I also recall the guy with the epic circus thread - and I think he died very young?
we already have a thread about it here:
True-to-life “Bleak House”, from what I recall.
Wasn’t there a cat house thread? Anyone remember the address? Would be fun to do a google street view drive by and see what it turned into!
It turned into a coyote house for a few months to take care of the cats. Then a few crocodiles moved in. Then Floridaman moved in to get rid of the crocs. But then he got a girlfriend, she kicked him out and now it’s a cat house again.
and looks like OP has disappeared too
indeed
and he’s back!
I was just reminded of him when I saw a reference to the 2000 era video game which presumably inspired his username.
the golden age
I think of him every time I get some sort of spam call and wonder if I could whack them for $1000 statutory damages in federal court.
It was a pretty good site. Virtually all of my miles and points shenanigans as well as ongoing connections in private groups can be trace back to it one way or another.
The spirit of it still lives on. Just not in public. A lot of that content is on Reddit now, but there are limits to discussion because of the sheer scale of users and how easily anything you say in there goes into the search engines.
Threads I miss…
The epic one about the tree falling in the yard.
The circus guy
The member with 100s of thousands of dollars of unsecured debt with Chase that negotiated a haircut on it without ruining his credit.
The pedantic thread arguing about the word verbal versus oral.
Same for the one complaining about property taxes in Texas…
And of course, the OG discussion of early 2000s online casino bonuses, which pretty much changed my life.
Dont forget the annual updates about the inheritance that had been tied up in court for decades.
Thanks for letting me know how much I missed… somehow…
. Don’t remember the casino, texas taxes, or the inheritance one… and I joined mid '03.
The casino stuff I think predated that and it was so lucrative it quickly went offline.
The Texas one was mostly people bitching about having to pay 3% property tax, on a house that only cost 150k. I’m picking up Mike a little bit here. I don’t know if he’s around. I believe he was the guy who whacked that mortgage company for millions of dollars under the false claims act for ripping their customers off.
OOh, I Remember that one!
Good times…
The interface is sort of clunky, but a bunch of it is archived over on archive.org
I never posted much, but benefited greatly. AARP 5% cashback with coins and 7% when used on Carnival cruise and simply adding to your account and cashing out at the casino then depositing cash once on shore at each island was epic.
I was trying to purchase a house so I never did the App-o-rama for fear of screwing up my credit at a critical time.
It was a thing of beauty. Between fat wallet and flyertalk, I’ve flown all over the world thanks to the banks.
I don’t know if y’all know the app Flighty, but it will make a little map of your cumulative activity if you have all the receipts. It said I had done the equivalent of going around the world 53 times dating back to around 2007 or so.
