The 2020 USA POTUS election politics, the civil war, and the world war (Part 1)

More on that here.

The irony of this is rich. If there has been one, consistent elite narrative about this presidency, it is that it’s been the apotheosis of “white supremacy”: the most racist, sexist, homophobic, ableist, anti-Black, transphobic, Islamophobic, and xenophobic manifestation of the American cis-hetero white patriarchy you could possibly come up with. And yet a critical segment of all these duly oppressed minorities voted for it to continue.

Yes, the exit polls need to be verified and may shift — but they’re the best data we now have. And across the surveys, Trump won 30 percent of non-white men, 32 — 35 percent of Latinos, 28 - 34 percent of Asians, 52 percent of Native Americans, 59 percent of Pacific Islanders, and 27 - 28 percent of gay men, lesbians and transgender people. 30 percent of Muslims voted for the president who initiated the “Muslim ban” in immigration — a big jump from last time. In 2016, only 15 percent of American Muslims said they were Republican; by 2020, 25 percent did. Or take the gays: the Republicans got the highest percentage of the gay vote this year since it was first recorded in 1992 while the Democrats slumped to an all-time low.

Biden (probably) won in spite of the progressives’ identity politics, not because of them, given the big shifts in minority political preference. Let’s hope he realizes this in his policy choices.

IMO, not really. He still won a large majority of their votes. It’s hard to make a backwards argument that 80%+ of votes to Biden is “winning in spite of them shifting away from him.” That’s a very strong show of support…

It’s just crazy the 90%+ where it was at in some prior elections, that’s pretty impossible to maintain.

Much of the rabblerousing is white people claiming victimhood for minorities. If I were a minority, I’m sure I would enjoy constantly being told that my life sucks and how they’re going to fix it for me, too.

First, let’s start with the obvious. The right always decries the polls because they consistently show wide support for Democrats and liberal policies, and thus are “fake news”. Andrew is citing the most “fake news” of all these polls, the New York Times and AP. So, by his own definitions, the results of the polls he cites are invalid and inaccurate, except of course they indicate something he can view as a positive, so now they are gospel truth. So his premise is faulty from the start by his political stances view on the very polls he cites as evidence.

Now, why you shouldn’t take anything seriously that Andrew Sullivan says on race and government:

Hey look, it’s Andrew Sullivan, the person who popularized the book The Bell Curve and it’s attempts to be scientifically racist, to teach us about race!

Ooh, ok. Now let’s assume this guy is right somehow. Us white folk (and I am a middle aged male white folk) are somehow the smartest, most genetically gifted people around. Now this is his idea remember. So by his logic reasonably we should see what sort of government the smartest most genetically gifted people around set up, because that’s going to be inevitably the best most superior government right?

Ok, well, let’s look at the governments of the traditional “white homeland” aka western/northern Europe. Let’s see, what Americans would call… Socialist, Socialist, Socialist, hmm, let’s check Germany, racists have always felt they’ve always scored pretty high on the whole “white” thingy. Yep, Germany is Socialist too. Wide social safety nets, universal health insurance, big investments in green technology. I think I’m sensing a pattern here, according to his own racism we should be Socialist.

Then again, maybe the AP/New York Times just polled these folks pictured below. Maybe they just self identify as Black or something?

I’m wondering if these are not doctored pictures. Why would obviously white folks wear a " Hell yeah I’m black and I like Trump" T-shirt? Was that all the free Trump stuff they could get or they were out of their usual ones? Something doesn’t make sense but I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised these days.

I know, I know. How dare he follow the law, instead of just doing what you demand. Heresey!

On Friday, Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said he heard from Georgians concerned over the inability to match signatures during the hand recount audit of five million ballots.

“The Georgians I have heard from are extremely concerned about this, so I encourage Secretary Raffensperger to consider addressing these concerns,” he said. “It seems simple enough to conduct a sample audit of signatures on the absentee ballot envelopes and compare those to the signatures on applications and on file at the Secretary of State’s Office.”

Well that sounds far more productive than simply recounting. I wonder why this isn’t a standard part of the auditing process? It won’t convince everyone, but it would be an effort to calm some concerns. Certainly, if you have faith in the integrity of the system, you wouldn’t object to this, right?

Basic lack of knowledge of how elections work. After signatures are matched, the ballot is separated from the envelope (actual votes are anonymous and all…).

Michigan they have been clear the law requires certification before they have legal authority to audit. What’s being similarly also demanded (with no legal basis, no indications of irregularities or fraud) in Michigan is illegal. Surprised if Georgia doesn’t have similar (but every state is different and maybe they even define different things as audits. )

Why would obviously white folks wear a " Hell yeah I’m black and I like Trump" T-shirt?

I’d go with being intentionally inflammatory, similar to the “F your feelings” shirts that Trump supporters had in 2016.

You’re deflecting. If someone is truly focused on preventing fraud, I’d expect reviewing that the votes being cast were cast by those eligible to cast them would be as important of a step as recounting the votes.

If it’s about the legal process, then how about stating that a review of signatures will occur when the process indicates it should occur? Rather than just screaming “BASELESS!” and insisting there’s no reason to do it?

"At one recount table, a Trump observer objected to every ballot that tabulators pulled from a bag simply because they were folded, election officials told the panel.

Posnanski called it “prima facie evidence of bad faith by the Trump campaign.” He added later: “I want to know what is going on and why there continues to be obstruction.”"

“At least one Trump observer was escorted out of the building by sheriff’s deputies Saturday after pushing an election official who had lifted her coat from an observer chair. Another Trump observer was removed Friday for not wearing a face mask properly as required.”

"After appearing to acquit themselves rationally following a controversial White House meeting with President Donald Trump on Friday, Michigan’s lawmakers were photographed celebrating maskless and downing pricey Dom Perignon champagne in the Trump International Hotel.

Voters erupted, and “Dom Perignon” was quickly trending on Twitter. The bottles go for $500 to $950 each at the hotel, and if it was a treat from Trump, they were likely on an expense account paid for by taxpayers — state, or federal.

Michigan, meanwhile, suffered through 10,000 new cases of COVID-19 Friday — and 53 deaths."

No, it’s a crime to ask about whether bribery has occurred or not! Pay attention!

Wow. How terrible. State leaders went to Washington, met with the President, and had dinner/drinks at their hotel.

That was what this article was reporting. But that isnt even worth an article at all, so the rest was “Trump sucks, so we’ll make up a lot of speculation to illustrate why”.

That is what the entire impeachment exercise was about…

At the president’s personal business. Sure they could have paid out of pocket and the hotel could have segregated gross income from the transaction (spoiler alert, despite promises to do so, it has not…). But the prior post by xerty claimed it was somehow illegal for the Michigan AG to look into it to determine if they did or not…
