The 2020 USA POTUS election politics, the civil war, and the world war (Part 1)

Those are funny. But outside the joke, his campaign calling a state is no different than a news network calling a state. Sure, lets all try to lock him up again because he’s being confident. It’s not like he’s influencing any voting (unless it prompts someone to uneccessarily “find” more Biden votes, thinking he needs them).

The BS over recounts and lawsuits is going to get tiring really fast. Even if there was something fraudulant that was done, does anyone think a lawsuit is going to manage to uncover it? Count the votes and move on, already.

PA looking good. If they stay up late, Biden maybe pull ahead in a couple hours.

GA going down to the wire… Dunno accurate number of outstanding ballots.

Biden looking on-track for a pretty historically significant win and referendum on Trump. Will be only the fourth time a candidate has defeated an incumbent president running for re-election, and he’s also on track for the most votes ever received for a presidential candidate.

As stated by others, a straight popular vote will make your vote count the same as everyone else’s.

"Thre’s nothing more unfair than letting select major metropolitan areas dictate the national elections.

I know, this is what you like - everyone gets a voice, but your voice only matters if it happens to agree with a couple democratic strongholds."

Let’s imagine for a moment that the population of the US consists of one single city, population 350 million or so, and one guy who happens to live in the next county.

Should that one guy have the same say in how the country is run as the 350 million in the city? The answer would pretty clearly be no, his voice shouldn’t count the same as 350 million other people.

Currently, those people living outside the city have voted that count for far more than the vote of someone living in the city. That is inherently unfair, since all are created equal according to the constitution.

I remember there was a time when owning slaves was Constitutional. Then suddenly, it wasn’t. Something we are clearly better for.

The whole “originalism” idea is bunk according to Thomas Jefferson anyway, in fact his thoughts on the matter are carved into stone on his monument.

“I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as a civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.”

There’s also the rest of that. Extract from Thomas Jefferson to “Henry Thompkinson” (Samuel Kercheval), 12 July 1816 [Quote] | Jefferson Quotes & Family Letters

“Some men look at Constitutions with sanctimonious reverence, & deem them, like the ark of the covenant, too sacred to be touched. they ascribe to the men of the preceding age a wisdom more than human, and suppose what they did to be beyond amendment. I knew that age well: I belonged to it, and labored with it. it deserved well of it’s country. it was very like the present, but without the experience of the present: and 40. years of experience in government is worth a century of book-reading”

TX’s probably going to have some even more comically crazily gerrymandered districts in the next election. Especially with ACB rubber-stamp on the supreme court.

Also, from looking closer at GA… not an expert of any sort but I’m going to call it and predict Trump wins by <10k votes after the other 100k votes are counted :(. Looks like the other senate seat is at least also headed to a runoff… Alternately, Biden could end up 10k up.
It makes sense, but the processed ballots actually get “blue-er” to the end. That’s because they’re processed in the individual areas and the cities have the most to go through.

What better representation that everyone’s vote counts equally? Thanks to the speed of modern life, that is now practical in a way that it wasn’t when the county seat was a day’s wagonride away. (Most counties were designated with that days wagonride to the election place in mind)

Obviously, "Libs’ " votes shouldn’t count at all. "Patriots’ "racists, bigots, terrorists, and imbeciles votes should count bigly.

with 107,751 votes outstanding at 8:30pm, trump was ahead by 39k
with 98,829 votes outstanding at 9:45pm, trump is ahead by 33k

Maybe Biden can pull of a GA win by over 20k… (just using that one increment as a really poor dataset of 2 for estimating.

Looks doubtful he pulls ahead before tomorrow though. And really it could go either way still in GA…

In PA, I predict a 200k vote Biden win, only from the votes that were in by yesterday… Anyone else have any guesses?

Trump has to be pretty close to having the most votes for a losing candidate, too. The fact we still dont have a winner may be a referendum on Trump, but not with Biden-friendly conclusions.

Biden going into this with the attitude that he has a mandate to do his thing, will only result in us being right back at this in 4 years. I do think he, moreso than any of the potential candidates we started wtih, may be the one who can compromise and let everyone (or a good chunk of both sides) feel like they’re participating.

