Does the coronavirus merit investment, or personal, concern or consideration?

I’m unable to respect Bill Gates’ predictive capability:

It was 1995 and I was just getting up and going on the internet which had sort of pulled me out of retirement, in a sense, as I had given up all the technical stuff years prior out of boredom. But I thought the internet was pretty amazing so I decided to jump back in.

Anyway, I remember quite well Bill Gates in 1995 opining that it was the desktop that was the future of computers, NOT the internet.

I disagreed, I ignored his prediction then, and I continue to ignore his predictions today.

Of course anyone who ever tried to use Windows 95 to access the net probably understands why Gates expressed back then the opinion he did. :grinning:

My state is going to open up vaccines to teachers in the next couple week, “to help get students back into the classroom safely”.

Ignoring the fact that vaccinating the teachers helps to get the teachers back into the classrooms safely (and doesn nothing for the students), I feel this initiative sends mixed messages to all the K-5 students in the state who have been attending full-week classes for months already…

yes he was wrong and it actually affected my career prospects. I attended MSFT recruiting meeting and his desktop future mantra was repeated there :frowning: I drank the kool aid :frowning: It wasn’t until he+Balmer left that MSFT took off.

I’m curious to see if any vax. people have similar poor outcome. I know SA stopped AZN but will do JNJ Vax.

K-5 students are a relatively safe cohort. Same class etc vs moving around and more adult like behavior in HS

Thank fully most AZ districts followed the science starting fall 2020. (way before even the CDC released the guidelines this year)

Yeah, I know. But in a prepared announcement, I’d think they’d be a little more aware of the wording.

And I’m curious how this guy got COVID twice! He’s prolly going to those 100 person orgies I recently heard about on the teevee.

If I’m gonna get covid, that’s how I want to get it! Of course I might want vaccines for a few other things I’d rather not get there either, but retroviruses are a whole lot trickier than coronaviruses…

Why Israel is ahead on vaccines and the EU hasn’t started? They paid up for early supply.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government secured eight million doses of the Pfizer vaccine and six million of Moderna’s, in advance deals that reportedly offered double what European countries paid to ensure a reliable supply. He has promised full immunization by March.

Have you concerns about contracting the COVID-19 virus? Here is some timely counsel for you:

Take whatever COVID vaccine you can get.

Interesting stuff.

When it comes to COVID-19 vaccines, time is the most important factor. Every day that passes without getting vaccinated is a day where you have a higher risk of getting infected, becoming seriously ill and dying. Whatever benefit you think you might get from waiting for the “best” vaccine isn’t worth the risk you take on while waiting. The best thing you can do is get vaccinated as soon as you’re able with whichever vaccine is available to you first.

Sounds right, this guy was in his 50’s.

At a party for 75+ year olds, a common risk factor is vintageviruses.

oops, fixed. Fauci saying May/June for general public now, pushed back a month.

“I was hoping that that would be by the end of April, namely, have gone through all the priorities and now say, OK anyone can get it,” Fauci said. “That was predicated on J&J, the Johnson product, having considerably more doses than now we know they’re going to have.”

“So, that timeline will probably be prolonged, maybe into mid- to late May and early June” Fauci said.
