It’s only proof that it shouldn’t be over the counter left for people to freely self-administer because you know they’ll screw up. You cannot “Did I take my daily dose today? Oh I’ll just have another just in case” with HCQ.
The other part about the recommendation that it’s ok to not wear masks in some situations, is along the same lines. You cannot trust people to have consistent good judgment, not mess up frequently, and/or hear only what they want to hear. It’s much simpler to tell them: Ok wear a mask any time you go out of your home instead of giving them a more accurate but complex message that they’ll interpret who knows how and apply wrongly in many cases. I still recall that short video of a lady coming to a convenience store with a mask cut-open around the mouth and nose to allow easier breathing as proof of some people not thinking straight.
P.S.: For the record, I’m fine with over the counter HCQ access as long as there is enough supply for people to whom it was prescribed. After that, let natural selection run its course.
Oh, I understand the idiot factor. But no one argues that there’s too many stupid people without the common sense to use their own discretion. It’s always “But you’re just trying to kill my grandma, you heartless bastard!”. The ability to apply reason and common sense is what’s being considered the idiocy.
Indoors there’s not much room for “common sense”. The reason common sense doesn’t work is because it’s NOT a personal risk decision. An individual’s actions affect everyone else.
Masks are not a substitute for social distancing, I don’t think there’s ever been missed messaging on this point. That means, no, they’re not just within 6 feet (that would be the case only IF they were a substitute) – they’re for all common areas so there is less contanimation risk for everyone else who will go through or interact with the common areas.
Not surprising the aerosol statements have been so sluggish coming out… Means HVAC in office buildings is a bigger deal (even for non-common areas) and makes WFH-if-possible a bigger corporate responsibility. At least in higher-skill situations where the employees aren’t broke and are a flight risk if they feel the employer doesn’t care about their or their families’ safety.
Columbus statue removed from state Capitol Rotunda, which was his home since 1882. They say the statue faced renewed calls for removal amid protests over racial inequality. Native American leaders say the statue glorifies a man who never stepped foot in the state–and who they say was responsible for centuries of genocide & colonization in North America.
In early June, a statue of CA settler John Sutter was winched away from Sutter’s Fort. On Saturday, protesters tore down a statue of Junipero Serra - a pioneer of the Spanish mission system and a saint.
So on & on the protesters march with their so called peaceful mission. As far as I can see it’s all a disgraceful pledge to tear down & disregard our social system.
Any state under the leadership of the reckless, left wing hateful liberal democrats can never be happy. They’re constantly striving for discord. (my opinion)
To paraphrase - “Y’all just need to go back to Europe”. Because you can harp on the face all you want, someone was going to fill that place in history or America wouldn’t exist today.
That is astonishing stuff, pattyb53!! I’m not a Californian. But even to me that sounds like cultural revolution . . . and not at all some kind of legitimate protest over Mr. Floyd’s murder.
But nobody anywhere appears to be opposing the hoodlums, so they just do whatever they want. Republicans in particular are overwhelmingly cowed. And Democrats of course are with the hoodlums . . . heck . . . they ARE the hoodlums!
We can only pray for a Trump victory in November. Otherwise it’s gonna be akin to watching a sinking ship, our country, slip slowly down into and then descending beneath the ocean’s surface. There will be nothing left of America the Beautiful we once cherished . . . . but which they certainly do NOT!!
I kind of disagree. Trump losing will likely put an end to most of this stuff, because it’ll be seen as the ultimate victory - then everyone will quickly lose interest. Seeing and hearing Trump in charge every day is a big (perhaps the only) reason this is all still going on as it is.
Once Trump loses, we’ll just go back to giving away stuff to poor people to buy their votes…
Glad I’m not cowardly, I’m a brave American. I can’t imagine what it would be like to cower in a corner all day long afraid of imaginary bogeymen.
Yes, change is ScARy…
Changing artwork on display in public spaces over time is normal, it doesn’t mean the sky is falling. You have such a problem with elected officials representing their constituents and changing artwork on display?
