Well Biden kinda started this with his “office of the pres-elect” in advance of the states final counts.
Either way, I read the news with some interest on how Trump appears to be talking down the prospect of a new political party (Patriot Party, MAGA Party, etc) in recent days. I suspect this is specifically tied to convincing existing R senators and R party leaders that they will not be challenged / have their support fractured if they vote against the impeachment; likewise, if they vote for the impeachment, he could follow thru with his threats and run a 2nd Conservative party that would split the right wing vote and run many of these guys out of office.
Trump had an Office of the President-Elect before he took office in 2017. Biden is not the first to use the title. It is an informal title for a transition team. Try looking things up up before spreading false information.
Office of the Former President is a different kettle of fish.
I disagree with those who cite Belknap as historical precedent for the present, ongoing, bogus Senate trial.
Belknap resigned in order to avoid prosecution.
President Trump served out his term and left office only thereafter.
It’s not the same thing at all.
In addition, this trial’s bogosity ramped up considerably when Roberts refused to preside. Of course, true to his cowardly nature, the Chief Justice flatly refused to announce the reason for his recusal, lest Trump’s case be bolstered.
I do offer Roberts some respect, though. I doubted he would have the cajones to do the right thing, and I was wrong.
Just ahead of the Senate vote Rand Paul said: “I want this body on record, every last person here : Is this how you think politics should be?”
“Democrats insist on applying a test of incitement to a Republican that they refuse to apply to themselves,” he said. “I want Democrats to raise their hands if they have ever given a speech that says ‘take back,’ ‘fight for your country,’ who hasn’t used the words fight figuratively?”
He went on to say, “Are we going to put every politician in jail – are we going to impeach every politician who has used the word “fight” figuratively in a speech? Shame!”
The ensuing 55-45 vote showed Trump will be acquitted beyond any doubt.
So why continue with an unconstitutional charade?
Hatred. Unvarnished hatred for Trump is the only possible explanation. Otherwise why not get on with the real business of the American people? But, no. Even in the middle of a devastating pandemic, hatred for Trump eclipses everything else. High school students are smarter than this.
And Biden’s call for “unity” so clearly has fallen on deaf ears. His own Democrats want to go forward with this foolish trial even when it is crystal clear there is zero chance for success, so intense and uncontrollable is their hatred.
Trump shouldn’t be running for office again. That’s actually good even for the GOP. They only need 51 votes for that, and it seems they’ll have more than 51.
It is true enough that just 51 votes are required to disqualify within the current, ongoing, impeachment framework. But it is important you understand the following:
Disqualification is a penalty which can only be invoked following a finding of guilt.
Thus, in the absence of 67 votes in favor of “guilty”, the Senate can never get to a vote for or against disqualification.
There clearly are not 67 Senators willing to find Trump guilty. That being the case, disqualification is off the table.
Can you feel the unity? Have you come together to bind the nation’s wounds?
Have you renounced your white privilege? Your unconscious bias probably hasn’t been eradicated in the last week, so it will need attention. But don’t worry. If you work in the federal government, you’ll soon have the opportunity—sorry, obligation—to get that fixed with a series of bias-elimination sessions. If you work for a large company, you’ve probably already watched the videos, so you’ve no excuses for continuing not to recognize that America’s foundational malignity is all your fault.

I am old enough to remember after 9/11 when Dems and the media said that we could not blame an entire group of people for the atrocities on that day but now it is ok for the media to blame 74 million people for actions of a couple hundred yahoos at the Capital.
I assume you’re referring to the 14th Amendment, Section 3, which is unrelated to the current, ongoing, impeachment about which harish7631 wrote.
A Section 3 disqualification would be a complex undertaking requiring, among other things, an act of Congress. It’s not going to happen, though I would not say a try by insane Democrats, following failure of their current impeachment debacle, is impossible. Lunacy, after all, is an important aspect of their stock in trade.
There’s not much lower than attacking a survivor of a school shooting that killed 17 people, and wounded 17 others who is speaking out against school shootings. During the attack he was directed to a classroom closet with other students and a teacher and recorded on his cellphone to leave a record in case they didn’t survive.
Marjorie Greene: Pro school shootings and apparently in favor of giving dangerous people guns.
“The benefits include a “suitable office space,” Secret Service protection, around $100,000 per year to help cover the cost of a staff and a pension currently worth around $220,000 per year.”
It’s government welfare for someone who doesn’t need the money, is extremely corrupt, never did any work, and stirred up racial hatred and anti-Democratic attacks against America.
