Yes, I certainly agree.
Discussing politics with close family members can also cause problems. Yes, best to just go to other discussion topics.
But here, we can go at it. Don’t know anyone personally & best to stay that way.

Sad workplace and coworker quality where this is the environment. Agreed it does make sense to avoid in most situations.
Yes, not discussing politics with friends and family causes problems. We end up with people listening to their choice of talking heads on TV rather than actually thinking about and reasoning through issues that are important, and almost everyone sticks to their own echo chamber. And we end up with a mess of public governance like we have now.
Successful democracy requires public discourse, not avoiding discussion because people are all morons.
Wow!! Barr just made news. There is a SECOND US prosecutor looking into the many unmaskings.
Everyone already is aware of Durham. This newly (just) announced guy is in Texas.
The Democrats are not gonna be happy about this.
You must have a highly enlightened friends-and-family inner circle. My niece, a champagne socialist, blocks relatives and ends friendships with colleagues who disagree with her political views. I know not to discuss anything political with her or her husband… and I’m an independent that criticizes all sides.
This Barr event before the House Judiciary Committee is must see TV. I hope everyone is watching. Democrat insanity is self-evident, rampant, and is on full display. If these people gain power it’s all over.
The only Democrat so far even half way sane is Val Demings. There go her hopes to become VP!
They are going after AG Barr hammer and tongs, shouting him down, not even allowing him opportunity to respond to their questions.
Democrats: WABOA
ETA
Just now the Democrats would not even allow AG Barr a 5 minute break so he could use the men’s room!! Their hatred is on full display and is so thick you would need a sharp knife to cut through it.
It’s over!!
Now the mainstream media liberal reporters are jumping all over Barr and his testimony. Course they are even more hardened Democrats than the Democrat members of the committee.
What a spectacle!!

“Is it ever appropriate for a president to solicit or accept foreign assistance in an election?”
“… It depends on what kind of assistance.”
That is BS
Of course it is. Softball question. Doesn’t depend.
At least the second time (specifically about ANY kind of assistance) he finally answered it was not acceptable.
I disagree. Reasonable people can disagree about almost everything. I mean if you work at NASA or SpaceX and you’re a flat-earther, then sure, that’s poor worker quality. But not if it has nothing to do with your work AND it can lead to undue tension AT WORK, which would make it a sad workplace. Without the tension it’s a happier workplace.
With friends and family, sure. Not with co-workers if the work is not related to the subject.
But reasonable people can also discuss and disagree and not lead to conflict.
Sure, but first you must be sure that both you and your co-worker is reasonable enough to not let the discussion lead to conflict or tension. You have to know someone really well, and even then you could be wrong. Someone could be reasonable in some subjects and a total nut in others.
With friends and family it’s usually easier, and even disagreements could be smoothed over (worst case by agreeing to disagree and never bring it up again). It’s much more problematic when livelihood is on the line.
Yes, usually with family it’s best to forget & not bring it up again.
We usually have a family get together for Thanksgiving at son & daughter-in-laws home. I have 2 son’s & they were raised with husband & my political views. But at the gathering DIL usually invites her old friends with completely opposite political thinkings. Right off the bat, her friend wants to talk politics, wrong----. After a couple episodes I usually go outside & talk to the dog.
But I felt some joy when Thanksgiving 2016, I could mention how happy I was about the election.
So I’m sure friend will be there this year. Oh happy day when POTUS wins again…
If he wins again, I’m canceling Thanksgiving ![]()
Every holiday for the next four years will be Halloween.
He already cancelled it through negligence. The election won’t affect it one way or the other. Not much chance the virus will be under control by November, at least in most of the country.
That was me.
As a political minority at work in times of heightened political tensions, it sucks, no two ways about it. I’ve explicitly chosen not to discuss my political views at work because they skew conservative and I work in high tech. A clear majority of my coworkers openly espouse liberal viewpoints in settings like meetings and make it clear they do not welcome people challenging their views.
I am 100% certain that working relationships with people that are critical to getting my job done would be destroyed if I were to speak out in the manner that some of my coworkers have. Diversity of thought is something that is lost on both the left and Trump’s cohort.
This gets especially tricky to navigate when your employer starts to weigh in on the matter, trying to espouse shared company values through political platforms you do not agree with.
I just keep my mouth shut, be the bigger person, and do the best that I can at my job. I just shake my head when asked about world events and that seems to placate people for now.
