Debate tonight, unusual terms

https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/cnn-debate-trump-biden-06-27-24/index.html

BREAKING: CNN will implement a 1-2 minute delay for tonight’s presidential debate instead of the standard 7-second delay, potentially allowing time to edit parts of the broadcast.

Or it’s to accomodate all their incompetent diversity hires who grew up always getting more time on tests…

lol. here’s the debate live link

and here’s a much funnier version

Alexander: Mr. Trump, you’ve been accused of being one of the chief spreaders of misinformation, both personally and through your website Truth Social. What do you have to say for yourself?

Trump: So who cares about the literal truths? … We need to re-mythologize the world! …

If I’m elected president, I plan to double down on this. I will spread rumors of griffons in the Rocky Mountains, allude to unspeakable things beneath the deserts of Nevada, and question whether the Gateway Arch in St. Louis is a mystical portal to dream-realms beyond the setting sun. Not because any of these things are true. But because they are more than true. They’re what makes this country great.

I like how they all agree on topics for weird very educated reasons, Trump as an “election denier” denies the 2020 election even happened at all(!) due to some leap year related reasons, etc.

Media outlets not mincing words about Biden’s debate performance. Would dems move to change candidates at the top of the ticket?

Newsom/Whitmer for the win!?

Dr. Jill and/or Kamala beg to differ.

Vox’s article has nothing nice to insinuate about Kamala, that’s for sure.

Never ceases to amaze me what politicians and pundits do when the chips are down.

Great article for schadenfreude. Kicking Kamala aside would turn off Black women who are a crucial Democrat consituency.

Debate fallout. first the obvious if you watched

  • BIDEN’S DISASTROUS DEBATE ACCELERATES DOUBTS OVER CANDIDACY Biden misspoke numerous times, citing incorrect facts and figures from his first answer out of the gate. His remarks were soft-spoken, punctuated by sickly bouts of coughing, and meandering, prone to repetition. He…

Then his campaign’s response “it’s fine”

  • BIDEN: I THINK WE PERFORMED WELL IN DEBATE
  • BIDEN: I WOULDN’T RUN AGAIN IF I DIDN’T BELIEVE I COULD DO IT

  • BIDEN CAMPAIGN: BIDEN WILL BE THERE FOR SECOND DEBATE WITH TRUMP SEPT. 10
  • OBAMA ISSUES STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF BIDEN’S REELECTION BID

NYT was parroting the party line ("all those videos of Biden looking lost or freezing up were kinda “fake”, except they actually happened and we wish you hadn’t noticed), until they saw him last night with their own lying eyes and their Trump deranged brains just couldn’t take it anymore.

  • NY TIMES COLUMNISTS CALL ON BIDEN TO DROP OUT AFTER DEBATE Several leading columnists for The New York Times are urging President Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, citing his poor performance during Thursday night’s debate against former President Trump.…

Meanwhile, the betting markets for long Biden just went into free-fall, with both Trump and Newsom the apparent winners. The market odds went from 50-50 to about 60-30 for Trump, with 10% “someone else”.

My understanding of the intricacies of a Democratic convention where Biden steps down as the candidate after winning the primary election but before the nomination are definitely hazy, but in practice, I suspect it will be hard to pull off given his incumbent status and his campaign’s willingness to plow ahead.

Meanwhile, the SCOTUS will decide on Trump’s immunity to some legal stuff on this Monday, not that I suspect it will impact the election.

SCOTUS played it wise: timed their decision, whatever it is, until after the debate’s weekend.

BTW, me thinks the GOP will win big in November. There is a wave of protest votes sweeping Western nations, with large numbers of voters fed up with climate change, wokism, and illegal immigration. Just yesterday Canadian liberal politicians publically blamed Trudeau for taking the party too far left. As if those same politicians weren’t a few weeks ago asking for more climate change taxes and defending wokism.

More on this

While Biden could be challenged at the Democratic National Convention even if he stays in the race, almost all the party’s delegates are pledged to him. The party could change the rules beforehand to make replacing Biden easier, but this seems unlikely, unless the president bows out or shows yet more serious signs of decline in the interim.

The next step is the virtual roll call. Ohio law requires presidential nominees to be decided 90 days before the general election. Since the Democratic convention falls some 15 days after Ohio’s deadline, Democrats have planned to nominate Biden via a “virtual roll call.” If they abandon this approach, that could be an initial sign that they are planning an open convention.

Dems governors aren’t doing that well either. High crime, little accountability, a full-throttle homeless industrial complex rampant in their states. And the never ending tax mentality.

I suspect there are enough voters who don’t care about these issues and vote on looks alone . If Biden was too old to be president four years ago, then Trump is too old to be president now.

Also I think this “high crime” and “homeless industrial complex” is overblown in the right wing media. Just cause Oakland is a shithole doesn’t mean the rest of the state is that bad.

“Too old” was being charitable to Biden. Too senile is the problem, and one problem Trump doesn’t obviously have, at least not on display the other night. I mean, Trump walked off stage when it was over and Biden took his wife’s hand and very carefully stepped down a tiny step and looked worried.

He’s barely fit to walk unassisted, let alone lead the country. And speaking of leading the country and Our Democracy, this debate really calls into question what’s been going on these last few years. This was a good comment from elsewhere

debate revealed to the world that President Biden is mentally incompetent and that an unelected and unaccountable group of people is running the country, and likely has been running the country for some time. This unavoidable truth has likely doomed Biden’s 2024 campaign. However, it has likely also struck a crippling blow against the Democrat Party’s primary value proposition: “Democracy.”

The Democrat’s have made “Democracy” the party’s core identity, its primary rhetoric… they loudly and repeatedly insist that a vote for the Republicans is a vote “against Democracy” and will “end Democracy” in the United States. The rhetoric is existential, black and white, and leaves no room for maneuver.

If Joe Biden is mentally incompetent, then the only value of his candidacy lies in the proposition that the party will wield Biden’s executive power without his knowledge or control. But, according to the Democrats, being forced to vote for an unnamed, unelected cabal of unaccountable lobbyists, bureaucrats, and special interests is no vote at all. Indeed, it is anti-democratic according to the party’s own terms.

Trump clearly is what he’s always been, however you want to characterize it. Some would say his senility has been in question all along, but it isnt a new development even over the past decade.

If you want to get away with something, be the first one pointing fingers at someone else for that same thing…

I booked the Amtrak Cascades last week, departing and arriving at Portland Union Station. The city cleaned most of the visible encampments from the city center, except that the encampments transferred close to where Amtrak is located. I was scared walking the 7 or 8 blocks to get to Union Station. People screaming to themselves, a guy injecting his body already covered with the marks of previous injections, another guy walking to and fro wearing only a shirt and socks, human waste on the sidewalks. Most of the time I was walking on the street itself, trying to avoid the homeless and their possessions, lets them not think I’m trying to do them harm. I haven’t smelled those aromas in a public area since I left my country of birth decades ago. I was saddened and angry at the same time seeing what is happening.

Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, aren’t much better than Portland. This isn’t just about Oakland, which has the added problem of corruption in the mayor’s office. And no, I don’t watch Fox.

I’d rather vote for the unelected cabal of unaccountable lobbyists, bureaucrats, and special interests that support Democrats than an unelected cabal of unaccountable lobbyists, bureaucrats, and special interests that support Republicans. And the fact that I’m allowed to select my preferred cabal is Democracy.

The elections are and have always been about the party, not about any singular person. Except when that person is a power hungry monster who is single-handedly driving the agenda, like Trump.
