Or their apology for it, which can be read as not a joke if you try hard,

The culture war is heating up. Ben Shapiro is a pretty savvy media guy so he may succeed.

On Wednesday evening, The Daily Wire’s co-CEO Jeremy Boreing announced the company would “invest a minimum of $100 million over the next three years into a line of live-action and animated children’s entertainment on its streaming platform.” He added, “Americans are tired of giving their money to woke corporations who hate them. They’re tired of giving their money to woke media companies who want to indoctrinate their children with radical race and gender theory. But they want to do more than just cancel them. They want alternatives. The Daily Wire is giving them those alternatives.”

While technically correct, they may not take the time to figure out what alternatives are available, and how to support them.

I know a lot of people who, on principle, want to support non-commie (it’s a joke, get over it) companies, but like most of America, want an easy path to do so. Sadly, that’s not going to happen in my lifetime. It, like liberty, requires time and effort.

They do realize that Twitter and Facebook at one time “only” had 513,000 users as well? And that they werent competing with any big established platforms while trying to grow? I know Trump’s mouth talks like it was going to immediately become bigger than all the others combined, but realistically even the most adament suporters knew/know it is something that takes time to build.

So, once again, I cant help but wonder why more arent offended by such pandering. If I were gay, I’m pretty sure I’d find the connection to be patronizing and insulting, how everyone thinks I need support and sympathy and guidance from a freaking [literal] cookie. I’m pretty sure aspiring singers dont give two craps about Coke when American Idol judges prominently sip from their cups on TV.

I think it’s not just one thing. The fact that if you sign up currently, you’re placed on a wait list with 1.5M others isn’t a great sign of them managing scale very well. The other is Trump’s engagement on it. He’s basically never posted anything beyond one promo message at the very beginning. I don’t know if that level of personal investment is a good indicator of his actual faith in the platform’s future success but I think it certainly does not help the platform

If I have to guess, it’s because they don’t care either way. All ads are some kind of pandering anyway. And they may welcome the fact that it’s being talked about at all. Kinda like when same sex marriages/couples became OK to have in commercials, TV programs, etc. It eventually lead to more people getting used to the idea.

Now why the company feels they need to pander to LGBTQ+ crowd, I’m guessing it’s down to demographics showing them losing teens/young adult customers and that’d be one way to try to regain some of them. But as a company, it’s one thing to promote allyship and DIER but it’s a further step to make it a centerpiece of your marketing strategy.

“Looking forward to working with Parag & Twitter board to make significant improvements to Twitter in coming months!” Musk tweeted in response.

He could start by asking why Iran strongman Hassan Rouhani has a Twitter account but President Trump does not?

Okay, presuming that even they are not dumb enough to advertise to the dead, what is a DIER? I could guess at allyslip, but my relatives at M-W don’t offer any other clue. I could also offer DLLAL, but that would not be inclusive.

does DirecTV have any competition? I do not know enough about the technology to say but could OAN go on Spacex’s Starlink?

Acronym for Diversity, Inclusion, Equality, Respect. Stuff many companies now promote internally partially because it’s woke but incidentally, it often leads to better outcomes for their bottom line. But it’s one thing to implement it in your workforce if you think it’ll be beneficial, but it’s another to start public PR campaigns on political issues.

Thank you.

So this replaces WOKE? Wow! WOKE only lasted a couple of years. Is it now racist/taboo?

No man, DIER or DEI is the training you need in order to become woke.
Also, last I checked “woke” is not an acronym, so no need to uppercase it.

Thankfully, for most businesses, it’s just the window dressing needed for a business so they can avoid the claim that they are systemically racist. I had my mandatory DEI training a couple months ago and it was thankfully very benign. There were a couple of white people that went out of their way to sound a little extra woke when they spoke in front of the whole group* or some that tried to portray themselves as victims overcoming oppression. But other than that, the (well paid) facilitator didn’t ask a whole lot of us and we weren’t required to confess our white privilege or anything like that. Woke box checked. Nothing changed. Time wasted. Back to work.

*A well off white dude told a story of how he was “awoken” to the plight of black people when he left his well off white suburb to go to college in the south and ran track with a bunch of black kids that desperately needed their scholarships and had to work to support family back home. Apparently the fact that there are tons of white kids with that exact same experience didn’t occur to him and he wasn’t actually learning anything about the black experience when he went to school - just the experience of a lower socioeconomic class.

That was my impression of our own training as well. Company I work for is very diverse by nature since it requires a ton of language experts. It’s also pretty diverse gender-wise with maybe more women in management than men as it were. So it felt all a bit useless to “train” people how to work harmoniously with a variety of people from different backgrounds when 70% in the room are not born in the US and you hear more foreign languages than English around the water cooler. Like you said, felt like woke box checking more than anything else.

I have a feeling that mask will not be a passive investor in Twitter.

Elon Musk on Saturday openly mused about whether or not Twitter—a major social media company of which he recently became the largest single shareholder—is “dying” due to its apparently low popularity among major celebrities.

Referring to a list of the top 10 most-followed accounts on the social media site, Musk wrote on Twitter: “Most of these ‘top’ accounts tweet rarely and post very little content. Is Twitter dying?”

Is it dying? Or is this how it is supposed to be? Following and listening to what the ten most popular people in the world have to say is what the nightly news is for. Twitter and other social media is to give the other 6,999,999,990 other people in the world a public voice as well.

One of the main reasons people are interested in Twitter is that it gives them a chance to directly communicate to the powerful people, such as those with a huge number of followers. Or so they think. If the big people seldom or never post on Twitter and the lie becomes rapidly clear, people may lose interest.

Aint that the truth. I’m amazed at how many people believe the celebrity is actually on the other end of their tweets. The ones who are, usually end up banned

But while I dont disagree with what you say, I’d add that such engagement goes much, much deeper than any “top 10”. People follow their local sports reporter for the direct engagement much moreso than they follow Musk or whatever top celebrity. Expand this to a list of the top 5,000 followed accounts, and Musk’s comment would have more merit.