The quote you replied to was not referring to citizen vigilantes vandalising statues.
I strongly suspect my memory goes back a great deal further than does your own. I can remember when this was truly a great country. I was there and I lived it. This current ongoing insanity is the creation of liberals like yourself. You will never experience the great America it was my privilege to enjoy. Your only salvation is your albeit false certainty that I am wrong. Lots of luck with thirty trillion dollars of debt. You richly deserve the world you have brought into being. I would LMAO at your stupidity . . . except I so love the America which once was, something you will never experience.
Be aware Trump is only a figurehead . . a surrogate . . and certainly one who is imperfect.
The real “reason this is all still going on” is tens of millions of people like me. We are calling BS on the liberal tripe in its entirety. We know it is a failed ideology, one which paves only the road to perdition. That is not a road any of us wishes to travel.
Lol. You’re correct. Large debt increases for “41”, even before 2020 spending (not shown in chart). But I guess we could go with the bankruptcy plan, since 41 has so much experience running companies into bankruptcy while fleecing them. 41 was already “President Spend”, we’d previously only had the large spend increases when counteracting depressions. The roaring economy he inherited had provided an opportunity to actually make a dent in the debt. Discussion again only on before the increases during botched covid-19 (lack-of) response.
Oh right, the go-to line: "The campaign promise to eliminate the national debt was obviously just ‘a joke’! "
Back in the day a very wise old Republican Senator from Illinois, Senator Everett Dirksen, said the following:
“A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.”
Today there are no longer Republican Senators elected from Illinois and the entire state is a woeful basket case. Senator Dirksen, were he alive today, would be nonplussed by the size of the debt.
The Senator also said:
“When all is said and done, the real citadel of strength of any community is in the hearts and minds and desires of those who dwell there.”
“But the basic difficulty still remains: It is the expansion of Federal power, about which I wish to express my alarm. How easily we embrace such business.”
“We are becoming so accustomed to millions and billions of dollars that ‘thousands’ has almost passed out of the dictionary.”
“I have said, with respect to authorization bills, that I do not want the Congress or the country to commit fiscal suicide on the installment plan.”
I remember Senator Dirksen quite well. He was part of that American greatness which no longer exists.
Sounds like you weren’t paying attention. Maybe it was great for YOU, but it was never great for EVERYONE who has lived here, especially blacks. Actually probably everyone who isn’t white and christian.
Floridaman:
“I feel threatened (by an old lady)!!!”
Hopefully he gets help with his fear. Maybe he’ll claim it’s a disability-protected firing after the psychiatrist visits.
Edit: waiting for the outraged reply that it’s “not fair” to fire someone for being an ass outside of work and creating negative publicity for the company.
It’s not fair for you to single out black people. There were, indeed, people of all races who were less successful. Sadly, fear of failure is a necessary motivator if a society as a whole is to reach its highest potential. And for failure to be feared it must actually exist as a threat.
Think “carrot and stick”. Fear of failure is the stick. The kind of opportunity for success our country offers those who work hard is the carrot. Many people of all races succeed here. But not when they lay back lazily in anticipation of being able to steal a portion of another person’s hard work.
While liberals were quicker to look at pleasant images, like a happy child or a cute bunny rabbit, conservatives tended to behave oppositely.
liberals owned more books and travel-related items, conservatives had more things that kept order in their lives, like calendars and cleaning supplies.
Oh my freaking FSM, I feel like they’ve just peered into my soul. I should probably update the privacy thread to let everyone know if they don’t want to have their political leanings instantly identified by house guests, they need to balance travel books and memorabilia and cute bunnies with calendars, weapon displays, and cleaning supplies
Day? Perhaps not in a day or in a short time. But we already have gone through eight years of the Obama scourge, managing to avoid four more under Hillary merely by the skin of our teeth. Four years under Biden will only be four more leading us in the wrong direction. Rome fell. So can the USA. And the coup de grâce always comes from within.
