Fulton GA shenanigans, or how to vote twice and get away with it. Once by mail, once in person, and either don’t mention that at the poll, drop the mail ballot off after voting, or most likely, have a partisan or incompetent poll worker who doesn’t care.

More than 1,700 Georgians were singled out for illegally casting two ballots in 2020 elections — including last month’s hotly contested presidential race – but their fraudulent votes weren’t canceled out, according to state election officials. And so far, none of the cheaters has been prosecuted, raising concerns about continued fraud as Georgia prepares to vote again in twin U.S. Senate runoff elections next month.

The majority of double voters were Democrats who cast an absentee ballot either by mail or drop box and also voted in person on Election Day, officials said, which is a felony under state law. The highest share of offenders were from Fulton County, which includes Atlanta – many of whom were allowed to cast a second ballot by poll workers, officials said.

Voyles, who has been helping manage polls in Fulton County for 20 years, complained that Democratic county officials entrusted the ACLU of Georgia with training election workers in how to screen out voters trying to cast two ballots. She noted that the ACLU chapter is a political activist group that appears more interested in defending people who vote twice than stopping them and reporting them to authorities.

Will they try again this time? Who knows?

Fraud, cheating. Only way for democrats to win. They did it early Nov, how about Jan 5th?

Since real republicans plan to boycott the senatorial elections in GA, that won’t be an issue, will it?

I am shocked and surprised. Who could possibly have seen this coming!

Again, unvarnished shock. Nobody had a clue there were dishonest people in Atlanta! We thought they were all in Philadelphia and Detroit.

And all this time the ACLU has been portrayed as fair, honest, and right down the political middle. Nobody could have guessed they leaned left. I mean, who knew . . . . . except for everybody with an intact brain!

Time was they were an institution with principles, even many principles I supported, and might well have been one I financially supported at this stage in my life if they had remained true to the “L” in their name. But like many once worthwhile institutions, they have been co-opted for left wing and often extremist political ends, not unlike the NYT, much of the TV news media, the Southern Poverty Hate Mongers, and, TBD on their “unity” messaging, the Democratic Party and the incoming administration.

WRONG!!

Republicans are in the trenches, helping our two GA Reps win. Will happen if no double Dem votes.

What’s the source for the numbers and exact vote count for double voters? Majority of them being Dems could be statistical considering the majority of votes in the state went for Biden. Even then, the difference in count of double voters could not have been much more than 10% of Biden’s lead in the state so it would not have mattered in the big picture.

Still I’m not sure why these are not prosecuted by authorities. There could be honest mistakes among those, especially older folks who may not have remembered they sent back their ballots via mail. But that’s still not acceptable. These voters who deliberately double-voted should be prosecuted fully and banned from further participation for a while.

By the way, were these double-voters excluded from results? In my State, you can vote a provisional ballot if you requested a ballot and either have not sent it or it’s not been received yet by election day. In this case, your provisional ballot only gets counted after the 10-day delay for mailed in ballots to arrive and get counted. If you voted by mail, and cast a provisional ballot, both of them are invalid and you can get prosecuted. So poll worker cannot decide that you’re voting illegally a second time so they’ll take your provisional ballot but it doesn’t mean that your (potentially second) vote will be counted. I’m not sure how it is in GA obviously but many states have safeguards to prevent fraud like that rather easily.

I don’t know any more than they cited in the article, but it sounded like many of the identified double votes were from elections earlier this year in GA, like primaries. I agree many states have some system where if you vote in person that overrides any mail in vote, but it sounds like GA doesn’t (even if they can go back and identify cases of this).

Speaking of questionable pardons, NY Gov Cuomo couldn’t find any compassion for Americans but did find a dozen illegal aliens facing deportation as the only ones worthy of his pardon.

And on the topic of immigration issues, we’ve got plenty of jobs, plenty of welfare/aid money, and not enough covid here in the US, right? Well Biden’s got a fix for that - he’s ready to admit over 100k refugees, over 8x the quota under Trump.

Refugees aren’t really the same thing as normal immigration. USA has historically had much higher caps. USA has also been a severe failure in the past, too, though, like turning away ships of Jewish refugees that then ended up in Hitler’s concentration camps and ovens. There have definitely been times in the past with xenaphobic policy. The 15,000 is significantly out of line with policy since 1980.

One might alternately word the statement as "Biden wants to restore the heartlessly low caps to more historically normal levels. " 125k is above the median, but the past few years have been near zero, so people who don’t agree with current policy would argue it takes a higher number just to offset valid refugees that were denied the last couple years.

sure, but that’s a policy decision. We had historically much higher jobs/employment and much lower debt/deficits than now too.

Valid point, however it may be a stretch to try to make a case that 100k/yr refugee immigrants will have any non-negligible effect (and a separate question of whether it’s negative or positive) on overall employment/ economy in a nation of >300M.

And even if we assume there actually is a measurable net cost, the humanity question remains.

On the lighter side, Dave Barry still writes well. A few excerpts below, but rest assured he’s pretty even-handed.

… the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg triggers a classic display of Washington-style ethical consistency as both political parties, addressing the issue of when the vacancy should be filled, passionately embrace positions diametrically opposite the ones they passionately embraced in 2016

On the diplomatic front, the Trump administration announces that, after tense high-level negotiations, it has reached a peace agreement under which U.S. troops will be withdrawn from Portland, Ore., where for many weeks protesters have been seeking social justice via a combination of peaceful demonstrations and arson.

the media elite greatly underestimated support for Trump, who somehow got more than 74 million votes despite the fact that the media elite doesn’t personally know any Trump supporters, and in fact has devoted four solid years to declaring that anybody who doesn’t hate Trump as much as the media elite does has to be a racist idiot. So who on Earth could these 74 million Americans be? It’s a mystery that probably will never be solved, at least not by the media elite.

Moved to correct thread:

He was nominated back in September by Magnus Jacobsson, a member of the Swedish Parliament, as a result of his unprecedented success in bringing together Israel and her Arab enemies.

This success has now been eradicated with the election of Biden, whose pro-Iran foreign policy will destroy all of Trump’s remarkable mid-east accomplishments. Iran’s coming nukes threaten both Israel and Sunni Muslims throughout the region as well. It does not matter to Biden, a jackass who champions appeasement. He is the Neville Chamberlain of mid-east policy.
