Why is it so quiet in here today? Seems like the newly released documents show the opposite of what the president said about Russia and China’s influence on the 2020 election.
I’m not so sure. The MI voting stuff sure looks like the FBI found fraud, and Biden DOJ shut down further investigation of it.
State investigators were estimated that between 8,000 to 10,000 voter registrations had been delivered by mail and by hand. (It should be noted that Muskegon City had a population of only 37,000 people per 2020 estimates.) Here is the link to the FBI’s Opening Electronic Communication.
The City’s Clerk determined that some (if not many) of the applications were fraudulent. The State’s investigation revealed that canvassers were paid to register voters in Michigan’s largest cities by reloadable debit cards. Canvassers refused to identify their employer to the authorities and changed their stories concerning whether they were paid for each completed form or paid hourly.
Another canvasser told the FBI that she suspected canvassers “might be forging signatures” based on the number of signed registration forms they were returning. Other interviewees stated that canvassers “would trade marijuana and/or money for voter registration applications.” Another canvasser stated that they were told by leadership – in a meeting with over 100 canvassers present – “if they couldn’t get enough applications, they should just fill them in.” Everyone at the organization, including its leadership, “was aware” the fraud was occurring.
How pervasive were the false signatures – or the applications for non-existent individuals? Nobody knows. The FBI investigation was hamstrung by DOJ leadership, leaving it unable to do a full accounting of the 8,000 to 10,000 applications submitted to the Muskegon City Clerk.
But it goes deeper than that. For the most part, the FBI’s investigation did not encompass other more populated jurisdictions within Michigan - namely Detroit. It seems that those at the DOJ Public Integrity Section didn’t want a true accounting of fraudulent voter applications and the absentee ballots that were issued (and submitted with votes) resulting from that fraud.

This week, Darializa Avila Chevalier was asked if there has ever been a “successful model of socialism anywhere in the world outside the United States in terms of both human rights and widespread economic justice.” The member of the Democratic Socialists of America responded by citing Sweden and Norway. It is a common false claim made by socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders and others. I address the claim head-on in Rage and the Republic.
Leaders such as Senator Bernie Sanders have heralded the alleged success of “democratic socialism” in Europe, a pitch that is obviously taking hold with many younger Americans. Sanders and others often refer to the prosperity of Scandinavian socialism, including Sweden and Norway. It is a dangerous myth that is promulgated by many in the media. The question is not whether Scandinavian socialism can work in the United States (it cannot) but whether Scandinavian socialism can work in Scandinavia. Sweden is a particularly curious choice as a model for democratic socialism. In reality, Sweden shows not only the success of capitalism but also the limits of socialism even in a relatively small nation. Sweden turned away from the type of socialist theories increasingly in vogue in the United States.

Countries like Denmark and Sweden are strong adherents to capitalist principles and are listed among the most capitalist nations on Earth. Indeed, leaders often express surprise by American references to their socialist principles. In 2015, the Danish Prime Minister Lars Rasmussen observed, “I know that some people in the U.S. associate the Nordic model with some sort of socialism. Therefore, I would like to make one thing clear. Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy.” Likewise, Social Democratic Minister of Finance Kjell‐Olof Feldt stated “That whole thing with democratic socialism was absolutely impossible. It just didn’t work.”

Not complete ownership, only partial, and limited to industries with a national interest in mind, such as natural resource extraction. Norway’s partial ownership (51%? I don’t remember) of the national oil company is the ideal example. This has been shown to work in certain situations, such as the auto industry bailout in 2008 signed by Bush and distributed by Obama’s administration, and Trump’s deal with Intel. I think Trump is the biggest proponent of this, by the way, and even though both of these examples were done with conservatives in charge, IMO these are non-partisan issues.
I did not read the whole post, only the quotes you provided, and they paint a false picture. Nobody says that strong capitalist principles and limited socialism cannot coexist. That is what exists in Scandinavia – it’s capitalism in business, and democratic socialism in government services. Nobody who is anybody is advocating for a socialist planned economy, that whole comparison is bullshit and misdirection (also that’s the definition of Communism, not Socialism). Also DSA is a nobody, they’re so small that their fringe positions (like abolishing Senate, borders, and prisons) aren’t even worth discussing, those are not serious positions that will keep the DSA small and unpopular, and gives Fox News fodder for spreading FUD to their viewers. The DSA’s major positions however, like the Green New Deal, free public education, and healthcare for all, are very popular. Did Fox ask about those? No? That’s how you know the narrative they’re pushing.

What would you call government run Grocery stores being set up by the DSA mayor of New York? It will be interesting to see what happens when these stores start to lose big money? Will New York require farmers to sell their groceries to the stores at a price set by the government?
This blanket statement is provably false. Under Communism, I agree, it’s a terrible idea, but that’s because Communism is a terrible idea, not Socialism. Plenty of examples from history – USSR, China, Venezuela. Without Communism, however, it works great. Norway gets 20-25% of its budget from government-owned or controlled enterprises. Russia gets about a third. Even in Switzerland, which has the second-highest global rating in the Index of Economic Freedom, the government owns a few enterprises like the rail, telecom, and postal service. The USPS is basically a government-owned enterprise, and it works incredibly well as far as I’m concerned.
Unrestrained capitalism is a terrible idea. That’s why we have (or used to have) anti-monopoly laws, the Sherman Act, FTC, FDIC, USDA, FCC, and a bunch of other government agencies to regulate and restrain the “free” market. Unrestrained socialism is also a terrible idea. I believe there is a sweet spot where both of them can coexist.
Government owned stores is not “socialist planned economy.” I call it an experiment, and it’s likely to fail in the long run (or at least it will have an opportunity cost, even if it’s not visible in the budget), but in the meantime it will provide some reprieve to the people who need it.

And yet when it comes to unnecessary wars (which is most of them since WWII) that most people do NOT love, there appears to be an infinite supply of other people’s money.
If only our government prioritized its’ own people like their slogans suggest (“America first”, “Make America Great Again”) over all else, they’d find the money.

Many of the wars, including the Iran war, are about defending the American people. The Iran Government rallies, repeatedly chanted death to America. Until President Trump stopped them, They were on their way to develop a nuclear weapon that they would use to attack America. Multiple administrations both Democrat and Republican warned about this, but no one until President Trump was willing to do anything about it.
That’s what the compulsive liar Trump might tell you, but I haven’t seen any credible evidence of this. It was my understanding that Iran had IEA inspectors up until Trump started attacking. Further, the initial bomber mission was separate from the current war. That was a one-time mission, and especially if it was as successful as they claimed, what our military is doing now does not appear to have anything to do with Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Even if that mission was a failure, as the intelligence community claimed, the current one is just bombing oil infrastructure, nothing to do with nuclear.
Speaking of developing nuclear weapons, Trump just gave Saudis the green light for enriching Uranium. The same Saudis that paid for 9/11.
What about the tons of highly enriched uranium that the Iranians are hiding around their country?
