With the coronavirus running rampant, Democrats are wisely calling on Trump to curtail his popular campaign rallies. Trump is cavalierly placing people at risk, Democrats assert, just one more indication of his dumbass tendencies.
Their rules are different, though, for Bernie’s massive rallies, and for Biden’s rallies, too. Neither is a problem for Democrats. There is reason for this:
Bernie attracts very few adults, among which group the virus threat is heightened. The “kids for Bernie” crowd is not at great risk.
With Biden, the number of unpaid rally attendees is low to begin with. And Biden’s paid rally participants know and understand the chance they are taking, but run the risk anyway because they need the money.
This is pure fallacy. They may not face the same risk of death, but they’re equally at risk of catching and spreading the virus.
Maybe curtailing campaign rallies would be prudent, but it would be prudent across the board. About the only possible reason to justify these hypocritical standards is the fact that Sanders and Biden are in the middle of an immediate, ongoing vote; there’s no delaying anything, because the fight will be over. While Trump is campaigning for an election that doesnt enter the home stretch for another 6 months.
I realize that you’re not advocating this, but just accepting that someone may try to use it as excuse. The problem is, Sanders and Biden are campaigning against Trump as much as against each other. I’m confident that at every rally/campaign stop, they deride Trump for at least one thing. In fact, I would be surprised if they mention their Democrat opponent more than Trump.
“Trump was tested, but not until after he became POTUS. His cognition tested very high.”
Hahahahahhahahahaha, no. I’m sure that was in the same report that magically reported his weight at 239 pounds.
He’s sundowning, and has been for a very long time.
No, actually he had a perfect score on the test, which he himself requested in order to quiet his critics.
'Bout time
But looks like the race will be over in a few hours anyway, so what’s the difference?
Agreed. I think he is endeavouring to rally the troops for November. Also there is this seldom-reported aspect:
While he has no serious competition for the Republican nomination, Trump still has appeared on the Republican primary ballot in most of the states holding these elections. And people have come out and voted for Trump regardless there is no need. In fact, Trump has garnered more primary votes than all the Democrat candidates combined. People just want to show their support for him.
Another tidbit seldom reported: Roughly 30% of the participants at Trump rallies are Democrats.
Meanwhile, in Michigan, Biden told a voter there he (the voter) is full of shit. And he used the word “shit”, too. I’ve never heard Trump address a voter that way.
As shinobi mentioned, the Democrats are currently campaigning against Trump as much as against each other. So it could be argued that the Presidential campaigning has already started, despite the primaries not being over.
There’s so much context missing, to be able to give this any meaning. It could look really bad, it could also be a whole lot of meaningless nothing.
And you could also say you’ve never heard Trump do that simply because Trump rarely goes after anyone to their face. He does most of his mocking and berating off in the cool kids corner once the target is no longer around. (And I don’t have any problem with Trump or what he’s been doing, I just wish he’d learn to shut up)
Yeah, no. It was reported he had a perfect test. It was also reported that he weighs 239 and is the healthiest healthy person that ever healthed…
Trump/Biden/Sanders, none of the three remaining candidates are in good health.
It can be spun however you want. All three are in really good health…for near-80 year olds. But that changes significantly when compared to 40-60 year olds. I dont see how any of them could be given a “low risk” grade for remaining as-is for the next 4 or 8 years.
I dont believe any President has died simply of old age while in office. Apparently, challenge accepted.
Well it’s all over TV. All three of the major networks showed the incident. So you can see the entire thing for yourself, if you wish. There is no cover up.
I admire your perseverance. I gave up on that hope ~2017 … at least on the stuff that I want him to shut up about. ![]()
Mike DeWine is the Republican Governor of Ohio. Governor DeWine this week requested both Biden and Bernie cancel their Ohio rallies because of COVID-19. The candidates complied readily. Here we have a Republican governor cancelling two Democrat rallies. I see this as significant as we move forward toward November.
Let’s have a look at the three swing state governors, and I’ll also throw in NC as a possible swing state:
WI - Democrat
MI - Democrat (also a woman)
PA - Democrat
NC - Democrat
Rallies for Trump are his stock in trade. Period. They are how he defeated Hillary four years ago. When you think of Trump campaigning, you think of his wildly popular and heavily attended rallies.
Now we have the precedent of Democrat candidates deferring to the rally cancellation request of a Republican governor. But turnabout is fair play. While I do not challenge the legitimacy or authenticity of Governor DeWine’s request, who can say where this will go in future, when the shoe is on the other foot? And with the two most prominent Democrats having honored a Republican Governor’s request, how does Trump defy those four Democrat Governors should THEY make similar rally cancellation requests?
So when do we start to speculate that all campaigning will be cancelled and the election postponed? And more significantly, will it be an idea that gets floated merely as an attempt to make it seem like something Trump is considering?
Heck, why not. They are cancelling everything else, virtually without exception!
As for voting, my votes this year will be mailed in. But rest assured, I will vote.
or that Trump started the whole Covid-19 thing to postpone the election and title him as President for Life? ![]()
Putin used the current “instability” as an excuse to reset his presidential term counts to 0. He was gonna do it one way or another, but he referenced the “instability” in his speech.
I read a report (sorry, not gonna look up the link) that seemed to be from a reputable source about Sanders’ life expectancy. The author thought he had about a 50% chance of living through a four year term. Apparently, having your first heart attack later in life drops your life expectancy significantly. Compare to Chaney who had several heart conditions but started having issues much earlier in life.
Yes, I know the above could be pure drivel (A great book by Steve Martin, BTW). I just found it interesting / thought provoking.
