As the above quote says, the problem isnt the dollar amount, it’s that they’re setting a dollar amount then deciding what pet projects to allocate it towards. There’s no denying our infrastructure is crumbling due to age and decades of neglect; $3.5B isnt all that unreasonable if it is being spent on projects that actually build out, upgrade, and maintain our roads, bridges, electrical grid, etc, etc.
Instead lots of it will be spend on stuff like demonstrating how it’s the priviledge white racist 2nd grader’s fault that their black classmate answered 2+2=5 on an assessment test.
“Fault” implies that 2+2=5 is wrong. Since it’s not, your premise doesn’t make any sense. And don’t even think about asking anyone on the left to explain that. It’s not their responsibility to educate you.
It feels like ages ago, but I remember a year ago when the Legacy Media couldn’t stop injecting the covid death counts into all their daily news coverage, noting every “grim milestone” when a round number was passed, and, most importantly, reminding us how it was All Trump’s Fault for being elected and, even worse, threatening to be re-elected. For example,
We can’t let ourselves get numb to this moral and leadership failing. We must double down on efforts to stop the virus
In that spirit, I wanted to make sure Biden’s leadership was given its due. Despite the heroic vaccine successes and rollouts under Trump’s Warp Speed plan, we have continued to have growing deaths from covid. When Biden took over in mid Jan, the cumulative US death count was around 400k. Now we’ve reached nearly 650k, over 200k additional deaths on Biden’s watch in the last 7 months.
By the 2022 midterms, at the current rate of over 1000 covid deaths per day, Biden will have killed more Americans with his covid policies than Trump did and that’s with the benefit of highly effective vaccines. Credit where credit is due.
I wanted Trump to win the election and I think Biden is a skunk, responsible for the deaths of our soldiers in Afghanistan. Straight up, he is an idiot. However:
For some reason I do not credit Biden with the ongoing COVID-19 catastrophe since he took office. I never blamed Trump, either, for what happened last year. I blame the virus itself. It is the virus from hell, a gift to the entire world from the Chinese. I certainly blame the Chinese.
Between the original strain, and lately the delta variant, and soon (I hope not) the emerging mu variant, this virus far exceeds the ability of any leader to deal with it effectively or decisively. Even if either Trump or Biden had done better, I think the virus still would have overwhelmed us. I’m not certain we ever will be able to stamp it out. If we are, it won’t be soon.
Yes, of course that’s the sensible approach to thinking about the situation. The virus won’t be going away.
We can see the Australian approach of early, hard closed borders, which could have been done here by a more cautious, proactive government, is now failing under the increasingly contagious variants. But if the US had done something like that, at least it would have bought valuable time to get vaccines developed and into most people. That would probably have saved 90% or so of those who lost their lives.
Some of us have been saying that for a year and a half. But instead of protecting the vulnerable and otherwise letting it burn itself out before developing variants, we just keep retreating and giving it free reign over all aspects of our lives.
Remember, back then a vaccine was dismissed as a pipe dream, since it would take years to safely develop to the point of widespread use.
I will be fascinated by the coverage of this trial by the left media. Holmes is going to play the victim woman card but are we allowed to say that nowadays? A straight woman doesn’t rank very high on the intersectionality scale. I wonder how her lawyer will refer to her during the trial?
What will Holmes’ defense look like? Unsealed court filings suggest her lawyers will portray Holmes as a victim, manipulated emotionally and sexually by an older and wiser Balwani.
As an aside, the old hair sniffer got taken in by her also
then-Vice President Joe Biden toured the Theranos lab in Newark, California in 2015, telling reporters “this is inspiration. It is amazing to me, Elizabeth, what you’ve been able to do. What’s most impressive to me is you’re not only making these lab tests more accessible… empowering people whether they live in the barrio or a mansion, putting them in a position to help take control of their own health.”
No disrespect. But recall how President Trump was castigated and belittled by the Democrats when he belatedly (in my opinion) closed off visitors from China. And all the while they were in process of impeaching him as well!!
The problem with the variants is they are emerging in any number of foreign countries. Only way to stem the tide would be to cut off foreign travel almost 100%. And that is an impossibility.
This new mu variant, for example . . . . . 36% of the cases in Columbia are mu. How, as a practical matter, do you keep that out? And that is only a single example of something happening worldwide.
The Democrat operator with a byline, Daniel Funke, was hammered for playing the victim in a typical leftist ploy. The leftist newspaper admitted it’s fact check claiming that Biden did not check his watch was false but then changed its ruling to “missing context”. After admitting he “made an error” he writes this sob story:
It’s easy to dunk on journalists when we get things wrong. I get it – to many, we’re just another name on a screen. But behind that screen is a person trying to do their best.”
The Post continues
Some gave Funke credit for his mea culpa. But others suggested it was another liberal-media attempt to protect Biden.
“With all due respect, Mr. Funke, your ‘fact check’ carried a direct implication that grieving, gold star families had LIED with their first-hand testimony of the events. Keep your ‘we regret the error’ and apologize, unequivocally, directly TO THEM,” radio host Larry O’Connor told Funke.
With excess unemployment benefits finally ending, I wanted to post my PERSONAL advice to persons now squawking because the gravy train has at last come to an end. This will be familiar to the over-75 crowd. For younger participants here, this might be a first:
“This is a white supremacist country,” AOC continued, “so we know that free and fair elections without any fraud will lead to more white supremacists being elected. White supremacists like Larry Elder. Like, I literally can’t even.”
I suspect the $1.5T he’ll support is the same $1.5T virtually everyone would support if able to vote on it by itself. And it’s the same $1.5T that Democrats will put up as examples of things the Republicans are obviously “against”, when they dont vote for the $3.5T+ total bill (ignoring that it was the other $2T+ that forced them to vote against it).
