Most of what I have are 10+ years old, and are no longer nationally available. Nothing too great, mostly 2-3%, although one remains at over 4%.
Aren’t you a member at Keesler? Just open one there. Although their account terms specifically call out expecting an ongoing pattern of usage, so you’d probably want to spread out the transactions some.
I rushed over to take a look. 3% max $25k.
Wow, Thanks glitch. I’m going to check this one out tomorrow. Probably same 10 debit + whatever.
It’s 12, not 10. And maybe it’s just me, but I always go beyond the minimum by a transaction or two.
I’m not that great at math but. Keesler deal is probably best.
$25k@3%+ $25k@1.4% as apposed to my other deal $50k@1.76%
I had planned to open $50k all along. Now by going Keesler, I might as well open 2 of $25k @3%. Of course I don’t if 2 are allowed. But if manageable it will mean 24 debit transactions. ![]()
I don’t make a lot of purchases from Amazon but generally make 1-2 orders a month so what I do is add my debit card for the rewards checking account to my Amazon profile and then each month I go to:
and simply reload my gift card balance with $1, $2, $3 transactions using my debit card to meet the requirement of x number of debit transactions. I don’t do all $1 transactions but probably could. Then when I go to place an actual order on Amazon, I just use my gift card balance to pay. Easy peasy. I’ve also done a bunch of $1 and $2 transactions at the gas station pump or at self checkout in the grocery store but honestly Amazon reloads are much simpler.
Actually with Keeser you get a bonus with their Reward Checking Account - when you meet the requirements to earn the 3% on up to 25k in checking, you automatically also earn 1% on up to 150k in the Reward Savings account that is linked. Now 1% obviously isn’t that great especially when they’re offering the 1.4% or 1.5% for the next 6 months but with the way rates are going, that 1% may actually come in handy at some point. Sure wish I had joined back when it was easy to get in.
Are you not a member of Keesler FCU? You have all the info.
As mentioned, eligibility for Keesler is a moving target. How i got in last winter is no longer an option today.
No, just took a look at it when @glitch99 posted about it and tried to find a way to join but can’t find a way unfortunately. The 1.4% or 1.5% is not useful to me but the rewards accounts would be.
I’m not a fan of double-dipping. There are other options out there that have the same requirements.
24 debit purchase requirements? That’s nearly how many debit cards I have for Rewards Checking accounts ![]()
Just a piece of the fine print (I dont recall if this applied to Keesler or not) - some count all purchases with the debit card, other banks only count “signature” purchases. On Amazon, you need to edit your payment method and remove the “process as debit” flag to get a ‘signature’ purchase.
Probably just as well I stick with the one Keesler reward acct. Those debit requirements may be more trouble than I care to go through. Anyway I’m new at using a debit card. Most people use them all the time. When charging I only use my Citi Double Cash card.
It’s only trouble if you make it trouble.
It’s plastic, and is used like any other plastic you’ve had. Except it is tied to your $25k deposit balance - there is fraud protection, and daily transaction limits, but it’ll be a while before fraud attempts are declined for an insufficient balance. Which is why even though the want you to use your card as your daily spender, it’s not advised to carry it regularly.
And please - because I know you like to call to ask questions - just open the account and trust it’ll work out. If you need to ask for your account number for ACH pushes, fine, but don’t call to ask them if you can buy $1 Amazon gift cards or pay your cable bill in $1 increments to get the required transaction count.
Thanks for the wonderful Keesler card advice.
I’ve got the acct opened now with $25 from my HIMMA+ acct. I’ll ACH the $24975 into acct tomorrow. That can count for the 1 ACH for Sept & I’ll wait for the debit card to come in the mail.
Then I’m off to the race. ![]()

HMBradley – Start saving your way to 3% APY
Havent tried. I don’t see a way in.
Well, it’s the first of the month:
Northern Bank appears to be holding.
There was a small cut at Alliant.
And that 1.4% APY on the Keesler HIMMA Plus came through as promised and is, by comparison with what’s available elsewhere now on liquid funds, darn nice!
All in all, things could be worse. The future belongs to those who prepare for it.
