Middle East appeasement policies, working about as expected
Historians will survey this inexplicable record and wonder how the United States not only allowed Iran to repeatedly assault its citizens, soldiers, and allies but consistently rewarded it for doing so. They may well conclude that in a desperate effort to avoid getting dragged into a regional Middle Eastern war, the U.S. might well have precipitated one.
The U.S. and Israel have both detected suspicious nuclear activities by Iranian scientists in recent months. Officials fear they could be part of a covert Iranian effort to use the period around the U.S. presidential election to make progress toward nuclear weaponization
A different leader might have slapped them with enough sanctions that they couldnât afford to fund all the terrorism in Gaza and Lebanon, sending drones to Russia/Ukraine, etc. Of course Iran was also trying to assassinate one possible such leader just recentlyâŚ
Your life must be very stressful if you think thatâs the most likely reason. I could think of much better conspiracies, now that presumably at least a few US citizens are stranded in Russia.
Thereâs nothing realistic about it. If it was a bomb, theyâd have likely directed it to some abandoned or military field in the middle of nowhere, not a commercial airport in a major city. Also doesnât TSA scan all in-bound passengers and cargo at the point of departure? Too many things would have had to go wrong for this to be a realistic scenario.
Biden Promised Peace, but Will Leave His Successor a Nation Entangled in War
Speaking from the Oval Office last month as he explained his decision not to seek re-election, President Biden boasted about his accomplishments. One of them, he suggested, was presiding over an era of peace.
âIâm the first president in this century to report to the American people that the United States is not at war anywhere in the world,â Mr. Biden declared to the nation.
But while America is no longer waging a large-scale ground war like those in Iraq and Afghanistan, for much of his tenure Mr. Biden has seemed like a wartime leader.
Since pulling the last American troops out of Afghanistan three years ago, Mr. Biden has spent much of his presidency mobilizing public opinion and military might against Russiaâs invasion of Ukraine and playing a deeply engaged role in supporting Israel in its war in Gaza, and against Iran and the groups it backs.
âWar will be a key part of Bidenâs legacy,â said Stephen Wertheim, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. âWhatâs hard to wrap oneâs head around is that, although the United States is not directly involved in the wars in Ukraine or Gaza, the risks of large-scale conflict have become higher over the course of Bidenâs presidency.â
Iran is âdramaticallyâ accelerating its enrichment of uranium to up to 60% purity, close to the roughly 90% level that is weapons grade, U.N. nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi told Reuters on Friday.
given Tehranâs stockpiles of enriched uranium, it is capable of making âmore than a dozenâ nuclear weapons if its uranium is enriched further.
Iranâs acceleration at Fordow was âa dangerous and reckless escalation that risks derailing the prospects for negotiations with the United States.â âIncreasing the capacity to move more quickly to multiple bombsâ worth of weapons-grade uranium increases the risk of miscalculation and military action,â she said
Will it? On the one hand itâs a paper loss for Iran and Russia, on the other itâs a win for radical Islamists who might turn Syria into another Afghanistan, which is a loss for everyone. I admit I donât know much about this conflict, so Iâm secretly hoping that the leaders of all the rebel groups have been reeducated by Turkey and Israel and will not turn to Sharia or some shit like that, and instead establish a democratic government. LoL? Only that would be a big win for US and allies.
