Just a friendly reminder to buy your 1st class stamps before the price increase on July 12, 2026

Forever Stamps will jump in price (again) another 5% from $.78 to $.82 on July 12, 2026, so if you’re running low, you may wish to buy now.

(edit to add) Costco’s sale price on a roll of 100 is good thru August 10

This made me wonder about these stamp retailers - do they buy their inventory at the lower price, then sell the stamps at the new higher price?

I think it’s a primarily a loss leader for them - on a package of 100, they’re always a few cents cheaper than the post office. The stamps I get at Costco typically aren’t older designs which would imply a bulk purchase from ages ago. Though to be fair I primarily buy stamps at Christmas for cards; I otherwise don’t send much mail any longer.

That said I do think they use price increases as a way to stock up on inventory, which they bleed over the course of the next couple months. Costco doesn’t like to sit on stock for too long.
