Isnt the whole point of using an intermediary to avoid creating a record of direct contact?
The entire Biden response seems to nitpick at certain technical details, while dancing around the broader implications.

I’m pretty sure it’s the state governors’ handling of nursing homes during the pandemic that has been most costly to older voters…
But what’s it called when a private business interferes with the government?
Another false and misleading headline. Read the quote. He’s clearly stating that there are no legislative bodies angling to “get back to the good old days of segregation”, that virtually everyone in any official capacity fully respects the precedent of that court decision. He used the phrase as the words of this hypothetical movement that he and Barret (and I think most everyone else) then agreed doesnt exist.
Nope, see earlier in this thread where shinobi complained about not respecting precedence from before 1974. It’s not settled with Trump’s “base”
Regardless, the phrase coming from Lindsey was unfortunate, and it’s not a joking matter like he treats it.
When it produces ridiculous headlines like that, what else can you do but laugh?
Nah, it’s a brilliant strategy. Some old people would have voted for Trump, but now with the virus, the dead ones will be voting Democrat every year hence.
“But what’s it called when a private business interferes with the government?”
Free speech. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC Mitch McConnell was a big fan of that ruling, arguing that it represented “an important step in the direction of restoring the First Amendment rights”
People are welcome to post the fake NY Post story on any privately owned website that will let them, such as facebook /twitter alternatives Gab and Parler.
/just more Republican crying and whining. I thought you guys were manly men who pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and stuff?
Not meaning to nit pick you or say you’re wrong. Sure the governors could and should have done a better job.
But let me tell you from the standpoint of an older person, this virus is very threatening to us. And that is true regardless what government officials do.
Here where I live we have a county “home” for older citizens of our county who cannot make it on their own. I’m very supportive of our county home and happy to pay for it with my taxes. And all through the earlier months of the pandemic our county home did a wonderful job taking care of the older less fortunate people who live there. This was most gratifying.
Fast forward to only the last few weeks and not before. Suddenly we are losing older residents of our county home at an alarming rate. Staff is also coming down with the virus. It is distressing for me to learn of this. The people running that operation knew what they were doing and they were successful for a long time. But this is the virus from hell, it found a way in, and now people are dying.
So while I’m certain the governors could have been more careful and done a better job, sometimes you just have to acknowledge that we are facing a very tough and determined enemy. It’s always easy to second guess and criticize the efforts of others, and this political season makes that even more fun. But the real enemy is this implacable virus itself.
If only Republicans had worn masks, and not whined and cried about it and protested it and tried to kidnap state governors over it.
But then where do the TV networks fall? Because they’re using public airwaves, explicitly sanctioned by the government, despite also being private business.
FYI - summarily dismissing anyone with opposing perspective as “crying and whining” only validates and reinforces those opposing perspectives. You should’ve just stopped with what was a rather reasonable and straightforward response before stooping to making random personal insults.
Right. There’s always the risk of it happening to you. And if it does, it really sucks for you. But the rate of it happening is what was the larger problem, and that was a consequence of actions taken at the time.
I see you take it personally when I said Republicans whine and cry. I must have hit a nerve in you?
Republicans are reaping what they sowed. Republicans have been the ones big on “let businesses do whatever they want and serve/refuse to serve whomever they want”. Like wedding cakes for example, wedding cakes are a big one with Republicans.
Only now a business has made a decision Republicans don’t like, and what happened? They took it like a big boy? Nope.
Those “public airwaves”, those were sold to the highest bidder in an exercise of free enterprise. Don’t like what is posted on them, then outbid them and buy the frequency. That’s called free enterprise. Free enterprise is supposed to be a core Republican principle. Then, since the business bought it fair and square, they can post/not post whatever they want, because free speech.
It’s Republican core principles, they don’t get to whine when it doesn’t go their way.
I summarily dismiss people who think that the core principles they espouse don’t apply to them. That’s called hypocrisy, and I am not a fan of hypocrites, you shouldn’t be either.
Take Lindsey Graham for example, here he is on Fox news whining about how his opponent is outraising him and how he NEEDS MONEY.

Newsflash Lindsey, money is speech, you and your cohorts fought for that. . Now that it’s coming back to bite you… too bad, so sad.
Voted last week too. Much better than showing in person. Ballot got to county board of elections and validated already.
The good thing about voting early is you don’t care quite as much about all the noise of the remaining campaign. The other good thing is lack of lines and not rubbing shoulder with people refusing to wear masks. ![]()
Weird thing in my state where absentee ballots get counted as they are received by the county Board of elections, is that they won’t know the tally of the early votes until 7:30pm on Nov 3rd, but then all those early votes will get instantly tallied and reported. From registered Dems/GOP it seems like the early votes are about 65/35 split so on election night, county will likely appear very blue initially, then turn purple as more GOP voter in-person ballot get counted. And then if close, everyone will have to wait up to 10 days to count the last absentee ballots postmarked by the deadline. If it does not produce weird results, I’d be surprised. ![]()
Allow me to explain what I am doing by quoting Trump voters:
I’m purposely giving Trump supporters a taste of their medicine. Clearly they don’t like it.
Speaking of campaign, how did the idea of dueling town halls become a thing?
These end up being basically regular campaign events. But broadcast at the same time so you cannot watch both at the same time very easily. Seems like a useless setup to me.
The people dying are not the ones responsible though, especially the ones with limited means of changing the trajectory of the pandemic like those in nursing homes. So you have to feel for them no matter what their political beliefs are.
I have older relatives in their 80-90s and their TVs do not have another channel than Fox I swear lol and they were pretty confused early on as to whether this was serious or not. They basically thought it’d be a spring flu season and then it’d go away in summer. By now though, they’re fully on board with masks and distancing (well except one of them who’s 97 and no longer gives a damn).
I didnt take it personally. It’s called attacking the person, verses attacking the argument. It’ll never convince anyone of anything. It’s what bullies do, and it only “wins” when those being attacked just get sick of it and walk away.
