Trump is a vicious nasty brutal man and these statements fit into what he has said in the past and what he says currently.
He is opposed to freedom for Americans; he evaded the draft by pretending he had bone spurs; he commented that avoiding STDs in New York while dating models was his own “personal Vietnam”, he pardons war criminals while dumping on military heroes; he likes soldiers who aren’t captured, killed, or wounded. Do you see a pattern here?
What about 3 other draft dodging presidents? Clinton, Obama & Biden (trying to be)!!!

Leave it to NPR, the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. What they and you other liberal repeaters missed is that these boats were unsafe to begin with. They didn’t have enough life vests, no fire extinguisher, no paddle, no pea-less whistle, no navigation lights, and the icing on the cake - they were overloaded with illegal immigrants, some carrying half their body weight in cocaine. So these coyotes, getting rich off the backs of illegal immigrants got wet. Boo hoo!
I think Trump’s statement needs a re-write. “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot lots of people and I wouldn’t lose voters. I would actually gain Democrat voters, if I said I was peacefully protesting.”

A respected POTUS, whom I well remember, once said:
“Beware the military industrial complex”
That was Ike’s counsel back in 1961, as he was departing, and it remains wise thinking today. Wikipedia even has a page on this:

I stand with Dwight David Eisenhower, and with Trump, on this one. But many in the military hierarchy, and in Congress, despise Trump because for them this really rocks their boat. And they will stop at nothing to take him out and restore the old order.
At the beginning of his administration Trump needed to replenish the military and repair the damage done during the Obama years. But Trump does not engage in new conflicts as readily as the military industrial complex would prefer. And in their world that is a no-no because it interferes with their gravy train.
One case in point:
At the end of President Obama’s term we were in a major contretemps with North Korea. Obama even warned Trump about the danger. And the military industrial complex was salivating. So what does Trump do? He nixed the entire conflict, costing military careers and billions of dollars in hoped-for sales of armaments. That is not how things are supposed to be done.

While I’m with Trump on not wanting to start more stupid wars like we did before, it’s really quite a stretch to say we’re much better on North Korea than we were 4 years ago.
Trump got very little from Kim Jong-un overall. NK supposedly paused their ballistic and nuclear enrichment programs for about a year. In 2018, after the Singapore agreement, NK was supposed to denuclearize. But in May 2019, they resumed testing of ballistic missiles. And in May 2020, due to stalled talks, the Workers Party assembly resolved to “further bolster national nuclear war deterrent.” That was later made public in June 2020. So in my view, we’re more or less exactly where we were 4 years ago, possibly worse if they’re actually further along in their nuclear ballistic programs.

"A Trump staffer has come under fire for mocking Joe Biden after the former vice president visited the grave of late family members in Delaware on Sunday.
Francis Brennan, Mr Trump’s campaign director of strategic response, appeared to criticise Mr Biden, 77, for not speaking to the media while walking through the cemetry at Brandywine church in Wilmington, where his late son Beau, first wife Neilia, and daughter Naomi are buried.
Posting a message to Twitter on Sunday evening, Mr Brennan sarcastically wrote: “REPORTER: ‘Mr. Vice President come talk to us.’ Joe Biden just keeps meandering along,” next to a video of Mr Biden walking through the graveyard, in which the Democratic presidential candidate can be seen waving to waiting camera crews.
Beau Biden, an Iraq veteran, and former Delaware attorney general, died from brain cancer in 2015 aged 46. Neilia and Naomi Biden were killed in a car accident 1972."

Some Korea analysts believe the North is making a calculated effort to refrain from provoking the United States during the campaign, even as Pyongyang takes aim at South Korea, blowing up a joint liaison office in Kaesong in mid-June.
“They want Trump to be able to keep saying he has basically fixed the North Korea situation …glossing over the notion that they’re still building up weapons, and they’re still shooting off short-range missiles,” said Thornton, who spent 28 years at the State Department.
Trump has squandered the opportunity by giving Kim the international legitimacy he craves and by halting major joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea that Kim views as a threat.
Because, among other things, Trump us threatening to pull US troops out of South Korea and is allowing North Korea to develop weapons and missiles, “The North Koreans would much rather see Trump than Biden, Trump is the perfect mark: loves the show, doesn’t care about substance and hates the alliance — the polar opposite of Biden.”
