No recent experience, but to indulge my paranoia - do you have a particular aversion to ACH with Andrews?
Now, to indulge my cynicism, were you trying to float the boat (fly a kite) for a day or two with the CD purchase?
There can be limited ACH options when needing to transfer funds between two specific banks. Especially $50k+. And the ACH process, depending on the specific setup, can take up to a week anyways, even before considering maybe needing to use a third intermediary bank or break it into many smaller transfers over multiple days.
Even these days, sometimes a paper check can still be the path of least resistence.
