The 2020 USA POTUS election politics, the civil war, and the world war (Part 1)

Your (and other’s) interpretations of what was said is not the same as him saying it.

I would like to see one statement - and actual quote, in context - from anyone at all that claims the Post Office will be literally throwing mail in the trash (or setting it on fire, or otherwise destroying it). Because that’s the only way to prevent the delivery of mail - not delivering it.

Yeah, how ridiculously terrible that an operation that’s losing billions of dollars every quarter might dare consider not paying employees overtime to process/deliver late-arriving mail off-cycle, when it can be included in the next day’s cycle at no additional expense.

Question - do you receive e-statements from your bank, or use online payment options for your bills? If so, you are more responsible for “defunding” the Post Office then Trump…

Looks pretty bare of American flags from my view. :relaxed:

No, Sanders spoke on Day 1. Your picture is from a later night. Youtube day-by-day video of the full event makes it appear that they did in fact “forget” the flags for night one - the entire night. Days 2-4, the flags are clearly visible (same angles) from the start of the evening.

Characterize it as you wish, but you’re both right.

(Side note - I get the feeling they were props that were set up, and there was no color guard bringing them in.)

Well there clearly was not “No flag” to be seen at the convention. That seems to be demonstrably false.

That’s a different scenario than “no flag at the beginning/start of the convention”.

It does look like an oversight the first night. I wonder what the backstory is, I don’t like speculating. Could have been according to plan, maybe the flag initially wasn’t on the stage but somewhere else.

They could have been. Personally I don’t see a point if a physical flag being “required” on the stage throughout. Seems like a prop use (but an acceptable one, assuming they’re not oversized/mixed sizes/ disrespectfully thrown up). Looks like they had some pretty massive flags throughout parts of the first day as well, just on all the screens.

They did have the flag presented and national anthem and pledge each day.

Also 1st day ( I’m gonna just assume it was every day rather than digging up the other two):

Man of steel

Trump is out there today, right now, barnstorming in four different states. The guy has GRIT! He has cast aside all the asinine media criticism and even the death of his beloved brother, and he has gone back to the task at hand, running for his second term.

I admire a guy who does not quit and who works hard to achieve his goals. We can see how this guy became a billionaire. He earned it!

Biden, by contrast, remains within walking distance of Wilmington. He sidestepped the Sunday interviews which are traditionally granted on the weekend before the convention. And now is emerging Obama’s criticism of him. Biden does not have what it takes to be leader of the USA, not to mention the world.

But he does have what it takes to be elected leader of the USA - he’s not Trump. Sadly, that’s going to be a far bigger factor in voting this fall than it ever should be.

(I would’ve said “factor in voting this November”, but apparently it’s racist and oppressive to expect most people to vote on the designated election day in November)

Oh, God. It is now coming out that Biden was canoodling with wife, Jill, before they were married! Not a big deal, you think? Happens all the time?

True. But the problem is that Jill was married to another guy while it was happening! Hell, I didn’t even know Jill was on her second go-round.

So basically what we now know is that Biden stole another guy’s wife!! Holy crap. Sure didn’t realize that before!

I dont know Shin, that detail (in isolation) probably makes me more likely to vote for him. Generally speaking, expecting perfect behavior only gets you someone who really sucks. Everyone worth anything has some kind of skeleton in their closet (or something that can be spun into a skeleton).

And given Trump’s own pre-political “canoodling”… I really wish everyone would just let it go, and focus on something that actually matters.

It goes to character. Everyone concedes Trump has never been a choir boy, though since ascending to office he has been clean as far as we know. And while Trump prior was a womanizer, I’m unaware of him doing the nasty with other men’s wives.

Biden is different. Women are supposed to vote for him because, compared with Trump, he is a pure and clean angel. Granted: there have been other allegations against Biden in the woman abuse realm. The media has papered those over. But this thing with Jill is brand new. He will have to come clean on it at some point.

