I mean, they do. How much should they pay? Say the top 10% of people by income are “rich”. Should they pay 20% of all taxes, twice their per-capita share? 30%? 50%? 75%? 90%? 100% or more?
Decide what you think is “fair” and then peek at the answer for what that group already pays as of 2017.
Donald Trump wanted daughter Ivanka to be running mate in 2016, book says
Gates says Trump was serious about making his then 34-year-old daughter his potential vice-president, returning to the theme and even carrying out public polling.
Caveats are in footnotes are in that link. That’s only federal taxes (and the highest group it looks at is 1%, not 0.1 or 0.01% or specifically at groups of tax avoiders), most taxes other than federal income taxes are not anywhere near as progressive as federal income taxes, and some are regressive.
Imo, I don’t see the point of taxes as really to fund public finances like harish described it… but that’s a different nuance, there are some other purposes for them, though. (Government could still “spend” with no taxes, it pretty much does so at this point with massive deficits anyways).
Edit: Anyways… wouldn’t Trump show up in the lower income percentiles in that report? That’s why he paid no taxes… so that doesn’t say which wealth groups are even paying federal taxes. Just what percentages are paid by groups broken down by taxable income that was self- reported to the irs…
Well, certainly not Trump. So, there is clearly some loophole that he and his tax advisors took advantage of and allowed him to pay much less federal taxes than your typical middle class worker.
Delaware State is an historically black university. Biden, on the stump in SC during primary season, said he got his start there. It was a lie. Biden was awarded an honorary degree from DSU long after his college years were behind him. That’s it!!
Not really. Often, holding real estate generates more depreciation than it brings in as rent received. It isnt until you actual divest of something that you get hit with that $38-million tax bill…
I thought Trump’s shtick is taking a quote out of context and pretending Biden only remembers 1920 (before he was born) and nothing recent? Can’t have it both ways.
And then you threaten/blackmail (with the might of the U.S. government) anyone who may shed a light on, or question said criminal activity. Joe (call me Godfather) Biden didn’t even need to get his wife to steal the corvette. He could’ve done it himself.
That’s probably one of the more factual things he’s said, even though he’s demostrating a Kramer/Seinfeld level understanding of “write off”. He’s just leaving out the part where the payments are actual cash paid to her and taxable income for her.
Just one problem - all those potential bad things he supposedly fears come from him being audited. Which is already happening. Not from merely releasing the returns. Releasing his returns only creates more pointless fodder for the rabblerousers.
