Yes, they do think that individual choice can lead to more or less wealth and that nobody is predestined, but they’ve controlled for it, and as a group, black Americans are poorer than white Americans because of structural racism in American public policy. Read those emphasized words and give it a second thought. They don’t say that the whole country is racist. They talk about public policy, and there are plenty of examples. Just off the top of my head: mortgages a few decades ago is a huge one, where blacks were prevented from getting loans or buying property in white neighborhoods. This has stealthily carried over to the credit scoring system, which is color-blind, but not poverty-blind, and more blacks (vs other races) happen to be poor (as a result of structural racism in public policy), which means it’s harder for them to obtain credit, buy a home, and get out of poverty. Another is unequal policing, which inevitably leads to higher incarceration rates, disenfranchisement, and a continued cycle of poverty.
Electing a black president doesn’t mean racism is over. Having a black friend or a Jewish son-in-law doesn’t mean you’re not a racist.
First of all, Georgia Tech is an oxymoron, proof of which is readily found in your posts.
Everything I wrote, regardless your disagreement, is absolutely spot on. If you are young you might have opportunity to learn that for yourself. And I hope you do.
Finally, the best of Georgia is found not in Atlanta, but instead at Stone Mountain. I’m surprised the high tech geniuses at Georgia Tech have not yet devised a way to blow it up. I know they want to.
Defining treating people equally as “giving someone the same as everyone else despite them making vastly difference choices in their life” is what’s anti-American.
When I was taught to always respect the police, while a little black boy is taught to always blame the police, the result is not racist systemic white privilege that I’m benefitting from. It’s poor parenting that little black boy is suffering from.
Huh? That statement is exactly true. Do you really not know any American history? Much of America was built by slaves – especially the South. Even the US Capitol and White House were built by slaves.
After they were freed, the US maintained an apartheid system where blacks (certainly in the South) were kept as third class citizens with none in government, police, or any official position, not allowed to vote, not allowed in any significant profession. Also generally not allowed to buy land or property or run their own business.
Jim Crow was institutionalized racism.
Forms of it continue to be practiced. There are many monuments and places named after white supremacists and “honoring” them for oppressing people and trying to preserve slavery.
Black businesses getting loans or people getting educational assistance was next to nothing for most of US history. At the same time, they were subject to considerable abuse and violence.
Democrats who refuse to accept they lost the last election, and have spent every moment since creating chaos and making sure the whole world knows how much of a mistake that was.
I’ll never understand how someone who serves at the pleasure of the President can be cheered for ignoring policy directives, while the President is then vilified for removing that person from the position. I agree it’d be pretty entertaining to watch, if I wasnt stuck in the middle of it.
Yes xerty, Blacks looked so forward to that 1st Black president. They went wild in the streets.
Many of those Blacks have now found out the our President Trump has done more to help them. Along with those African American folk, Trump is gaining more Latino’s.
I really feel & I think many other loyal Republicans are so disappointed with the 1st debate. Wish we could do over. Biden would have done himself in if Trump would have held his tongue & let Biden talk. So maybe the last debate will help.
Trump/twitter conspiracy theory nonsense that keeps getting referenced in this thread…
" The interview – available in full on YouTube – featured questions from potential voters, who spoke to Biden via videos broadcast onto a nearby screen.
A voter begins to ask her question at the nine-minute mark. At the 10-minute mark, midway through his response, as the feed cuts out, Biden notes, “OK, I lost that lady.”
Marc Caputo, a reporter for Politico, said on Twitter that he asked Diaz-Balart if the teleprompter claims were true, and the Telemundo anchor replied, “Of course not.”
Caputo said Diaz-Balart explained the moment: “He was asked to answer questions from Telemundo viewers – they were on a monitor. He would answer the monitor. In one moment, the monitor went to black – he said, ‘I lost the lady.’ I told him he could answer looking at me, and that was that.”"
No fantasy! More than any other President. Except maybe Lincoln!
Back to seriousness, it’s really crazy Trump has already killed over ~1~1.1 (it’s been another 3 weeks) in 1000 of all Black Americans this year with Covid19 Trump Virus.
