There’s nothing to track down, it’s called out directly. The dates listed directly on the Senate’s site (which i linked, rather than an image posted to Twitter “source”) is from the senate receiving the nomination. The Twitter post doesn’t even claim those times are shorter than that between now and election day, only days before the term ends in January…
CNN clearly listed that time (from the nomination been received in the senate) as well as the time from the nomination being announced by the President.
Way I understand it, Pelosi has the power to shut down the Senate and keep them from voting on Trump’s SCOTUS nominee.
Once she formally sends over articles of impeachment, the Senate must attend to those and drop all other business. Pelosi could do as she did back in December. She has the House vote impeachment. Then she sits on those impeachment articles until the Senate is at a critical point in the confirmation process, say just prior to a final vote. At that point Pelosi shuts 'em down so no vote can take place.
Else Pelosi holds the impeachment vote in the House and simply holds the articles over McConnell’s head as a threat should he attempt to confirm Trump’s nominee.
It could happen.
ETA
A third option:
Pelosi uses her power over the Senate to delay the vote there until Mark Kelly is seated. Without McSally, McConnell probably would not have enough votes to approve Trump’s nominee.
While many believe Trump will nominate Amy for the court, I dunno. The lady judge from Florida has Cuban ancestry. Nominating a Cuban American to the Court could cement Florida for POTUS big time.
And if the Democrats thwart a Cuban American nominee it could harm Biden’s prospects even outside Florida.
I see no political advantage for Trump in nominating Amy, so long as the Cuban lady judge is a staunch Conservative, which I believe she is.
Sweet Lisa, dripping with virtue , has so signalled. She is so virtuous I cannot stand the sight of her.
And then of course there is always (ugh!) Mitt. He has managed to keep his yap closed so far. But you have to know he will screw Trump without hesitation at every opportunity. And what a wonderful opportunity this would be!!
False. All she said is she doesn’t want to confirm before Nov 3. She hasn’t even said she won’t actually vote to confirm if it was rammed through before then… just that she doesn’t “support” it.
With RBG’s passing there remain only three solid liberals on the Court. So when matters pertaining to the election reach there for adjudication, the worst outcome for Trump would be a tie . . . . if Roberts votes with the libs as he far too often is wont to do.
In a way Trump cannot lose. If his nominee is confirmed in time she breaks the tie in his favor. If she is not, he still is in pretty good shape.
Exception:
When the SCOTUS ties the lower court decision stands. If Trump loses there he could be in trouble. And you know the Democrats will shop shop shop like crazy for a lower court favorable to them…
RBG was a lady of the Jewish faith. As such, according to Jewish custom, the burial is to take place ASAP. Quite often this means the day following death. There of course can be, and there are, exceptions.
I’m watching for RBG’s burial to be used as a political tool. It would be unseemly for POTUS to announce his nominee before RBG is laid to rest. Should that happen you can bet the American mainstream media propaganda arm of the DNC would decry Trump from pillar to post (what the heck, that is all they do anyway). But time to confirm Trump’s nominee is VERY short and everyone is aware of that.
Delay of RBG’s burial will cause Trump and McConnell to be squeezed all the more. Watch for this to happen. Democrats will be in no hurry laying her to rest. Count on it.
So sorry… Rest in peace RBG. But President Trump must fill the Superior Court seat soon.
I like the lady judge from Florida, . She would help Trump with Cuban’s. Florida is so important in this election
.
I would go for Amy also, she would be very acceptable. Far as the election goes Trump has to forget heart & go for the all the edge available.
We’ve got these 3-4 Republicans that each time Trump needs extra help just have to put up resistance. Like you, Murkurski (not sure of sp) just drives me crazy. Alaska needs a real Repub to fill that seat but Lisa is good for another session
.
Susan Collins of Maine is almost as bad. She is crying for help (money) & the way she puts up a fight at every turn she should wonder why we hesitate. Why does she think we Repub will donate. I’m always getting letters from her for help. But in her case, she usually comes through in the end. (mostly)
Rare disagreement between us on this one. Susan is not even close to being as bad as Lisa, who is a skunk. Here is why:
Collins is desperately trying to do something which is nearly impossible. She is trying to hang onto a Republican Senate seat in New England . . . . Maine to be specific. Maine once was full of American patriots. Think Margaret Chase Smith. But in recent years Maine has been invaded by thousands of liberal elites who have all but taken over. Only extreme northern Maine, hard alongside the Canadian border, remains traditionally patriotic. Southern Maine is just a bunch of worthless Democrats.
So Collins has her hands more than full trying to secure her seat. She is not virtue signalling. She is fighting for her political life which she easily could lose this November third.
The Murky one’s situation is entirely different. That old crow isn’t even standing for reelection until 2022!! With her it’s all about showing how politically correct she can be and harming Trump. She is under no pressure at all and has no need whatsoever, at this time, to refuse Trump a vote. Murkowski is a pure bred RINO, it’s that simple. She is not quite as bad as (ugn!) Romney. But it is close.
RBG spoke out on filling SCOTUS seats following the death of Justice Scalia. Ginsburg publicly called on the Senate to go through with a vote on the nomination. Here is the quote:
“That’s their job,” she said. “There’s nothing in the Constitution that says the President stops being President in his last year.”
“Eight is not a good number for a collegial body that sometimes disagrees,” Ginsburg said on the issue during an event at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who was with her, agreed. “I think we hope there will be nine as quickly as possible.”
“What we do is we automatically affirm the decision of the court below. No opinion is written, no reasons are given, and the affirmance has no precedential value,” Ginsburg explained. “It’s just as though we denied review.”
Unfortunately for the Left, their revered Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg made the case back in 2016 for Trump to nominate, and for the Senate to confirm, her own replacement. You can point to the words of politicians who adjust their views to accommodate their desired political ends, and great, there’s plenty of that to go around on both sides. But are the same people mourning the loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg going to say that she was wrong?
If this happens, she should be impeached. Impeachment is not a weapon to use for political leverage; using it as such would be far more “corrupt” than anything Trump has been accused of.
A 26th woman recently accused Trump of sexual assault, rape, or harassment. There are photos of her with Trump the day of the assault and she has her ticket to the US Open where they were, as well as several people say she told them at the time.
The above number excludes women Trump adulterized with that he paid to keep silent. Bannon said there were about 100 of them. I think only two or three of them came forward.
The others Trump promised to sue, but it’s been like his promise to release his taxes.
I disagree. There may not be a mandated time frame, but the Supreme Court should not be screwed with - there should be an appointment ASAP.
Yes, I feel the same about what was done in 2016. And I suspect that 2016 is what is driving that poll result, the respondents are merely holding them to the precedent that they previously set.
Is there another Justice that’s about due to retire? Maybe now’s the time - make it a two-fer, and let each side pick their ideal candidate.
