Does the coronavirus merit investment, or personal, concern or consideration?

The article doesn’t delve into the details, but I believe there’s a simple solution – hire back the employees at <=25% reduced salary. PPP loan forgiveness requires not cutting wages “by more than 25% for any employee that made less than $100K annualized in 2019” (source). You can still file for unemployment insurance if your hours are reduced due to COVID-19, at least in CA (this may be state-specific, I don’t know). Further, it’s also my understanding that the $600 from the CARES act is paid in full if your are eligible for a single dollar of UI, at least in CA (source) but I’m pretty sure it’s the same in all states.

So it would be in many small business employees’ interest to have their hours reduced just enough to qualify for at least $1 of state UI, which would get them $601 extra per week. On the one hand this was a huge mistake in the CARES Act, but on the other the Act along with actions by the FED helps the rich much more than it helps the poor.

Cu-mo is really incensed about McConnell refusing a bailout and demanding NY, and other blue state losers, go bankrupt.

Have to say I’m with McConnell on that one. Now maybe if Cu-mo and his blue state buddies give up their asinine sanctuary state and sanctuary city policies, and begin cooperating with Federal authorities to rid their blue paradises of illegal alien criminals, I might be persuaded to reevaluate the situation.

Don’t think that will happen, though. Cu-mo and his buddies don’t have the sense they were born with. And I do not support use of MY tax money to coddle their beloved criminals, here illegally. So let 'em all declare bankruptcy. It’s fine with me.

My problem is that reports like this make it seem completely unforeseeable. I’ve had to bring it up numerous times as larger employers shed employees rather than maintain payroll - regardless of what you consider the “honorable” thing for employers to do, a lot of those employees being “screwed” by penny-pinching business are actually coming out ahead.

That should’ve been the very first takeaway when this relief bill was first passed 3 weeks ago.

In North Carolina this week:

Also Tuesday, Gov. Roy Cooper signed an executive order to let temporarily furloughed employees receive unemployment benefits, even if they’re also getting voluntary payments from their employer.

So I guess that means we’re funding the PPP loan forgiveness to maintain payrolls, and also unemployment to those same workers for not actually working while still getting paid?

All these people still going to work every day for their near-minimum wage paychecks have got to be getting really pissed by now… Usually I dismiss such complaints as self-entitled BS, but the government is building quite the case for them.

I don’t like sanctuary policies myself but feel this issue of illegal immigration goes beyond blue vs red states. I lived in Texas for awhile years ago. Texas is a red state, just like Iowa or Oklahoma. There are plenty of illegal immigrants working in the fields, construction, meat packaging plants, etc. Those who benefit from the cheap labor won’t say a thing even if they’re conservatives. What will happen when it’s red state that’s on the brink of bankruptcy? Would you then decide that some states/cities should be bailed out while others should go under depending on their historical political voting?

Where is my Stimulus payment?
You are eligible, payment not processed, date not available…
Bank Account number xxxxxxxxxx6901.

Everyone has their payment, not me! :rage:

I can agree with that. But the objection is that these states are (in part) going bankrupt because they’re paying benefits to the illegal immigrants. In short (and I know, not entirely accurate) - we’re not going to help you pay for your high welfare benefit costs, when your welfare benefit costs are so high because you’re paying for illegals along with NYS residents.

Most immigrations issues do not belong in virus relief efforts. But that one is, at minimum, relevant.

Right they should do it the proper Kentucky way.

Kentucky residents piss away MY tax dollars with good old not honest not hard working Americans going on SSI diability :

I’m with you, glitch99. But please be reminded my post focused on illegal CRIMINALS. I certainly never referenced farm workers . . . not even close. And I also left out illegals who obey our laws.

But when the blue state crazies adopt sanctuary policies which purposefully protect law breakers, here illegally, from deportation . . . well . . . that is where I draw the line.

And it is a VERY sharp line. I will be happy to sit by while those states go bankrupt . . . . as result of their unvarnished stupidity.

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/cuomo-reminds-mcconnell-new-york-pays-more-kentucky-state-bailout

" During his daily press conference, Cuomo pointed out that not only does New York chip in more money than Kentucky, the Empire State also takes less from the federal coffers than it contributes – unlike Kentucky.

“Senator McConnell, who’s getting bailed out here?” Cuomo asked.

“It’s your state that is living on the money that we generate,” he continued. “Your state is getting bailed out. Not my state.”"

Yes, let’s not let facts get in the way of nonsense. This isn’t about paying for the pandemic, it’s about the inequity that Blue states (proxy for “states with more cities and, by extension, more education”) aren’t already subsidizing the loser “Red” states enough.

Illegal immigrants (and regular immigrants) commit fewer crimes on a percentage basis than American born citizens. If you are truly against crime, then you would support American citizens being deported and replaced with illegal immigrants.

Now you’re shilling for Cu-mo? Good grief!!

So what! What is it about the word “illegal” you do not understand? We are a nation of laws . . . or we are supposed to be. The illegals need to be deported. Period

Our home-grown criminals need to be tried in our courts and incarcerated if found guilty.

The entire concept of open borders is straight up NUTS!!

The coronavirus task force press conference should be underway shortly . . . . . late as usual.

Karl is in the front row. He’ll probably give POTUS a hard time . . . also as usual.

“Facts” == “shilling”

Baseless nonsense not grounded in reality (that illegal alien benefits are what’s causing state government budgetary shortfalls during with the pandemic) == “real discussion”

If it’s illegal aliens/immigrant benefits causing budget shortfalls during the pandemic, then provide actual evidence of such. Oh, right…

Holy crap. The President of the United States just suggested injecting disinfectants into the human body to fight COVID-19. He also said maybe we could use light and heat inside the body.

Christ, this guy is an idiot.
