Investment impact of Russia Ukraine crisis

Hey xerty – 20% of your backyard now belongs to me. Also most of your pool. Now let’s stop fighting.

Is that acceptable to you, or are you a war monger?

Not only so. Once Xerty puts down any defense, you’ll take the balance 80% still left. Peace for our time, said Chamberlain.

the war monger isnt Ukraine, they can fight for their stuff if they want. The US, UK, France, etc are the war mongers who, after Ukraine was about to lose, gave them extra weapons so they could lose more slowly - it’s like the boxing coach who encourages the losing boxer to get up and go another round and get clobbered again, more brain damage, etc, just because it makes for good TV or something.

The result is better geopolitics for the US supposedly, and more dead Ukrainians. Whether that’s good or bad for the people of Ukraine used to be up to them, but there’s no more free press or elections so I guess it’s just up to Zelensky and Biden and Lockheed Martin. Meanwhile, Russia is responding by ramping up their nuclear rhetoric and connections with China and North Korea.

  • RUSSIA’S PUTIN: RUSSIA IS THINKING ABOUT POSSIBLE CHANGES TO ITS NUCLEAR DOCTRINE.
  • RUSSIA’S PUTIN: POSSIBLE CHANGES RELATED TO LOWERING THE THRESHOLD FOR USE OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS WEAPONS IN THE WEST - IFX
  • PUTIN: NO NEED FOR RUSSIA’S PREEMPTIVE NUCLEAR STRIKE - RIA
  • PUTIN: RUSSIA EXPECTS THAT ITS COOPERATION WITH NORTH KOREA WILL BE A DETERRENT FACTOR - TASS
  • PUTIN: WE DO NOT RULE OUT SUPPLIES OF HIGH-PRECISION WEAPONS TO NORTH KOREA

Just what we want - more nuke tech for North Korea. Meanwhile, we’re stiffing Israel on arms for Ukraine:

  • WHITE HOUSE: U.S. WILL REPRIORITIZE PLANNED DELIVERIES OF FOREIGN MILITARY SALES OF PATRIOT, OTHER MISSILES TO GO TO UKRAINE INSTEAD
  • WHITE HOUSE: UKRAINE IS IN DESPERATE NEED OF MORE AIR DEFENSE CAPABILITIES

Well, we all have priorities I guess.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that Russia is the aggressor in all of this.

I’m not ignoring it, and even setting aside the history of our meddling there, why does Russia being the aggressor matter? Is it somehow the duty of the west to intervene in every local or regional conflict and try to pick winners and losers? That’s been going so well in the Middle East, we’re going to try it in the Balkans and Eastern Europe?

It matters because you can’t deal with a bully by giving them everything they want and settling on their terms. They won’t learn any lessons.

Lessons in morality don’t matter much in geopolitics. Remember what happened to Athens’ weaker neighbor when Athens came with their big army and demanded surrender? They didn’t want to give up their independence and be forced to pay taxes to Athens (reasonable, but not an outcome they could defend militarily). So rather than being subjects, after a little fighting and their predicable loss, Athens executed all the men, enslaved all the women, and took their lands themselves.

the strong do what they will and the weak suffer as they must

As true today as it was two millennia ago.

More escalation. Biden plans to send US mercenaries, er military contractors, to help fight Russia in Ukraine.

US and Russia swap prisoners. We gave up Russian spies, hit men, and high level criminals (fraudsters, etc). We got westerners dumb enough to go to Russia and get in trouble, Russian political dissidents, and Ukrainian terrorists.

And a reporter who was not dumb. Evan Gershkovich

Nordstream update, Ukrainians admit to it.

https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/nord-stream-pipeline-explosion-real-story-da24839c

“I always laugh when I read media speculation about some huge operation involving secret services, submarines, drones and satellites,” one officer who was involved in the plot said. “The whole thing was born out of a night of heavy boozing and the iron determination of a handful of people who had the guts to risk their lives for their country.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky initially approved the plan, according to one officer who participated and three people familiar with it. But later, when the CIA learned of it and asked the Ukrainian president to pull the plug, he ordered a halt, those people said.

Zelensky’s commander in chief, Valeriy Zaluzhniy, who was leading the effort, nonetheless forged ahead.

Attempts by the Eurozone to interfere with the Trump-Musk interview are pissing some people off.

Great work, Europe. No really, you’re doing fine. You’ve got British toadies threatening to extradite American citizens for speaking freely and some dork at the European Union threatening an American citizen for daring to have an online interview with one of America’s two major party presidential candidates. That’s going to go over well. Good thinking because Europe can sure afford to alienate the members of one of America’s two political parties.

The Russians are coming? Hey, sounds like a personal problem, Monsieur Pierre Le Beau and Sir Adrian Wellington Smythe-Grimbsy. Turn off the Eurovision Song Contest and go fight your own damn wars. Or just submit. You have more in common with the Bear than America nowadays. You both arrest people for speaking freely.

I wonder if part of the plan now is to occupy Russia and then swap…

It’s a good plan!

US to give permission to Ukraine to use our weapons to attack targets in Russia.

Meanwhile, Iran is providing weapons to Russia for the Ukraine war, and Russia is thought to be providing nuclear missile technology in exchange. This doesn’t end well, for the US, Ukraine, or the Middle East.

  • IRAN’S HIGHLY-ENRICHED URANIUM STOCKPILE GROWS 16%
  • EUROPEAN OFFICIALS EXPECT IRAN TO DELIVER BALLISTIC MISSILES TO RUSSIA SOON, POTENTIALLY PROMPTING A SWIFT RESPONSE FROM UKRAINE’S ALLIES
  • BLINKEN: RUSSIA IS SHARING TECH IRAN IS SEEKING INCLUDING ON NUCLEAR
  • EU’S FOREIGN MIN. BORRELL: IRAN’S SUPPORT TO RUSSIA’S AGGRESSION WILL BE MET WITH A STRONG EU RESPONSE.
  • EU’S FOREIGN MIN. BORRELL: TRANSFER OF IRANIAN BALLISTIC MISSILES TO RUSSIA REPRESENTS FURTHER MILITARY ESCALATION, VIOLATES UN CHARTER AND INTERNATIONAL LAW.