Trump out there taking on the demonic Democrats

Does anyone remember Bob Michael? I wish I didn’t. Michael was the prototypical Republican of old, beloved by Democrats and hailed as a great fellow by members of his own party. You see, Michael was at one time the Republican leader in the House. But he never became Speaker because he was a confirmed, hopeless, gutless loser.

Yes, Michael was beloved by all. And that is what meant the most to him. Not winning. Not defeating politically the Democrat horde and thereby saving the country. Instead losing politely and keeping a low profile meant everything to Michael. Press criticism? Michael avoided it assiduously at all costs, principle be damned; America be damned. Everything, to Michael, depended on him being well regarded.

So why even mention this prototypical Republican loser? Because so many of today’s Republicans are cast in his mold, that is why. They keep their heads down and are frightened to fight for what is right. They are losers . . . . like Bob Michael.

So what finally became of this turkey of a Republican leader? Well, first, he was around for a long time because Republicans so love losing. But eventually along came a Republican guy named Newt Gingrich who was a fighter and really cared about our country . . . more than himself.

And when Mr. Newt finally took over it was as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, not just as Republican leader. That’s the difference between a fighter, like Newt, and a hopeless loser like Bob Michael.

But sadly today too many Republicans have fallen back into their old habits. They are more than content to let President Trump take all of the criticism and do all the work of opposing evil, while they kick back, remain out of the line of fire, and preen.

If you’re thinking Portland style governance is a good idea, maybe you need a peaceful kick to head. The local protestors are happy to administer one.

This is horrendous to watch. Made me sick to my stomach.

Doesn’t look like we have the whole story. The farthest the video goes back there was already some conflict between the male driver and his female passenger and the protesters.

Does it matter for justice? No – those responsible for harm should be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law.

Does it matter for public opinion? I think so – this story is spun as if all protesters are dangerous killers and knocked this guy out for no good reason. I suspect they had a reason. If the victim used the N word on them, for example, while sitting in his car trying to get by, I couldn’t really blame them too much.

I really don’t understand that mindset. How can words, even rude ones, justify deadly force against a person sitting passively on the ground?

Those in that video are cruel maniacs. Anyone who tries to make excuses for their actions belongs with them. At least one of our loyal Dems here like to make excuses for their actions. Maybe this or that is causing their behavior.
They’re Not really bad!!!

I think that driver should have just plowed right through those peaceful protesters. Kill a few of them.

No one tonight at the convention will say anything badly about these cruel monsters.

It’s just great behavior!!!

I think it takes a great level of self-control and mindfulness to ignore hurtful words. Not all humans possess these qualities. In the heat of the moment, justifications and rationalizations are made without regard for future consequences. I did not say it was JUST, I am not justifying their actions. By “couldn’t really blame them too much” I mean that I could understand them. I also said they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Trump says he’ll seek a third term:

“We are going to win four more years,” Trump said. “And then after that, we’ll go for another four years because they spied on my campaign. We should get a redo of four years.”

Trump has one problem: the Constitution. The 22nd Amendment says, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” However, Trump has never let the Constitution stand in his way.

Trump also said today: "“I was ‘Man of the Year’ eleven years ago in Michigan. I don’t know why but they picked me,” the president said. Trump doesn’t know why he was chosen for this honor because it’s a lie. According to a 2019 report in the Detroit News, the president has told the fabricated story at least six times—make that seven after today.

“Since 2016, Trump has claimed that he received Michigan’s ‘Man of the Year’ award, and no one in Michigan seems to know what he is talking about,” the report said.

Of course not, I was Michigan’s Man of the Year. Every year.

I disagree. There is something seriously depraved about a person who will do that to another human being, even impulsively. And this wasnt even in the heat of the moment; it was deliberate and intentional, not an impulsive reaction.

Go destroy the truck if you must, and deal with those consequences later. Dont leave the bystanders wondering if you broke the dude’s neck.

Really? On numerous occasions, Obama has faced crowds chanting “4 more years!” too. I’m glad to see that you agree the broad Democratic base is as stupid as you think Trump is…

It’s pretty common for both the elected and the electorate to pine for an additional term. Literally anyone else, and you wouldnt think twice about that comment.