Well, I’m from a county with the resources to be very wealthy, if not one of the wealthiest in the nation, with next to no taxes. And instead it’s a virtual slum with some of the highest taxes in the nation - because the state, dominated by big city politics, has taken over and syphoned off all those resources to the benefit the state (and both directly and indirectly, the big city). Like you, the city folk think it’s great being able to control the state vote and keep those resources flowing. The residents of that county, not so much. That’s what the electoral college helps prevent from happening on a national scale.

Sure, but who cares about the impeached loser.
Trump is the first to be impeached and then lose in a general election.

And should be the first to go to prison after leaving office…

Do you need any more ESPN “First X+Y+Z” ‘statistics’?

Meanwhile, the Russians are trying to tamper with our postal service. “Vote by mail security”

You said it was a referendum on Trump. And Trump got the third (potentially second?) highest vote total for any presidential candidate in history. You are right that it is a pretty clear message, but it isnt saying what you want it to say.

Insanity.

Way I see it, Trump does not need Nevada and Trump also will lose in Nevada, along with Michigan and Wisconsin. He will lose in all three of those states. In addition:

If Trump does not win in Georgia it is over.

If Trump does not win in North Carolina it is over.

If Trump does not win in Arizona it is over.

But if Trump can win in those three states, and also in Pennsylvania, he will retain his office until early in 2025.

ETA

Cheating analysis:

Georgia is run by Republicans, but Atlanta is run by Democrats. I do not anticipate cheating. If Trump loses it most likely will be because he simply does not have the votes.

Arizona is run by Republicans but Democrats control both Maricopa and Pima Counties. Nobody is anticipating cheating there. If Trump loses, he loses.

North Carolina is run by Democrats, but Republicans also are in the mix. I have heard no outcries there about cheating and I anticipate none.

Pennsylvania is the problem. There are already allegations of foul play, of cheating, in Philadelphia. The administration in Pennsylvania is Democrat. The people counting the votes in Philadelphia are wildly Democrat. There are not the two-party checks and balances you find in the other critical states. I dunno if Trump has the votes to win Pennsylvania, especially after Democrats slip in extra votes for Biden in the calculated absence of Republican oversight. This could easily land in the Supreme Court.

It’s even worse in Pennsylvania. Their Constitution says only the Pennsylvania Legislature can make laws regarding voting. But the Pennsylvania courts, controlled by Democrats, have usurped that legislative power by intervening. Later Federal courts did the same thing, overriding the Pennsylvania Constitution. This also could land in the Supreme Court, but not if Trump loses in any one of the other crucial states he must have. If he does, Pennsylvania will not matter.

Sounds like you should do a better job of convincing the city of the value of letting your area do what it wants. I suggest your area taking some of their resources and politically campaigning to convince the people living in the city of it.

If only there were something about all men being created equal. Maybe something about us being one nation, indivisible. Aint nobody gets everything they want, I can complain all I want about not being made god-king and given a golden throne and having you as my personal slave, but that isnt going to happen because people aren’t going to vote for it.

See my example above.

It’s true a lot of minority rights were included in the US founding documents, to protect against abuse by the majority of voters. I think the issues now with the electoral college would be a lot less significant if there wasn’t a large and potentially increasing income tax, something that serves to redistribute wealth between states and was not allowed under the original constitution.

“I think the issues now with the electoral college would be a lot less significant if there wasn’t a large and potentially increasing income tax, something that serves to redistribute wealth between states and was not allowed under the original constitution.”

Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the United States Constitution (the “Taxing and Spending Clause”), specifies Congress’s power to impose “Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises,”

Also, I don’t think you want to go there in any case, since the big beneficiary states (aka the welfare queens) are almost all Republican, and the big donor states are almost all Democrat. I’ve color coded this by who they voted for this election (Arizona I marked as blue since it was called for Democrats by Fox News)

If we made it so there wasn’t wealth redistribution and each state got as much out as it gave it, red states would be deeply screwed.

The big city stealing from the rural areas idea of glitch? Tax data shows that’s wrong. The big population centers are supporting rural states.

I want minority rights protected regardless of which party currently benefits. As for taxes, I was referring to income taxes specifically and that needed a constitutional amendment to pass muster.
