%+ for ages 65+.
The greater death rate for the elderly is seen in all diseases. It’s not unusual. Pointing to it and claiming that means the disease is not dangerous is unusual.
The younger people are more likely to die if they do not get hospital care. Disease isn’t only about mortality, but the care needed.
So unusual that this claim really hasnt been made at all, at least not here.
Everyone knows this can be dangerous. The question is the risk, and probability, of it being dangerous. That generally yields much less drastic answers.
Trump ordered the Petroleum Reserve topped off a month or two ago at $30 a barrel.
No conflict of interest here. Nothing to see, move along…
Doesnt seem remotely inappropriate or out of line, either.
“Just treat us the same,” Eric Trump in a statement on Tuesday, according to the Times. “Whatever that may be is fine.”
The pandemic relief bill has a ban on aid to government officials. It prohibits businesses controlled by the president, vice president, members of Congress and heads of executive departments from participating in the loan or investment programs. In addition, the children, spouses and other relatives are also banned.
Sure i agree about the elderly usually being worse off, but I take issue here with the media’s (IMO) propaganda efforts in recent weeks to play up the risks to young people in order to scare them into following isolation / lockdown. I view articles that cite hospitalization rates among the young, or worse even infection rates among the young (in places were those may just be in line with local demographics), rather than mortality rates, as misleading and possibly intentionally so.
Very often these stories will cite some individual case of some young person getting very ill or dying of covid, often without mentioning they had some weird condition like no immune system or something totally unrepresentative. The Navy carrier has 600+ positives among a relatively young crew and they’ve got about a 1% hospitalization rate (8), 0.1% ICU rate (1), and 0.1% mortality rate (1) at least so far. Over half of the crew with the virus are asymptomatic, and other studies ala the NYC pregnancy one show very high rates of totally asymptomatic infection especially among the non-elderly. See the CDCs table 2 here for comparative death rates this year by age group.
Yes, lots of people with a bad case of this will need supplemental oxygen or similar healthcare and will certainly have much worse prospects without it. By the time it comes to ventilation level interventions, the prospects are much less good and the majority of those patients aren’t surviving anyways. I don’t think here in the US we’re particularly close to not being able to provide basic healthcare to everyone who shows up even in hard hit places like NYC, and nearly all the rest of the US without their very high population density and very infection-cultivating subway system will have the same levels of spread.
Meanwhile fat boy Pritzker is making out like a bandit with his Hyatt holdings. But that is fair, because Mr. P is a Democrat.
Interesting. I used to program the pasteurizers and most processing plants are not part of any dairy. That industry is going through quite a lot of consolidation into factory farms.
Even though I’m very close to the city, I can have up to 2 goats or 6 chickens since I got a decent sized lot. If this keep going maybe I should get one ![]()
Previously discussed here, for the stimulus payments they are supposed to use the most recent (2018 or 2019) tax filing.
The FAQ currently on the IRS website seems to indicate they’re at least currently may not process based on 2018.
" Why am I getting “Payment Status Not Available”? (updated April 17, 2020)
"The Get My Payment application will return “Payment Status Not Available” for several reasons, including:
- You are required to file a tax return, but:
** * We haven’t finished processing your 2019 return**- The application doesn’t yet have your data; we’re working on adding more data to allow more people to use it."
"
- The application doesn’t yet have your data; we’re working on adding more data to allow more people to use it."
If your 2019 return was filed, that would be your most recent. Even if they havent completed processing it yet. That’d be a logical, if somewhat unexpected, donut hole for people to fall into.
Im referring to the case with 2018 as most recent. In which case it says you can’t check status or update because 2019 hasn’t been processed. (That’s how mine comes up – status not available)
I wonder if we’ll get near the physical checks all being sent out by July 15. If not, then the choice/option to use 2018 is moot.
I’m just saying that particular bullet point is (ok, could be) because a submitted 2019 return will show as the most recent, and thus take precedence over the 2018 return, but because it hasnt finished processing yet the info isnt available. It in no way implies they’re only looking for 2019 returns.
